Baghdad Science Journal

Numerous applications in chemistry are enabled by chemical graph theory, which is a branch of graph theory. Numerical quantities derived from the chemical graphs of a molecule, known as topological indices and co-indices, are used to model the chemical and physical properties of molecules in quantitative Structure-Property relationships (QSPR) and quantitative structure-activity relationships (QSAR) research. Fortunately, chemical-based experiments have found a strong connection between Topological descriptors (topological indices and co-indices) of molecular structures and their Physicochemical Properties, such as boiling point, and toxicity of drugs. Although several research reports have contributed to the computation of topological indices of the benzenoid …

Explicit Modularity And Moments For Certain Hypergeometric Character Sums, Brian Grove Mar 2025

Explicit Modularity And Moments For Certain Hypergeometric Character Sums, Brian Grove

LSU Doctoral Dissertations

A great deal of progress in number theory throughout history has been motivated by trying to solve equations. One of the most famous challenges is to show there are no positive integer solutions to $x^{n}+y^{n} = z^{n}$ for $n > 2$, posed by Fermat around 1637. Special cases, such as the $n = 3$ and $n = 4$ cases, can be established using various algebraic manipulations. However, a general solution was elusive until the late 1990s when the combined work of Wiles \cite{Wiles} and Taylor--Wiles \cite{TaylorWiles} give a full proof.

One of the key insights used in proving Fermat's conjecture involves …

Fixed Hooks In Arbitrary Columns Of Partitions, Philip Cuthbertson Mar 2025

Fixed Hooks In Arbitrary Columns Of Partitions, Philip Cuthbertson

Michigan Tech Publications

In a paper by the author, Hemmer, Hopkins, and Keith, the concept of a fixed point in a sequence was applied to the sequence of first column hook lengths of a partition. In this paper, we generalize this notion to fixed hook lengths in an arbitrary column of a partition. We establish combinatorial connections between these fixed hooks and colored partitions that have interesting gap and mex-like conditions. Additionally, we obtain several generating functions for hook lengths of a given fixedness by hook length or part size in unrestricted partitions, as well as some classical restrictions such as odd and …

How Do Collective Agreements Stack Up? Implications For Academic Freedom, Tim Ribaric, Rahul Kumar

Journal of Collective Bargaining in the Academy

Abstract Academic freedom, a cornerstone of higher education, is formally codified within the enforceable language of collective agreements (CAs) between universities and faculty unions in Canada. While the Canadian Association of University Teachers (CAUT) provides an exemplar framework for academic freedom clauses, institutional interpretations and implementations vary significantly. This study comprehensively analyzed CAs from 44 Canadian universities using computational text analysis methods, specifically Latent Dirichlet Allocation (LDA) and Term Frequency-Inverse Document Frequency (TF-IDF). The analysis revealed that approximately 27% of institutions closely align with the CAUT exemplar, while 57% incorporate additional limiting factors that qualify the exercise of academic freedom. …
