Blockchain-Based Trust Model For Inter-Domain Routing, Qiong Yang, Li Ma, Sami Ullah, Shanshan Tu, Hisham Alasmary, Muhammad Waqas
Research outputs 2022 to 2026
Border Gateway Protocol (BGP), as the standard inter-domain routing protocol, is a distance-vector dynamic routing protocol used for exchanging routing information between distributed Autonomous Systems (AS). BGP nodes, communicating in a distributed dynamic environment, face several security challenges, with trust being one of the most important issues in inter-domain routing. Existing research, which performs trust evaluation when exchanging routing information to suppress malicious routing behavior, cannot meet the scalability requirements of BGP nodes. In this paper, we propose a blockchain-based trust model for inter-domain routing. Our model achieves scalability by allowing the master node of an AS alliance to transmit …

Design Of An Improved Robust Fractional-Order Pid Controller For Buck–Boost Converter Using Snake Optimization Algorithm, Seyyed Morteza Ghamari, Hasan Molaee, Mehrdad Ghahramani, Daryoush Habibi, Asma Aziz
Research outputs 2022 to 2026
With the increasing complexity of modern power systems, effective control of DC–DC converters has become crucial to ensure stability and efficiency. This paper focuses on optimizing the parameters of a known fractional-order proportional–integral–derivative (FOPID) controller for the control of a DC–DC buck–boost converter. The control of a DC–DC buck–boost converter is achieved using aFOPID approach. The gains of this technique have been enhanced utilizing the snake optimization (SO) algorithm. This converter exhibits unfavourable behaviour due to its non-minimum structure, necessitating a well-regulated controller to guarantee stability. The fractional concept is suggested here to enhance the dynamics of the classical PID …

Seismic analysis often involves significant uncertainty and requires detailed observations. The traditional approaches are constrained by unclear mechanisms and imprecise models to predict the stability of geostructures. The research gap between the accuracy of observed and predicted values can be bridged by employing artificial intelligence-based machine learning (ML) models. The seismic displacement of the nailed soil wall obtained from experimental studies were assessed using suitable ML approaches. Laboratory studies revealed that the critical acceleration was increased by 32% on the inclusion of nails of reinforcement length to excavation height ratio (L/H) to 0.6, and by 17% when the (L/H) was …
Rigidity Of Class Ability Grouping Practices In Australia, Olivia Johnston, Christa Norris, Wei Zhang
Rigidity Of Class Ability Grouping Practices In Australia, Olivia Johnston, Christa Norris, Wei Zhang
Research outputs 2022 to 2026
Inequity in education is pronounced when data is used to form rigid class ability groups. Rigid grouping means that students with backgrounds that disadvantage them in education can be locked into low ‘ability’ class groups. In contrast, informed and flexible use of data can support adaptable and heterogeneous ability grouping, which better accommodates the diverse needs and potentials of students. This approach ensures that students are not permanently categorised but can move between groups as their abilities and needs evolve. Research drawing on international data sources like the Programme for International Student Assessment (PISA) oversimplifies the range of ability grouping …

Tropical cyclones and storm surges are a major threat to coastal communities of the Philippines. On 08th November 2013, category 5 Typhoon Haiyan (local name: Yolanda) made landfall on the islands of Eastern Visayas and caused more than 6000 casualties and severe damage to infrastructure and habitats. To assess the geomorphic impact of one of the strongest tropical cyclones on record, three post-typhoon surveys were conducted in 2014, 2015 and 2016 at two severely affected sites on the islands of Leyte and Samar. They aimed at documenting Haiyan-related erosional features and sand deposits. The sites have different geomorphic and geological …

Teachers’ Perceptions Of Students’ Ict Skills For Online Assessments (Naplan): Influences And Impact, Cindy Carboni, Susan Main
Research outputs 2022 to 2026
This convergent mixed-methods study investigated Australian teachers’ perspectives on the computing competencies required for online National Assessment Program – Literacy and Numeracy (NAPLAN). A total of 107 teachers completed surveys examining how socio-educational backgrounds and classroom practices shape students’ readiness for high-stakes online assessments. Quantitative analysis revealed significant associations between socio-educational advantage and students’ proficiency in seven essential NAPLAN ICT online skills, including typing, navigation, and on-screen manipulation. Qualitative findings highlighted teachers’ concerns about limited exposure to computing tools and insufficient practice time, which many believed hindered student performance in online assessments. Teachers also noted that inequities in skill development …

The marine soundscape, whether in coastal areas or the deepest ocean, in the tropics or at the poles, contains a myriad of sounds. Sounds may be grouped by their origin into geophony (e.g., wind, precipitation, waves, earthquakes, volcanoes, and ice), biophony (e.g., invertebrates, fishes, and marine mammals), and anthropophony (e.g., port construction, mineral and hydrocarbon exploration and production, renewable energy installation, and shipping). This chapter gives a brief overview of the geophony and biophony, and then focuses on the anthropophony. The sounds of boats and ships of various types, marine seismic surveys, drilling, dredging, pile driving, windfarms, geotechnical site investigations, …

The Monstrous-Digital: Data Necropolitics, Social Media, And The Assassination Of Brian Thompson, Laura Glitsos
Research outputs 2022 to 2026
This research article examines the assassination of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson and the ensuing social media attention on the alleged shooter Luigi Mangione. I argue that the incident can be read as a cultural moment that captures the essence of an emergent sensibility that I call the “monstrous-digital” because of its layered and complex interconnections with the digital apparatus as a space of control and contestation. Specifically, I connect it to the biopolitical weaponization of computational systems, McQuillan’s (2015) algorithmic states of exception, and Pele and Mulholland’s (2023) data necropolitics. I approach this research using a qualitative case study method, …

Research outputs 2022 to 2026
Community search in heterogeneous information networks (HINs) often neglects temporal dynamics, yielding structures that poorly reflect real-world interactions. We introduce the Temporal HIN Community Search (THCS) problem and propose a novel core model that captures both structural cohesiveness and temporal relevance. Our model uses a time span constraint to ensure interaction recency and a query interval for flexible temporal exploration, filtering irrelevant connections while preserving structural density. We develop two efficient online algorithms—Center-based Sliding Window search and Incremental Center Expansion—that exploit meta-path symmetry and dynamic connectivity tracking. For frequent queries, we design a Temporal HIN Core Interval-Index (TCI-Index), organising minimal …
