Tailored-Llama: Optimizing Few-Shot Learning In Pruned Llama Models With Task-Specific Prompts, Danyal Aftab, Steven Davy Jan 2024

Tailored-Llama: Optimizing Few-Shot Learning In Pruned Llama Models With Task-Specific Prompts, Danyal Aftab, Steven Davy

Conference Papers

Large language models demonstrate impressive proficiency in language understanding and generation. Nonetheless, training these models from scratch, even the least complex billion-parameter variant demands significant computational resources rendering it economically impractical for many organizations. With large language models functioning as general-purpose task solvers, this paper investigates their task-specific fine-tuning. We employ task-specific datasets and prompts to fine-tune two pruned LLaMA models having 5 billion and 4 billion parameters. This process utilizes the pre-trained weights and focuses on a subset of weights using the LoRA method. One challenge in fine-tuning the LLaMA model is crafting a precise prompt tailored to the …

A Comparison Of Machine Learning Surrogate Models Of Street-Scale Flooding In Norfolk, Virginia, Diana Mcspadden, Steven Goldenberg, Binata Roy, Malachi Schram, Jonathan L. Goodall, Heather Richter

Community & Environmental Health Faculty Publications

Low-lying coastal cities, exemplified by Norfolk, Virginia, face the challenge of street flooding caused by rainfall and tides, which strain transportation and sewer systems and can lead to personal and property damage. While high-fidelity, physics-based simulations provide accurate predictions of urban pluvial flooding, their computational complexity renders them unsuitable for real-time applications. Using data from Norfolk rainfall events between 2016 and 2018, this study compares the performance of a previous surrogate model based on a random forest algorithm with two deep learning models: Long Short-Term Memory (LSTM) and Gated Recurrent Unit (GRU). The comparison of deep learning to the random …

A 3d Dlt View Correction Tool For Manual Digitizing: A Cross-Platform Application For Correcting Shifted Image Coordinates Prior To Object Coordinate Reconstruction, William Moynihan Jan 2024

A 3d Dlt View Correction Tool For Manual Digitizing: A Cross-Platform Application For Correcting Shifted Image Coordinates Prior To Object Coordinate Reconstruction, William Moynihan

Theses, Dissertations and Capstones

While 3D direct linear transformation is a versatile motion capture method, care must be taken so that the cameras are not bumped or adjusted between the object space calibration phase and the end of video recording. Disturbing the cameras during this time will misalign the view, making the movement data invalid for the associated calibration. The purpose of this study was to design and validate a cross-platform software application for transforming image coordinates from a bumped camera to be compatible with the object space calibration and to determine the relationship between reconstruction error and changes to bumped camera views.

Parodies Of Pleasure: Remedios Varo's Queer Surrealism In Narrative And Painting, Kathryn Everly Jan 2024

Parodies Of Pleasure: Remedios Varo's Queer Surrealism In Narrative And Painting, Kathryn Everly

Languages, Literatures, and Linguistics - All Scholarship

Remedios Varo (1908-1963) wrote numerous surrealist texts that dialogue with her prolific artistic production. Alchemy, feminism, and psychoanalysis have been studied as central themes in her paintings, yet this paper focuses on humor and parody in Varo’s written works –including her letters, short stories, and dreams– to uncover the seminal ideas and images that emerge in her visual art. Humor and parody are fundamental links between Varo’s narrative and paintings. She embraces the spontaneity of the surrealist écriture automatique and the illogical amor fou but at the same time pushes the limits of surrealist dogma and creates a uniquely nonpatriarchal …

An Analysis Of Corporate Social Responsibility And Real Earnings Management, Rachel Brassine

Theses, Dissertations and Capstones

Real earnings management (REM) is costly in the form of intense loan restrictions, increased interest expense, and public scrutiny. Nevertheless, companies still practice REM. Based on agency and stakeholder theories, this research predicts that as a company’s CSR score increases, REM will decrease, and this association will become more negative when a critical mass of females on the board of directors exists and when a board-level CSR committee is present. This study also predicts that when a company offers an executive incentive plan based on CSR metrics, REM will decrease, and the relationship will become more negative with a critical …

On The Transmuted Distributions; Properties And Application, Jacob D. Kretzer Jan 2024

On The Transmuted Distributions; Properties And Application, Jacob D. Kretzer

Theses, Dissertations and Capstones

The transmuted distributions first appeared in (2007) after Shaw and Buckley constructed a quadratic rank transmutation map (QRTM), G(u) = (1 + λ)u − λu2, as a transformation of a cumulative distribution function of a random variable X, to generate the transmuted-X distribution. In (2017), Jayakumar & Babu defined the T -transmuted-X family of distributions by incorporating a transmuted-X into a transformer-transformed class of distributions (Aljarrah et al., 2014). This thesis surveys the main properties of the transmuted-X distribution, such as density shapes, moments, and entropy. Detailed attention will be given …

Object-Centric Spatially-Aware Gesture-Based Motion Specification Of Robotic Manipulation Systems, Rehan Nazir

Mechanical Engineering Master's Theses

As collaborative robots (cobots for short) become more prominent in industrial settings, intuitive ways of interaction between humans and cobots are essential for their success. In this Thesis, a novel framework that enables a human to easily guide a cobot to co-manipulate an extended object is presented. The developed framework enables a human to guide the object grasped by the cobot in all dimensions of motion (translation, rotation, and gripper actuation). To achieve this, a novel control has been developed that uses hand gestures and spatially-aware features of the operator (e.g. operator's location in space) with respect to the manipulated …
