(Virtual) Radians: Units Are Important And Why The Unit Circle Is Not, Matthew Mccutcheon
Professional Learning Day
Have you ever wondered why we have radians as a unit of measure for angles? Aren't degrees good enough? I like them. After all, a right angle is a nice, round 90degrees – so why complicate things? While degrees are useful, radians bring a unique significance. Units matter, even in the world of mathematics!

Computation Of The Unreliable Mx/M/1 Model For Multiple Working Vacations Queuing System With Encouraged Arrivals, Sujipriya. A, K Julia Rose Mary
Baghdad Science Journal
This research analyzed queuing system with encouraged arrivals under multiple working vacations and server breakdowns. It is based on a Mx/M/1 model, where the customers arrive in batches or bulk. In addition, the arrival follows a Poisson process and the service time is distributed exponentially. Moreover, in this queuing system, breakdowns can occur at any time, and it is affecting the server's service time. The repair time is independent. Server resume the service as soon as returns from the service facility. Repair time follows exponential distribution. Encouraged arrival in queuing models involves external factors or incentives that prompt …

Harmonizing Innovation: The Beatles, Emi, And The Birth Of Computed Tomography Imaging, Matthew A. Daniel, Alexander Holland, Saptarshi Biswas
HCA Healthcare Journal of Medicine
Computed tomography (CT) imaging has become a cornerstone of modern medical diagnostics, thanks to the groundbreaking work of Sir Godfrey Hounsfield. However, the significant role played by his employer, Electric and Musical Industries (EMI), in providing financial support for his research is often overlooked. In this paper, we explore the connection between EMI's success in the music industry, particularly its signing of the Beatles, and Hounsfield's pioneering work on CT imaging. EMI’s success in the music industry provided the financial stability for Hounsfield's research endeavors. In 1971, he developed the first CT scanner, which revolutionized diagnostic medicine. His collaboration with …

Ecgancovid: Efficient Conditional Gan Architecture For Covid-19 Disease Segmentation, Payman Hussein Hussan, Israa Hadi Ali
Baghdad Science Journal
Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) poses a global threat, impacting millions worldwide. While automated detection of lung infections through Computed Tomography (CT) scans is a promising alternative, segmenting infected regions from CT slices remains challenging due to low-contrast infection boundaries and blurred appearances. To address this challenge, A deep-learning model called ECGANCOVID-Net is proposed for detection and identification of infected regions in chest CT images. Our model utilizes a semantic hierarchical segmenter to detect regions of lung infection caused by Coronavirus in CT medical images. The model consists of two components, namely the U-CGAN-Net models. The initial neural …

On (J - Δ) Semi Homogeneous Systems Of Differential Equations, Aya H. Hasan, Bassam Jabbar Al-Asadi
Baghdad Science Journal
The concept of homogeneity in differential equations can be generalized to systems of differential equations as shown in this work. The classification of three-dimensional differential equation systems is presented based on the definition of the Jacobean matrix and its determinant, where two systems of the homogeneous system are defined, called the J-semi-homogeneous system and the other δ-semi-homogeneous system, where the first definition is based on the Jacobian matrix, while the second is based on the determinant of the Jacobite matrix. Examples are given for both definitions, and the relationship between the two definitions will be studied. In addition to finding …

Analysis Of Prey, Predator And Top Predator Model Involving Various Functional Responses, Divya B., K. Kavitha
Baghdad Science Journal
This research proposes a mathematical model to investigate the dynamical behavior of the system of three species, namely prey, predator and top predator. The feeding behavior of each predator serves as a functional response. The interaction between the species is carried out by a functional response. Crowley Martin functional response is incorporated between prey and predator while Holling type III functional response occurs between predator and top predator. The existence of positivity and boundedness of the system have been examined. The equilibrium points of the system are determined. The system has been linearized by applying the Jacobian matrix. The main …
New Approximating Results By Weak Convergence Of Forked Sequences, Bareq Baqi Salman, Salwa Salman Abed
New Approximating Results By Weak Convergence Of Forked Sequences, Bareq Baqi Salman, Salwa Salman Abed
Baghdad Science Journal
The modular function spaces are natural generalization of spaces like Lebesgue space, Orlicz space, Lorentz p-space, Orlicz--Lorentz space, Musielak--Orlicz space, et al. The function modulars lack basic and flexible properties that norm functions have, as they are functional lacks homogeneity and subadditivity and, therefore, it might be surprising to use techniques involving asymptotic centers, normal structure and uniform convexity to obtain fixed point theorems. The purpose of this paper is to give a new accelerated iterative algorithm for multi valued\single valued mappings in modular function spaces and to prove some results about their convergence (strong or weak) to a fixed …

Hopf And Zero-Hopf Bifurcation Of The Four-Dimensional Lotka-Volterra Systems, Sirwan A. Mustafa, Niazy H. Hussen
Baghdad Science Journal
In this work, the four-dimensional Lotka-Volterra model (4DLV) involving four species in a constant environment is considered. The objective of this investigation is to study the local bifurcations occurring in the system. This system has at most sixteen possible equilibrium points. One of the equilibrium points is considered in order to investigate the periodic solutions that bifurcate from the Hopf and the zero-Hopf equilibrium points, respectively. It has been proven that, five families of sufficient conditions exist on the parameters of the system in which the Jacobian matrix at equilibrium point has a pair of purely imaginary ± iω …
Enhancing Virtual Reality Usability With A Ml Based Dynamic Adaptive System, Ananth Ramaseri-Chandra, Hassan Reza
Enhancing Virtual Reality Usability With A Ml Based Dynamic Adaptive System, Ananth Ramaseri-Chandra, Hassan Reza
Computer Science Posters and Presentations
Virtual reality (VR) holds tremendous potential, but cybersickness degrades the user experience. Since individuals vary, a one-size-fits-all design is insufficient. Our work introduces a dynamic adaptive system that personalizes VR experiences by learning individual cybersickness profiles from head-tracking data and sickness questionnaires while adjusting settings such as field of view and foveated rendering strength. Early results show that our system reduces post-exposure sickness scores, enhancing the user experience and highlighting the importance of personalizing VR.

Provable Security In Idealised Models, Chandranan Dhar
Doctoral Theses
This thesis is a compilation of provable security analyses of various cryptographic constructions in idealised models. The first construction examined is the ABR hash. We revisit the existing proof of the ABR hash in the random oracle model and identify significant errors in the proof. Although we are unable to correct the original proof, we establish the security of the ABR tree of height 3 from scratch, addressing the first non-trivial case. As our second contribution, we conduct a tight and comprehensive security analysis of the Ascon AEAD mode in the random permutation model. We show that the efficiency of …

Educational Choice: The Legacy Of Meyer V. Nebraska And Pierce V. Society Of Sisters: Introduction, Maimon Schwarzschild
The Journal of Contemporary Legal Issues
One hundred years ago, in 1925, in a lawsuit brought by parochial and private schools, the U.S. Supreme Court unanimously struck down an Oregon state law requiring children to attend only public schools. Two years earlier, in 1923, the Court struck down a state law prohibiting the teaching of foreign languages to young children. Midway between the hundredth anniversaries of these two decisions—in March 2024—the Classical Liberal Institute at New York University School of Law sponsored a symposium in conjunction with this Journal on “Educational Choice: The Legacy of Meyer v. Nebraska and Pierce v. Society of Sisters”.

What Counselors Say Matters For Supporting High School Newcomer Multilingual Learners As They Work Toward Graduation, Sonia Lucrecia Molina Openshaw
What Counselors Say Matters For Supporting High School Newcomer Multilingual Learners As They Work Toward Graduation, Sonia Lucrecia Molina Openshaw
Theses and Dissertations
This thesis explores how high school (HS) counselors describe their work with newcomer multilingual learners (MLs). Using the lens of Yosso’s (2005) Community Cultural Wealth (CCW) framework to identify asset perspectives in their work with these students. They suggest specific supports and barriers impacting these students' academic and social success in school. Findings reveal that counselors often focus on addressing the immediate needs of HS newcomer MLs, such as language acquisition and academic readiness, but less frequently recognize the cultural, linguistic, and social assets students bring to their educational journey. Counselors highlight the importance of systemic supports, including onboarding processes, …

Metal Nitrides As Cathode Hosts For Lithium-Sulfur Batteries, Hai-Ji Xiong, Cheng-Wei Zhu, Ding-Rong Deng, Qi-Hui Wu
Journal of Electrochemistry
Lithium-sulfur batteries are considered as one of the potential solutions as integrating renewable energy systems for large-scale energy storage because of their high theoretical energy density (2600 Wh·kg–1) and specific capacity (1675 mAh·g–1). Currently, various strategies have been proposed to overcome the technical barriers, e.g., “shuttle effect”, capacity decay and volumetric change, which impede the successful commercialization of lithium-sulfur batteries. This paper reviews the applications of metal nitrides as the cathode hosts for high-performance lithium-sulfur batteries, summarizes the design strategies of different host materials, and discusses the relationship between the properties of metal nitrides and their …

Enhancing Cycle Life Of Graphite ‖ Lifepo4 Batteries Via Copper Substituted Li2Ni1-XCuXO2 Cathode Prelithiation Additive, Jian-Ming Zheng, Jing-Wen Zhang, Tian-Peng Jiao
Journal of Electrochemistry
Lithium nickel oxide (Li2NiO2), as a sacrificial cathode prelithiation additive, has been used to compensate for the lithium loss for improving the lifespan of lithium-ion batteries (LIBs). However, high-cost Li2NiO2 suffers from inferior delithiation kinetics during the first cycle. Herein, we investigate the effects of the cost-effective Cu substitution of Li2Ni1-xCuxO2 (x = 0, 0.2, 0.3, 0.5, 0.7) synthesized by high-temperature solid-phase method on the structure, morphology, electrochemical performance of graphite‖LiFePO4 battery. The X-ray Diffraction (XRD) refinement result demonstrates that Cu substitution strategy is favorable …

Sno2 Particles Embedded Into Carbon Coated Mesoporous SioX Rod As High Volumetric Capacity Anode For Lithium-Ion Batteries, Jia-Lin Guo, Ni-Ni Li, Peng Zheng
Journal of Electrochemistry
Due to the high capacity and moderate volume expansion of silicon protoxide SiOx (160%) compared with that of Si (300%), reducing silicon dioxide SiO2 into SiOx while maintaining its special nano-morphology makes it attractive as an anode of Li-ion batteries. Herein, through a one-pot facile high-temperature annealing route, using SBA15 as the silicon source, and embedding tin dioxide SnO2 particles into carbon coated SiOx, the mesoporous SiOx-SnO2@C rod composite was prepared and tested as the anode material. The results revealed that the SnO2 particles were distributed uniformly in the …

A Conceptual Framework For University Teachers' Job Performance In Henan, China: Integrating A Competency Model And The Mediating Role Of Perceived Organizational Support, Xu Wen, Kyra Ley Sy Law, Leong-Mow Gooi
International Journal of Management, Finance and Accounting
This conceptual paper explores the theoretical framework surrounding the relationship between teacher competency and job performance in universities in Henan Province, China. Drawing on Spencer's competency model, the paper conceptualises teacher competency as comprising five key dimensions: skills, knowledge, self-concept, traits, and motives. It also introduces perceived organisational support as a mediating variable, offering a novel perspective on how it influences the link between competency and job performance. Theoretical discussions are advanced through a multidimensional approach, expanding the scope of competency and organisational support theories within the higher education context. This study proposes to employ a quantitative research design to …

Widespread use of genetically engineered maize targeting the corn rootworm complex (Diabrotica species) has raised concerns about insect resistance. Twelve years of university field trial and farm survey data from ten United States Corn Belt states indicate that maize hybrids expressing toxins derived from the bacterium Bacillus thuringiensis (Bt maize) exhibited declining protection from rootworm feeding with increased planting while pest pressures simultaneously decreased. The analysis revealed a tendency to overplant Bt maize, leading to substantial economic losses; this was particularly striking in eastern Corn Belt states. Our findings highlight the need to go beyond the “tragedy of the …
