Music Therapy In The Scope Of Psychology: From Asylums To Contemporary Practice, Rachel A. Mirsen

Psychology from the Margins

This paper explores the historical ties between music therapy and psychology, tracing its evolution from its origins in asylums to contemporary practice. By examining historical records and recent case studies, the dynamic interplay between music therapy, psychological practices, and sociocultural factors is highlighted. The paper compares the use of music therapy in the 20th century, particularly in psychiatric asylums, to its modern-day applications, focusing on two healthcare facilities in New Jersey: Overbrook Hospital and Bancroft NeuroRehab. Through this comparison, it becomes evident that music therapy has gained legitimacy and specialization over time, transitioning from recreational activities to evidence-based, individualized interventions …

From Classrooms To Conflict: How Missionary Education Paved The Way To The Korean War, Douglas K. Sutherland

Doctoral Dissertations and Projects

This dissertation explores the pivotal role of Protestant missionaries and humanitarian actors in Korea’s quest for a unified, independent nation, examining their influence on social, cultural, and political transformations through education. Beginning with the arrival of the first Protestant missionaries in the late 19th century, the study delves into their impact on Korean society by establishing schools and hospitals that introduced Western education and healthcare practices, challenging traditional Confucian norms and fostering a new intellectual and ideological landscape. These institutions became centers of modernity and nationalist ideologies, cultivating a generation of Korean leaders who played significant roles in the independence …

The Apologetic Method Of Thomas B. Warren: A Presentation Of His Case And A Biblical Assessment, George F. Beals Jan 2025

The Apologetic Method Of Thomas B. Warren: A Presentation Of His Case And A Biblical Assessment, George F. Beals

Doctoral Dissertations and Projects

Philosopher of religion and biblical theist Thomas B. Warren insists that the philosopher and theologian, and all, must do more than try to collect information and leave the matter there. Especially when dealing with matters of great import, to make one’s case, one must take the added step of forming an argument. “What is your argument?” he often asked. Accordingly, he worked out a precisely worded argument, valid in form, all of whose premises, he believes, are true, that he then defends as the basic argument of biblical Christianity. He specifies that its conclusion is the overall theme of the …

What Hath Jerusalem To Do With Chile: Towards An Evangelical Understanding Of The Enneagram And Its Usage For Spiritual Development, Wesley E. Scholtz Jan 2025

What Hath Jerusalem To Do With Chile: Towards An Evangelical Understanding Of The Enneagram And Its Usage For Spiritual Development, Wesley E. Scholtz

Doctoral Dissertations and Projects

Currently, it is estimated that the personality testing market is worth approximately $2 billion. The Church has expressed interest in understanding personality types through various testing methods. The Enneagram offers a possibly ancient method to help people understand who they are in a spiritual capacity, which can be an aid in connecting more closely with God. This dissertation addressed the research gap that exists within the current literature which is the lack of data concerning whether adults who are professional, ordained ministers are aware of, use, and may be skeptical of the Enneagram. The research method in this dissertation was …

The Frequency Of Elliptic Curves Over $\Mathbb{Q}[I]$ With Fixed Torsion, Alan S. Zhao Jan 2025

The Frequency Of Elliptic Curves Over $\Mathbb{Q}[I]$ With Fixed Torsion, Alan S. Zhao

Rose-Hulman Undergraduate Mathematics Journal

Mazur\textsc{\char13}s Theorem states that there are precisely 15 possibilities for the torsion subgroup of an elliptic curve defined over the rational numbers. It was previously shown by Harron and Snowden that the number of isomorphism classes of elliptic curves of height up to $X$ that have a specific torsion subgroup $G$ is on the order of $X^{1/{d(G)}}$, for some positive $d(G)$ depending on $G$. We compute $d(G)$ for these groups over $\Qi$. Furthermore, in a collection of recent papers it was proven that there are 9 more possibilities for the torsion subgroup in the base field $\Qi$. We compute the …

An Academic Self-Regulation Program For First-Generation Students In Occupational Therapy: A Preexperimental Study, Pola Ham Jan 2025

An Academic Self-Regulation Program For First-Generation Students In Occupational Therapy: A Preexperimental Study, Pola Ham

The Open Journal of Occupational Therapy

First-generation students at U.S. universities have lower academic performance than their continuing-generation counterparts. They also have a lower level of academic self-regulation and academic self-efficacy. Bandura’s social cognition theory and Zimmerman’s self-regulation theory were used as theoretical frameworks to guide an intervention program relating to self-efficacy and self-regulation. A pretest and posttest survey measured changes in the participants’ use of the academic self-regulatory strategies and level of confidence in using those strategies. An open-ended questionnaire provided a detailed account of the participants’ lived experiences of the program. The researcher-facilitator designed an academic self-regulation program using Zimmerman’s (1998) self-regulated learning framework …

Adaptive Reasoning And Evaluation Framework For Multi-Agent Intelligent Systems In Debate-Driven Decision-Making, Subhadip Mitra Jan 2025

Adaptive Reasoning And Evaluation Framework For Multi-Agent Intelligent Systems In Debate-Driven Decision-Making, Subhadip Mitra

Defensive Publications Series

Collective decisions require debate to surface contrastive points of view and to enable balanced and well-informed decision-making. Large language models (LLMs) can provide an opportunity to formulate deliberative decision making through multiple artificial intelligence (AI) agents. However, existing LLMs struggle with complex group discussions. This disclosure describes an artificial intelligence framework and techniques to support complex debate scenarios and group decision-making. A tiered structure of language models is deployed to dynamically generate and evaluate arguments. The techniques can handle multi-participant debates while considering ethical implications, producing well-reasoned outcomes. The described framework addresses limitations in existing debate systems by offering improved …

This article presents constraints on dark-matter-electron interactions obtained from the first underground data-taking campaign with multiple SuperCDMS HVeV detectors operated in the same housing. An exposure of 7.63  g−days is used to set upper limits on the dark-matter-electron scattering cross section for dark matter masses between 0.5 and 1000  MeV/𝑐2, as well as upper limits on dark photon kinetic mixing and axionlike particle axioelectric coupling for masses between 1.2 and 23.3  eV/𝑐2. Compared to an earlier HVeV search, sensitivity was improved as a result of an increased overburden of 225 meters of water equivalent, an anticoincidence …
