The current experimental investigation uses the water spraying approach to increase the productivity and efficiency of pyramid solar still. The design, construction, and testing of a traditional and modified small-scale pyramid solar still were conducted under identical meteorological conditions as in Tanta City, Egypt (30° 47' N, 31°E). One of the modifications is that heated sheet metal will occasionally be sprayed with salted water. We looked into how the modified solar still's (MPSS) performance characteristics were affected by solar radiation, water depth, and sheet metal-specified temperature. Measurements were made of the saline water temperature, glass temperature, spraying flow rate, and …

The increasing demand for fossil fuels poses significant challenges as their reserves gradually deplete over time. Biodiesel is considered one of the most effective alternative fuels to mitigate these issues. Current research focuses on comparing engine performance parameters when blending biodiesel with fossil fuels in Compression Ignition (C.I.) engines. The study demonstrates a comparison of the exhaust emissions produced by biodiesel fuel. In comparison to diesel, biodiesel generally exhibits lower heating value, higher density, increased fuel consumption, and elevated nitrogen oxide levels. To address these challenges, various additives are mixed and blended with biodiesel to meet international fuel standards. These …

Journal of Engineering Research
Liquefaction is one of the most dramatic defects of granular soil. This phenomenon is mostly observed when loose sand is subjected to a dynamic load or earthquake. In this study, the liquefaction that affected the loose soil evaluated, and some recommendations are introduced. (2-D) Numerical analysis using Plaxis (8.2) was conducted to simulate the behavior of the loose soil under dynamic loads. The studied model was carried out on multi-layers soil supported by stone columns subjected to dynamic loads. It was found that stone columns enhanced the soil behavior and reduced the damage that occurred. Liquefaction of the loose soil …

Shoreline Barriers May Amplify Coastal Groundwater Hazards With Sea-Level Rise, Xin Su, K. M. Befus, Michelle A. Hummel
Geosciences Faculty Publications and Presentations
Subsurface barriers have been proposed to protect coastal aquifers from sea-level rise induced seawater intrusion, but the potential for groundwater emergence near subsurface barriers remains unknown. Here, we investigated how emergence changes groundwater flow conditions and influences the protective performance of subsurface barriers with sea-level rise. We tested the subterranean consequences of sea-level rise for cutoff walls and subsurface dams with cross-shore groundwater flow and salt transport models, investigating how barrier design, aquifer properties, and hydrological conditions control the potential for emergence, groundwater partitioning at the barrier, and seawater intrusion with sea-level rise. We find that most subsurface infrastructure cannot …
Design Of Long-Distance Entanglement Distribution Protocols For Quantum Networks, Stav Haldar
Design Of Long-Distance Entanglement Distribution Protocols For Quantum Networks, Stav Haldar
LSU Doctoral Dissertations
Future quantum technologies such as quantum communication, quantum sensing, and distributed quantum computation, will rely on networks of shared entanglement between spatially separated nodes. Distributing entanglement between these nodes, especially over long distances, currently remains a challenge, due to limitations resulting from the fragility of quantum systems, such as photon losses, non-ideal measurements, and quantum memories with short coherence times. In the absence of full-scale fault-tolerant quantum error correction, which can in principle overcome these limitations, we should understand the extent to which we can circumvent these limitations. In this work, we provide improved protocols and policies for entanglement distribution …
Feynman–Kac Perturbation Of C* Quantum Stochastic Flows, Alexander C.R. Belton, Stephen J. Wills
Feynman–Kac Perturbation Of C* Quantum Stochastic Flows, Alexander C.R. Belton, Stephen J. Wills
School of Engineering, Computing and Mathematics
The method of Feynman–Kac perturbation of quantum stochastic processes has a long pedigree, with the theory usually developed within the framework of processes on von Neumann algebras. In this work, the theory of operator spaces is exploited to enable a broadening of the scope to flows on C∗ algebras. Although the hypotheses that need to be verified in this general setting may seem numerous, we provide auxiliary results that enable this to be simplified in many of the cases which arise in practice. A wide variety of examples is provided by way of illustration.

Rubble pile asteroids are widely understood to be composed of reaccumulated debris following a catastrophic collision between asteroids in the main asteroid belt, where each disruption can make a family of new asteroids. Near-Earth asteroids Ryugu and Bennu have been linked to collisional families in the main asteroid belt, but surface age analyses of each asteroid suggest these bodies are substantially younger than their putative families. Here we show, through a coupled collisional and dynamical evolution of members of these families, that neither asteroid was likely to have been created at the same time as the original family breakups, but …

Background: Apart from the well-established skeletal effects, vitamin D has been explored as a secretagogue influencing various adipokines, including adiponectin and irisin. Recent evidence suggests that specific forms of 25-Hydroxyvitamin D (25(OHD), such as free and bioavailable 25(OH)D, may provide more accurate measurements of vitamin D status. The relationship between vitamin D status and serum irisin and adiponectin concentrations remains largely unexplored, particularly during pregnancy. Methods: We analyzed data from 67 healthy maternal-neonatal pairs from Northern Greece at birth. Biochemical and hormonal tests were conducted on each maternal-neonatal pair.
