Relations Among Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder Features In Childhood And Adolescence, Resilience, And Borderline Personality Disorder Features In Adulthood, Jessica Kastin
ETD Collection
Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) and Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD) are two disorders that share a number of overlapping diagnostic features, such as impulsivity and difficulty with emotion regulation ability. Studies suggest that individuals who meet criteria for an ADHD diagnosis in childhood may have an increased vulnerability for experiencing features of BPD in adulthood. Based on this premise, this study aimed to investigate if resilience, a factor found to improve psychological outcomes, impacts the relationship between ADHD features in childhood and BPD features in adulthood. It was hypothesized that individuals who report high levels of resilience would experience less …

Design And Implementation Of Truly Random Number Generation Using Memristors For In-Memory Computing, Nick Felker
Theses and Dissertations
This paper proposes a new security module based on non-volatile memory. The module uses a memristor-based true random number generator to generate random numbers which can be used for cryptography. The module is implemented in software using a modified RISC-V instruction set architecture. The paper evaluates the performance of the module using the RISC-V simulator Gem5. The results show that the module can generate random numbers at a rate of 63 microseconds per number, which is faster than the standard C library’s random number generator. The module can also be used to scramble strings of characters and generate hashes of …

How Are Entanglement Entropies Related To Entropy Bounds?, Emily Adlam
Philosophy Faculty Articles and Research
In this paper we seek to understand what current knowledge of entanglement entropies suggests about the appropriate way to interpret the covariant entropy bound. We first begin by arguing that just as in the classical case, a universal bound on the von Neumann entropy could have either an epistemic or ontological origin. We then consider several possible ways of explaining the bound as a consequence of features of the entanglement entropy. We discuss consider area laws in condensed matter and quantum field theory, arguing that they suggest an epistemic reading of the bound. We also discuss the ‘spacetime from entanglement’ …

Alternative Statistical Interpretation For The Apparent Plateaus In The Duration Distributions Of Gamma-Ray Bursts, Joshua Alexander Osborne, Christopher Michael Bryant, Fatemeh Bagheri, Amir Shahmoradi
Open Initiatives Grant Funded Publications-Archive
Context. The existence of a plateau in the short-duration tail of the observed distribution of cosmological long-soft gamma ray bursts (LGRBs) is posited to be the first direct evidence of collapsars. A similar plateau in the short-duration tail of the observed duration distribution of short-hard gamma ray bursts (SGRBs) has been suggested as evidence of compact binary mergers.
Aims. We present an equally plausible alternative interpretation for this evidence, based on a purely statistical approach.
Methods. Specifically, we show that the observed plateau in the short-duration tail of the duration distribution of LGRBs can naturally occur in the statistical distributions …

Phosphorus (P) and TiO2 have been extensively studied as anode materials for lithium-ion batteries (LIBs) due to their high specific capacities. However, P is limited by low electrical conductivity and significant volume changes during charge and discharge cycles, while TiO2 is hindered by low electrical conductivity and slow Li-ion diffusion. To address these issues, we synthesized organic–inorganic hybrid anode materials of P–polypyrrole (PPy) and TiO2–PPy, through in situ polymerization of pyrrole monomer in the presence of the nanoscale inorganic materials. These hybrid anode materials showed higher cycling stability and capacity compared to pure P and TiO2. The enhancements are attributed …

The development and training of deep learning models have become increasingly costly and complex. Consequently, software engineers are adopting pre-trained models (PTMs) for their downstream applications. The dynamics of the PTM supply chain remain largely unexplored, signaling a clear need for structured datasets that document not only the metadata but also the subsequent applications of these models. Without such data, the MSR community cannot comprehensively understand the impact of PTM adoption and reuse. This paper presents the PeaTMOSS dataset, which comprises metadata for 281,638 PTMs and detailed snapshots for all PTMs with over 50 monthly downloads (14,296 PTMs), along with …

A Systematic Approach For Evaluating And Selecting Healthcare Waste Treatment Devices Using Owcm-Codas And Triangular Neutrosophic Sets, Asmaa Elsayed, Bilal Arain
Neutrosophic Systems with Applications
Healthcare is a fundamental aspect of human life, impacting individuals, communities, and societies. Investing in healthcare infrastructure, services, and education is essential for fostering a healthy, thriving population. Healthcare waste management is a critical aspect of public health, and it requires a concerted effort from healthcare facilities, governments, and communities to ensure that waste is managed in a way that minimizes risks to human health and the environment. This paper proposes a hybrid methodology combining the Opinion Weight Criteria Method (OWCM) and the Combinative Distance-Based Assessment (CODAS) within the framework of Triangular Neutrosophic Sets (TNS) to evaluate and select the …

In this paper, we examine how different governance types impact prosocial behaviors in a heterogenous society. We construct a general theoretical framework to examine a game-theoretic model to assess the ease of achieving a cooperative outcome. We then build a dynamic agent-based model to examine three distinct governance types in a heterogenous population: monitoring one's neighbors, despotic leadership, and influencing one's neighbors to adapt strategies that lead to better fitness. In our research, we find that while despotic leadership may lead towards high prosociality and high returns it does not exceed the effects of a local individual who can exert …
Experimental Design For Scientific Discovery, Quan Minh Nguyen
Experimental Design For Scientific Discovery, Quan Minh Nguyen
McKelvey School of Engineering Graduate Student Theses & Dissertations
Experimental design offers an elegant model of many problems where one navigates within a vast search space seeking data points with certain characteristics. A multitude of applications in science and engineering fall under this umbrella, with drug and materials discovery being prime examples. The experimental design approach maintains a probabilistic model of the search space, and uses Bayesian decision theory accounting for this model to guide the accumulation of observed data to maximize an experimentation objective of interest. This dissertation explores Bayesian optimization and active search, two realizations of the experimental design framework that model discovery tasks. While existing solutions …

Rigorous Verification Of Stability Of Ideal Gas Layers, Damian Anderson
Theses and Dissertations
In this thesis we develop tools for carrying out computer assisted proof of the stability of traveling wave solutions of the spatially one-dimensional compressible Navier-Stokes equations with an ideal gas equation of state. In particular, we obtain rigorous, tight error bounds on a high-accuracy numerical approximation of the traveling wave profile for parameters corresponding to air, and we obtain rigorous representations in a neighborhood of positive and negative infinity of the solution to the first order ODE associated with linearizing the PDE equations about the traveling wave solution. We also develop supporting tools for rigorous verification of wave stability.

Fishing cat Prionailurus viverrinus (Bennett, 1833) is an elusive and medium-sized feline species with distinguished marking patterns on their head and body separating them from other feline species. Despite being distributed widely among diverse geographic locations, their abundance has declined due to significant habitat loss and human disturbances. There exists a substantial research gap regarding their abundance and distribution in Nepal. In this article, we presented the updated documentation of the fishing cat distribution in the northern sector of Chitwan National Park through our species-focused camera trapping survey. The study was carried out between April and May 2021 with a …

Individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) face many barriers to meaningful inclusion, including limited language and communication skills. Professionals, such as speech-language pathologists (SLPs), can provide personalized instruction to promote skill development and inclusion. Providing opportunities for individuals to express preferences and choice, such as the multiple stimulus without replacement preference assessment (MSWO; DeLeon & Iwata 1996), within these programs, further increases skill acquisition and social interaction. However, limitations in professionals’ knowledge and skills in performing assessments can be another barrier to meaningful inclusion for individuals with IDD and traditional training methods can be challenging and time consuming. …

BACKGROUND: Cervical arterial tortuosity is associated with adverse outcomes in Loeys-Dietz syndrome and other heritable aortopathies.
METHODS AND RESULTS: A method to assess tortuosity based on curvature of the vessel centerline in 3-dimensional space was developed. We measured cervical carotid tortuosity in 65 patients with Loeys-Dietz syndrome from baseline computed tomography angiogram/magnetic resonance angiogram and all serial images during follow-up. Relations between baseline carotid tortuosity, age, aortic root diameter, and its change over time were compared. Patients with unoperated aortic roots were assessed for clinical end point (type A aortic dissection or aortic root surgery during 4 years of follow-up). …

For the past several decades, optimizing compilers have been aprimary area of focus in both industry and academia. This continued research interest is a testament to the complexity of thistask, primarily stemming from the vast number of parameters thatmust be explored to attain near-optimal results. One of the keycompiler optimizations is "Register Blocking (RB)" also known as"Register-level Tiling" or "unroll-and-jam". RB can strongly reducethe number of executed Load/Store (L/S) instructions, and as aconsequence the number of data accesses in memory hierarchy, but due to its inherent complexities, fine-tuning is essential for itseffective implementation. To address this problem, in this work anew …

Microalgal biomass can be used for various productions such as biofuels, food, supplements, and more as it is categorized as environmentally friendly throughout the cultivation process. Nutrients play one of the most important roles in cultivating microalgae besides other factors such as temperature, pH, salinity, inorganic carbon, oxygen, light intensity, and carbon dioxide availability. The technology has become much more advanced in cultivating microalgae for maximizing lipid or biomass …
The Theological Method Of Thomas Aquinas In The Beatific Vision, Kent T. Maitland
The Theological Method Of Thomas Aquinas In The Beatific Vision, Kent T. Maitland
Liberty Theological Review
This essay posits that Thomas Aquinas’s Beatific Vision may not be a biblically accurate conception of the Christian’s eternal destiny because it is grounded in a problematic theological method. For Aquinas, theology is a science for deducing the saving knowledge of God, which can only be discovered through Scripture.
