Design And Development Of Deep Eutectic Solvent Assisted Pressurized Liquid Extraction Of Nutraceuticals, Harish Babu B Feb 2024

Design And Development Of Deep Eutectic Solvent Assisted Pressurized Liquid Extraction Of Nutraceuticals, Harish Babu B

Theses and Dissertations

Over recent decades, the usage of nutraceuticals has been exponentially increasing as alternates to pharmaceutical drugs. However, extraction of these therapeutically significant compounds from their corresponding sources requires the use of volatile organic solvents like hexane, ethanol and chloroform which increases the global warming potential. This problem has been overcome in recent decades by the use of supercritical carbon dioxide (SCO2) as the extraction solvent. Since SCO2 is non-polar in nature, the extraction of polar compounds with better efficiency is questionable.

On the other hand, modernization in solvent engineering has created generations of green solvents like ionic liquids (ILs), deep …

Physics

The flux ratios of gravitationally lensed quasars provide a powerful probe of the nature of dark matter. Importantly, these ratios are sensitive to small-scale structure, irrespective of the presence of baryons. This sensitivity may allow us to study the halo mass function even below the scales where galaxies form observable stars. For accurate measurements, it is essential that the quasar’s light is emitted from a physical region of the quasar with an angular scale of milliarcseconds or larger; this minimizes microlensing effects by stars within the deflector. The warm dust region of quasars fits this criterion, as it has parsec-size …

Covert cerebrovascular disease (CCD) is frequently reported on neuroimaging and associates with increased dementia and stroke risk. We aimed to determine how incidentally-discovered CCD during clinical neuroimaging in a large population associates with mortality. We screened CT and MRI reports of adults aged ≥50 in the Kaiser Permanente Southern California health system who underwent neuroimaging for a non-stroke clinical indication from 2009-2019. Natural language processing identified incidental covert brain infarcts (CBI) and/or white matter hyperintensities (WMH), grading WMH as mild/moderate/severe. Models adjusted for age, sex, ethnicity, multimorbidity, vascular risks, depression, exercise, and imaging modality. Of n=241,028, the mean age was …

Cancergpt For Few Shot Drug Pair Synergy Prediction Using Large Pretrained Language Models, Tianhao Li, Sandesh Shetty, Advaith Kamath, Ajay Jaiswal, Xiaoqian Jiang, Ying Ding, Yejin Kim

Faculty, Staff and Student Publications

Large language models (LLMs) have been shown to have significant potential in few-shot learning across various fields, even with minimal training data. However, their ability to generalize to unseen tasks in more complex fields, such as biology and medicine has yet to be fully evaluated. LLMs can offer a promising alternative approach for biological inference, particularly in cases where structured data and sample size are limited, by extracting prior knowledge from text corpora. Here we report our proposed few-shot learning approach, which uses LLMs to predict the synergy of drug pairs in rare tissues that lack structured data and features. …

Analysis Of Legacy Gravity Data Reveals Sediment-Filled Troughs Buried Under Flathead Valley, Montana, Usa, Ali Gebril, Mohamed A. Khalil, Robert Matthew Joeckel, James Rose

Conservation and Survey Division: Faculty and Staff Publications

Shallow, dominantly silt- and clay-filled erosional troughs in Quaternary sediments under the Flathead Valley (northwestern Montana, USA) are very likely to be hydraulic barriers limiting the horizontal flow of groundwater. Accurately mapping them is important because of increasing demand for groundwater. We used a legacy Bouguer gravity map measured in 1968. The directional derivatives of the map are computed, and the map was enhanced by implementing edge detection tools. We produced generalized derivative, maximum horizontal gradient, total gradient and tilt gradient maps through two-dimensional Fourier transform analysis. These maps were remarkably successful in locating buried troughs in the northern and northwestern parts …

Functional Data Learning Using Convolutional Neural Networks, Jose Galarza, Tamer Oraby Feb 2024

Functional Data Learning Using Convolutional Neural Networks, Jose Galarza, Tamer Oraby

School of Mathematical & Statistical Sciences Faculty Publications

In this paper, we show how convolutional neural networks (CNNs) can be used in regression and classification learning problems for noisy and non-noisy functional data (FD). The main idea is to transform the FD into a 28 by 28 image. We use a specific but typical architecture of a CNN to perform all the regression exercises of parameter estimation and functional form classification. First, we use some functional case studies of FD with and without random noise to showcase the strength of the new method. In particular, we use it to estimate exponential growth and decay rates, the bandwidths of …

Using A Two-Way Engagement Community- And Family-Centered Pedagogy To Prepare Pre-Service Mathematics Teachers In A Hispanic-Serving Institution, Olga Ramirez, Mayra Ortiz Galarza, Luis M. Fernandez Feb 2024

Using A Two-Way Engagement Community- And Family-Centered Pedagogy To Prepare Pre-Service Mathematics Teachers In A Hispanic-Serving Institution, Olga Ramirez, Mayra Ortiz Galarza, Luis M. Fernandez

School of Mathematical & Statistical Sciences Faculty Publications

Research on effective methods to prepare pre-service teachers (PSTs) in teaching mathematics to K-12 Latin* students has been gaining significant momentum. These efforts have focused, in part, on promoting pedagogical practices that recognize and incorporate the culture and language that K-12 Latin* students and their communities share. As teacher educators, we argue that if we are to further prepare PSTs to serve the needs of such increasingly diversifying K-12 student population, the same pedagogical focus on the learner’s cultural wealth should also be applied to the preparation of PSTs themselves, especially among Latin* PSTs in Hispanic Serving Institutions (HSI) like …

Development Of An Empirical Ground-Motion Model For Post-Mining Induced Seismicity Near Gardanne, France, Pierre Gehl, Pascal Dominique, Hideo Aochi, Mickael Delatre, Jannes Kinscher, Isabelle Contrucci Feb 2024

Development Of An Empirical Ground-Motion Model For Post-Mining Induced Seismicity Near Gardanne, France, Pierre Gehl, Pascal Dominique, Hideo Aochi, Mickael Delatre, Jannes Kinscher, Isabelle Contrucci

Journal of Sustainable Mining

Since the closure of mining activities in 2003, the coal basin of Gardanne in South-East France has experienced thousands of small-magnitude earthquake events, mostly triggered by the flooding of mine workings. Some of these events have been powerful enough to be strongly felt by the population, generating nuisance and concern about potential damage to buildings. The aim of this study is to improve the characterisation of the level of ground motion at the surface, by developing a ground-motion model for post-mining induced seismicity, based on several years of recorded data. A Bayesian-based method is applied to the data in order …

Predicting Community Covid-19 Public Health Needs Through Wastewater Based Epidemiology, Maine Usa, Tyler J. Zanon

Integrative Learning Experience (ILE) Theses

This research examines the applicability of various wastewater based epidemiological (WBE) approaches to predicting Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) incidence in four different Maine communities.

The study analyzes the predictive fit of COVID-19 cases based on a simple predictive model, a linear regression model, and a Susceptible, Exposed, Infected, and Recovered (SEIR) differential equation model.

The findings further bolster existing evidence supporting that WBE can play a vital supplementary role in COVID-19 disease surveillance and prediction. predictive models through WBE is becoming an important public health surveillance tool and leveraging it in the future could provide numerous benefits to community level …

No Place: The Queer Utopia Of Liminality, Harry Gallagher Feb 2024

No Place: The Queer Utopia Of Liminality, Harry Gallagher

Online Midwinter Seminar (OMS)

My proposal is a paper on the inherent queerness of the liminal in Jeff Vandermeer’s works, through examples such as the transitional narrative present in the transformation of the Biologist in Annihilation. Especially pertinent is the inherent fighting of Yonic/Phallic imagery happening between her interpretation of a concrete structure as a tower as opposed to a tunnel, which is important to understanding how the Biologist’s trans-masculinity manifests symbolically in the narrative as antithesis to the other cis women on the expedition. Vandermeer’s liminal space in Dead Astronauts also connects to the characters of Moss, a non-binary life form who exists …

Public Elementary Teachers' Experiences With Explosive Student Outbursts: A Qualitative Phenomenological Study, Sarah G. Young Feb 2024

Public Elementary Teachers' Experiences With Explosive Student Outbursts: A Qualitative Phenomenological Study, Sarah G. Young

Doctor of Education Program Dissertations

The problem explored in this qualitative phenomenological study was the adverse effects on elementary school teachers resulting from experiencing students’ explosive outbursts (Bostic et al., 2021). The purpose of this study was to explore the lived experiences of public general education elementary teachers who experienced explosive student outbursts at school. Two research questions guided this study: How do public general education elementary teachers describe their lived experiences with explosive student outbursts at school? How do public general education elementary teachers describe the outcomes of explosive student outbursts? The theoretical framework was based on Lazarus and Folkman’s (1984) transactional theory of …

A Comprehensive Analysis Of Neutrosophic Bonferroni Mean Operator, A. Kanchana, D. Nagarajan, S. Broumi, Dedy Dwi Prastyo

Neutrosophic Sets and Systems

The Neutrosophic Bonferroni operator is a novel operator that we provide in this paper. Then the arithmetic operations for Neutrosophic Bonferroni operator is developed which tells the existence of Neutrosophic Bonferroni operator. Then its properties were discussed with special cases. To group decision-making issues with several attributes, arithmetic ranking operations and the Neutrosophic approach are used. The result is compared with the existing methodology. The suggested approach will more accurately give the decision maker the ideal attribute than the existing system does. Neutrophic multicriteria is a method of decision-making that makes use of ambiguity to integrate various criteria or factors—often …

Madm Model Using Einstein Aggregation Operators Of Sine Single-Valued Neutrosophic Values And Its Application, Sumin Zhang, Jun Ye Feb 2024

Madm Model Using Einstein Aggregation Operators Of Sine Single-Valued Neutrosophic Values And Its Application, Sumin Zhang, Jun Ye

Neutrosophic Sets and Systems

In various fuzzy multiple attribute decision making (MADM) applications, different information descriptions and aggregation operators (AOs) play a crucial role. However, both the Einstein sum and product can include their typical algebraic operation features, but they lack the characteristics of periodicity operations. To fill the research gap of Einstein AOs for single-valued neutrosophic values (SvNVs), this article aims to propose Einstein AOs of sine SvNVs and their MADM model as their new extension. In this study, we first define a new sine SvNV, which integrates sine functions into the membership functions of indeterminacy, falsehood, and truth, and the Einstein operation …

On Solving Bi-Objective Interval Valued Neutrosophic Assignment Problem, T.K. Buvaneshwari, D. Anuradha

Neutrosophic Sets and Systems

The assignment problem (AP) is a well-researched combinatorial optimization problem in which the overall assignment cost or time is minimized by assigning multiple items (tasks) to several entities (workers). Today's optimization challenges cannot be adequately addressed by a single-objective AP, hence the bi-objective AP (BOAP) is taken into consideration. This problem frequently occurs in practical applications with ambiguous parameters in real life. Henceforth, in this article the uncertain parameters are presented as interval valued neutrosophic numbers. In the present study, we formulate bi-objectives assignment problem (BOAP) having cost and time parameters as an interval valued neutrosophic numbers. We proposed interactive …

An Evidence-Based Approach To Set Theory Paradoxism: From Set Boundary To Mixed-Fermion-Boson Condensate Hypothesis, Victor Christianto, Florentin Smarandache Feb 2024

An Evidence-Based Approach To Set Theory Paradoxism: From Set Boundary To Mixed-Fermion-Boson Condensate Hypothesis, Victor Christianto, Florentin Smarandache

Neutrosophic Sets and Systems

Physics thrives on precision, but paradoxes in set theory reveal limitations in our understanding of well-defined boundaries. Neutrosophic logic, challenging the excluded middle principle, introduces the concept of "betweenness" and partial belonging. This article explores among other things several possible avenues to resolve set theory paradoxism, including potential applications of neutrosophic logic in cosmology and particles, from set boundary, to the hypothetical "cosmosphere" boundary, to mixed fermion-boson condensate hypothesis. Embracing indeterminacy and fuzzy boundaries paves the way for a more holistic understanding of the universe's complexity.

Improving The Proof Of The Born Rule Using A Physical Requirement On The Dynamics Of Quantum Particles, Yakir Aharonov, Tomer Shushi Feb 2024

Improving The Proof Of The Born Rule Using A Physical Requirement On The Dynamics Of Quantum Particles, Yakir Aharonov, Tomer Shushi

Mathematics, Physics, and Computer Science Faculty Articles and Research

We propose a complete proof of the Born rule using an additional postulate stating that for a short enough time Δt between two measurements, a property of a particle will keep its values fixed. This dynamical postulate allows us to produce the Born rule in its explicit form by improving the result given in [1]. While the proposed postulate is still not part of the quantum mechanics postulates, every experiment obeys it, and it cannot be deduced using the standard postulates of quantum mechanics.

Spacetime Geometry Of Acoustics And Electromagnetism, Lucas Burns, Tatsuya Daniel, Stephon Alexander, Justin Dressel

Mathematics, Physics, and Computer Science Faculty Articles and Research

Both acoustics and electromagnetism represent measurable fields in terms of dynamical potential fields. Electromagnetic force-fields form a spacetime bivector that is represented by a dynamical energy–momentum 4-vector potential field. Acoustic pressure and velocity fields form an energy–momentum density 4-vector field that is represented by a dynamical action scalar potential field. Surprisingly, standard field theory analyses of spin angular momentum based on these traditional potential representations contradict recent experiments, which motivates a careful reassessment of both theories. We analyze extensions of both theories that use the full geometric structure of spacetime to respect essential symmetries enforced by vacuum wave propagation. The …

Neutrosophic Sets and Systems

The novel concept called neutrosophic set w a s launched to take care of indeterminate factors in real-life data. The hybrid model of neutrosophic set and soft set has been widely studied in different areas of algebra, especially in associative structures such as fields, groups, rings, and modules. In this current paper, the novel concept is further introduce to a non-associative structure termed Q−neutrosophic soft quasigroup ˆ (Q−NSG) and investigate its different algebraic properties of the quasigroups. W e shown the conditions for the sets of α−level cut of Q−NSG to be subquasigroups, the condition for each set of subquasigroups …

A Neutrosophic Study For The Transmission Of Infection With Pathogenic Fungi From Males Of Olive Fly Insects To Their Females, Amani Alhabib, Rafif Alhabib, Huda E. Khalid, A. A. Salama

Neutrosophic Sets and Systems

This paper presents the study of the effectiveness of horizontal transfer of local isolates of the pathogenic fungus Beauveria bassiana (Balsamo) on adults of olive fruit fly Bactrocera oleae (Rossi) at a concentration of 106 spores/ml in laboratory conditions (this work was carried out in specialized scientific laboratories). In addition, it is not possible to reach the desired results in such experiments effectively when the data and observations of the study are not clear and accurate. For this reason, in this paper, experimental data will be presented with inaccurate or uncertain observations using neutrosophic statistics. The purpose is to know …

Evaluation Of Shortest Path On Multi Stage Graph Problem Using Dynamic Approach Under Neutrosophic Environment, Prasanta Kumar Raut, Siva Prasad Behera, Said Broumi, Amarendra Baral

Neutrosophic Sets and Systems

The shortest path problem is a classic optimization problem in graph theory and computer technology. It involves identifying the shortest path between two nodes in a graph, where each edge has a numerical weight. In this paper, we put our effort into examining the use of the dynamic programming method to evaluate the shortest path (SP) between the two specified nodes in a multistage network where the parameter is a multi-value neutrosophic number (MVNN). Firstly, we propose an algorithm based on the forward and backward approach in an uncertain environment and also implement our approach in the Python-3 programming language. …

Generating Neutrosophic Random Variables Following The Poisson Distribution Using The Composition Method ) The Mixed Method Of Inverse Transformation Method And Rejection Method), Maissam Jdid, Florentin Smarandache

Neutrosophic Sets and Systems

Simulation is a numerical technique used to perform tests on a numerical computer, and involves logical and mathematical relationships interacting with each other to describe the behavior and structure of a complex system in the real world over a period of time. Analysis using simulation is a "natural" and logical extension of the mathematical analytical models inherent in operations research, because most operations research methods depend on building mathematical models that closely approximate the real-world environment and we obtain the optimal solution for them using algorithms appropriate to the type of these models. The importance of the simulation process comes …
