Automating Verification Of Bpmn Workflow Functional Correctness Using Model Checking, Bryce Mckay Pierson
Automating Verification Of Bpmn Workflow Functional Correctness Using Model Checking, Bryce Mckay Pierson
Theses and Dissertations
Many critical systems industry-wide demand fail-safe process execution. Many of these systems are beginning to use low-code or no-code (LC/NC) solutions to their problems. Mechanisms for verifying the integrity of LC/NC solutions are extremely limited in comparison to traditional code. One solution exhaustively searches the execution state space for undesirable behavior, but it requires expertise in model checking and extensive manual labor. Additionally, error output from that method is exclusively text-based and demands time and familiarity to comprehend. We introduce a tool for automating model checking of LC/NC solutions. Participation in the automation process requires very little knowledge of the …
"Pasted Up And Printed Out": Watchmen As Ontographic Network, Thomas B. De Groff
"Pasted Up And Printed Out": Watchmen As Ontographic Network, Thomas B. De Groff
Theses and Dissertations
This thesis explores Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons' 1986-87 comic book series Watchmen according to its network structure, paying particular attention to page layout and the establishment of or deviation from the nine-panel "waffle iron" grid. This reading aims to better understand the comic book form, connecting the work of comics theorist Theirry Groensteen to certain elements of actor-network theory and Ian Bogost's notion of the ontograph--a map of being that emphasizes the interobjectivity of networked nodes. This thesis explores the ontographic nature of the comic book form more generally before tracing the meta-textual ontograph in Watchmen. The thesis then …
Autonomy Relation To Student's Motivation In Stem, Halle Patton
Autonomy Relation To Student's Motivation In Stem, Halle Patton
Honors Projects
The purpose of this research project is to investigate how giving students autonomy can affect the way they learn and participate in a STEM environment. Autonomy-Supportive Teaching occurs when students take ownership throughout the entire learning process, becoming more actively engaged and motivated due to the personal responsibility that they feel to learn. Our education system is primarily made up of teacher-centered environments. However, the change to student-centered learning could be revolutionary. By making educational environments geared towards student interest and choice, it could increase both motivation and internalization– two factors that make a successful student. Research was conducted in …

Reduction Of E-Waste With Multi Generational Clustering Of Obsolete Computers, Tyler Sather, Judah Nava
Student Academic Conference
The rise of E-waste is a growing concern as there are many toxic materials or toxic chemicals created with mishandling of the waste. Even in the school system we see obsolete computers systems laying around in closets collecting dust ready to be sent to the landfill. Our aim is to see if by clustering these old systems together we can give them new life thus reducing the need to add them to the worlds e-waste problem. Often these obsolete systems have lower powered CPUs which makes them less desirable for computing, if we cluster these systems together we can potentially …

Software such as Google Maps or flight path routes utilize algorithms which find the most optimal path between two points or locations. These optimal routes are based on existing paths between nodes (locations). These kinds of software have made our lives much more convenient when we want to go somewhere. However, there are situations in which nodes and their paths have not been established. Nonetheless, there are two points that need to be connected with barriers in between. ;The purpose of this project is to tap into a way to create and traverse nodes between two points while refusing to …

Dramatic Play: It's Not Just A Kitchen, Ann Sandeen, Alexis Grabau, Hope Sperr, Stephanie Fernandez
Student Academic Conference
In pretend or dramatic play, children make conscious decisions about what will work for the roles they enact. They have power over the play and make decisions that depend on their imagination and resources. Dramatic play occurs in all classroom areas; however, it is also common to have a dramatic play center in the classroom. The dramatic play center is important because it contributes to various areas of growth and development for young children. These areas of development include gross and fine motor, language and literacy, cognitive, social, and emotional. Teachers have a role in facilitating these areas of growth …

Background: Salivary gland cancers (SGC)-social determinants of health (SDoH) investigations are limited by narrow scopes of SGC-types and SDoH. This Social Vulnerability Index (SVI)-study hypothesized that socioeconomic status (SES) most contributed to SDoH-associated SGC-disparities. Methods: Retrospective cohort of 24 775 SGCs assessed SES, minority-language status (ML), household composition (HH), housing-transportation (HT), and composite-SDoH measured by the SVI via regressions with surveillance and survival length, late-staging presentation, and treatment (surgery, radio-, chemotherapy) receipt. Results: Increasing social vulnerability showed decreases in surveillance/survival; increased odds of advanced-presenting-stage (OR: 1.12, 95% CI: 1.07, 1.17), chemotherapy receipt (OR: 1.13, 95% CI: 1.03, 1.23); decreased odds …

Head Tail Open: Open Tailed Classification Of Imbalanced Document Data, Chetan Joshi
Theses and Dissertations
Deep learning models for scanned document image classification and form understand- ing have made significant progress in the last few years. High accuracy can be achieved by a model with the help of copious amounts of labelled training data for closed-world classification. However, very little work has been done in the domain of fine-grained and head-tailed(class imbalance with some classes having high numbers of data points and some having a low number of data points) open-world classification for documents. Our proposed method achieves a better classification results than the baseline of the head-tail-novel/open dataset. Our techniques include separating the head-tail …

Development And Evaluation Of Full Performance-Based Procedures For The Estimation Of Liquefaction-Induced Building Settlement In A Non-Free-Field Condition Using Cumulative Absolute Velocity, Dallin Nathan Smith
Theses and Dissertations
Liquefaction induced settlement is an earthquake hazard engineers face when developing infrastructure. Current methods for estimating liquefaction induced settlement are done in a free field condition. This assumption is not an accurate way to describe the soil because in most cases the soil will bear some kind of infrastructure. Evaluation of liquefaction induced settlement in a non-free-field condition is a more appropriate way. Using the Bullock et al. CAV model, Bullock et al liquefaction induced settlement model, and probabilistic seismic hazard software from the USGS, a full performance-based procedure for the estimation of liquefaction-induced building settlement in the non-free-field condition …

A feature selection algorithm was used to eliminate the most redundant features, followed by a selection of the best subset of the Logistic regression model (LRM). The …
Aerodynamic Design And Analysis Of A Modified 2006 Mazda Miata, William N. Recher
Aerodynamic Design And Analysis Of A Modified 2006 Mazda Miata, William N. Recher
Honors College Theses
Aerodynamic forces developed by automobiles have destabilizing effects at high speed. These forces tend to skew toward a vehicle’s rear which can present safety concerns, especially for rear-wheel-drive automobiles like the Mazda Miata. To address oversteer and high-speed instability, a vehicle’s design can be tailored to bring about aerodynamic balance and improve traction. LiDAR was used to bring the physical automobile into the digital space. Then, a splitter and diffuser were added to reduce the magnitude of the destabilizing forces. Next, the size and shape of the rear-wing required to balance the vehicle was calculated using a combination of parameters …
