Selecting A Measurement System: Using Measurement System Potential Approval Criteria, Karl D. Majeske
Selecting A Measurement System: Using Measurement System Potential Approval Criteria, Karl D. Majeske
International Review of Business and Economics
This paper presents the results of a manufacturer’s quest to identify a measuring strategy during process development. Standard Measurement Systems Analysis (MSA) criteria provide a common framework to evaluate a gauge’s ability to produce data that fairly represents the quality characteristics that describe a part’s fitness for use. Here, MSA criteria, as well as hypothesis tests of precision and bias, are used to compare to two alternative measurement systems. Ultimately, to compare the two systems, measures of MSA criteria are developed that reflect the potential the criteria could reach by eliminating operator-to-operator gauge error.

Educational reform priorities such as emphasis on quantitative modelling (QM) have positioned undergraduate biology instructors as designers of QM experiences to engage students in authentic science practices that support the development of datadriven and evidence-based reasoning. Yet, little is known about how biology instructors adapt to the pedagogical movement towards incorporating QM opportunities for students in the courses they teach. This study presents the development of the Quantitative Modelling Observation Protocol (QMOP), a classroom observation instrument designed to support the need to characterise various approaches that instructors use to implement QM instruction in undergraduate biology. QMOP provides information about the …

Energy And Angular Distributions In 250 Ev Electron And Positron Collisions With Argon Atom, K. Tőkési, Robert D. Dubois
Energy And Angular Distributions In 250 Ev Electron And Positron Collisions With Argon Atom, K. Tőkési, Robert D. Dubois
Physics Faculty Research & Creative Works
We present energy and angular differential cross sections for single ionization in collisions between electrons and positrons with argon atoms at 250 eV. We treat the collision classically using the three-body approximation where the target atoms are described within the single active electron approximation using a Garvey model potential and only the outermost electron is involved in the collision dynamics. Our present classical trajectory Monte Carlo model is shown to describe the ionization cross sections reasonably well and agree with existing experimental data. We show that the energy distributions, both for electron and positron impact, have the same shape and …

Pinpointing Dream Settings Onto Place Cookies
Pinpointing Dream Settings Onto Place Cookies
The International Journal of Ecopsychology (IJE)
Dream reports are short pieces of text, where a dreamer summarizes the remembered experience of nightly dreams. Dream cartography addresses especially the spatial information contained in dream reports. In this context, the current formalization of space in GIScience such as points, lines, polygons, or labels, including place names or addresses, is not sufficient for mapping dream settings. In the best case, dream reports mention place names or streets. However, usually, the perception of space in dreams is designated in terms of whether this is familiar or not, inside or outside, safe or threatening. Moreover, basic comparisons between dream settings are …
Place-Based Education: A Pedagogy Of Community
Place-Based Education: A Pedagogy Of Community
The International Journal of Ecopsychology (IJE)
Every place, no matter how seemingly mundane or described as ‘exotic,’ has a story—a human story involving culture (history, language, migration, etc.); a natural story involving land and water, plants and animals, and other natural phenomena; and a story that combines the two—humans in the natural space and their impact on that space. The degree to which we know the story of a place informs our connection to that place, be it positive, negative, or neutral. The incorporation of these stories—the cultural, historical, and ecological stories of a place—into school curricula is known as place-based education (PBE) and is the …

Implications Of Lithium-Ion Cell Temperature Estimation Methods For Intelligent Battery Management And Fast Charging Systems, Ehab Bayoumi
Mechanical Engineering
This article examines in depth the most recent thermal testing techniques for lithium-ion batteries (LIBs). Temperature estimation circuits can be divided into six divisions based on modeling and calculation methods, including electrochemical computational modeling, equivalent electric circuit modeling (EECM), machine learning (ML), digital analysis, direct impedance measurement, and magnetic nanoparticles as a base. Complexity, accuracy, and computational cost-based EECM circuits are feasible. The accuracy, usability, and adaptability of diagrams produced using ML have the potential to be very high. However, both cannot anticipate low-cost integrated BMS live due to their high computational costs. An appropriate solution might be a hybrid …

Rapid transit is one of Malaysia's most important transportation modes, where commuters use public transportation to travel. Any disruption in the rapid transit service affects their daily routines. Therefore, detecting such service disruption has become fundamental. In this study, the disruption in Malaysia's rapid transit service was assessed using English and Manglish (a combination of English and Malay) tweets through Latent Dirichlet Allocation (LDA). The gathered tweets were classified into event and non-event tweets and LDA was applied to the event tweets. Manglish event tweets were pre-processed using the proposed term standardisation technique. As a result, LDA has proved its …

Holographic optical elements (HOEs) have the potential to enable more compact, versatile, and lightweight optical designs, but many challenges remain. Volume HOEs have the advantage of high diffraction efficiency, but they present both chromatic selectivity and chromatic dispersion, which impact their use with wide spectrum light sources. Single-color light emitting diode (LED) sources have a narrow spectrum that reduces these issues and this makes them better suited for use with volume HOEs. However, the LED source size must be taken into consideration for compact volume HOE-LED systems. To investigate the design limits for compact HOE-LED systems, a theoretical and experimental …

Non-Hermiticity has emerged as a new paradigm for controlling coupled-mode systems in ways that cannot be achieved with conventional techniques. One aspect of this control that has received considerable attention recently is the encircling of exceptional points (EPs). To date, most work has focused on systems consisting of two modes that are tuned by two control parameters and have isolated EPs. While these systems exhibit exotic features related to EP encircling, it has been shown that richer behavior occurs in systems with more than two modes. Such systems can be tuned by more than two control parameters, and contain EPs …

SMARCB1 loss has long been observed in many solid tumors. However, there is a need to elucidate targetable pathways driving growth and metastasis in SMARCB1-deficient tumors. Here, we demonstrate that SMARCB1 deficiency, defined as genomic SMARCB1 copy number loss associated with reduced mRNA, drives disease progression in patients with bladder cancer by engaging STAT3. SMARCB1 loss increases the chromatin accessibility of the STAT3 locus in vitro. Orthotopically implanted SMARCB1 knockout (KO) cell lines exhibit increased tumor growth and metastasis. SMARCB1-deficient tumors show an increased IL6/JAK/STAT3 signaling axis in in vivo models and patients. Furthermore, a pSTAT3 selective inhibitor, TTI-101, reduces …

Quantum logic gates differ from classical logic gates as the former involves quantum operators. The conventional gates such as AND, OR, NOT etc., are generally classified as classical gates, however, some of the quantum gates are known as Pauli gates, Toffoli gates and Hadamard gates, respectively. Normally classical states only involve 0 and 1, whereas quantum states involve the superpositions of 0 and 1. Hence, underlying principles of algorithm implementation for classical logic gate and quantum logic gate are indeed different. In this paper, we introduce significant concepts of quantum computations, analyse the discrepancy between classical and quantum gates, compare …
