Hellings And Downs Correlation Of An Arbitrary Set Of Pulsars, Bruce Allen, Joseph D. Romano Aug 2023

Hellings And Downs Correlation Of An Arbitrary Set Of Pulsars, Bruce Allen, Joseph D. Romano

Physics & Astronomy Faculty Publications

Pulsar timing arrays (PTAs) detect gravitational waves (GWs) via the correlations they induce in the arrival times of pulses from different pulsars. We assume that the GWs are described by a Gaussian ensemble, which models the confusion noise produced by expected PTA sources. The mean correlation h2μu(γ) as a function of the angle γ between the directions to two pulsars was predicted by Hellings and Downs in 1983. The variance σ2tot(γ) in this correlation was recently calculated [B. Allen, Variance of the Hellings-Downs correlation, Phys. Rev. D 107, 043018 (2023)] for a single noise-free pulsar pair at angle γ, …

Structured Illumination Microscope Image Reconstruction Using Unrolled Physics-Informed Generative Adversarial Network (Upigan), Seyedeh Parisa Dajkhosh

Electronic Theses and Dissertations Archive

In three-dimensional structured illumination microscopy (3D-SIM) where the images are taken from the object through the point spread function (PSF) of the imaging system, data acquisition can result in images taken under undesirable aberrations that contribute to a model mismatch. The inverse imaging problem in 3D-SIM has been solved using a variety of conventional model-based techniques that can be computationally intensive. Deep learning (DL) approaches, as opposed to traditional restoration methods, tackle the issue without access to the analytical model. This research aims to provide an unrolled physics-informed generative adversarial network (UPIGAN) for the reconstruction of 3D-SIM images utilizing data …

Introduction: Like heart rate, blood pressure (BP) is not steady but varies over intervals as long as months to as short as consecutive cardiac cycles. This blood pressure variability (BPV) consists of regularly occurring oscillations as well as less well-organized changes and typically is computed as the standard deviation of multiple clinic visit-to-visit (VVV-BP) measures or from 24-h ambulatory BP recordings (ABPV). BP also varies on a beat-to-beat basis, quantified by methods that parse variation into discrete bins, e.g., low frequency (0.04–0.15 Hz, LF). However, beat-to-beat BPV requires continuous recordings that are not easily acquired. As a result, we …
