Excerpt: The growing digitalization of healthcare has exposed hospitals to significant cybersecurity threats, particularly ransomware attacks. The Health Sector Cybersecurity Coordination Center (HC3) reported that as of mid-2024, there were 730 cyber-attacks worldwide against healthcare institutions, with 530 targeting the U.S. (AHA, 2024). Half of these incidents involved ransomware, a type of malware that restricts access to critical data until a ransom is paid (HHS, 2021). Hospitals are attractive targets for cybercriminals due to their essential role in patient care. Cybercriminals exploit vulnerabilities in hospital networks, often causing severe operational and financial damage. Factors such as understaffed IT teams, outdated …

Breakfast In Schools: Literature Review, Hannah C. Posey Mar 2025

Breakfast In Schools: Literature Review, Hannah C. Posey

Master of Nutrition and Dietetics

Breakfast is recommended as part of a healthy diet because it is associated with healthier macro and micronutrient intakes, BMI, and lifestyle. Breakfast is also widely promoted to improve cognitive function and academic performance (Hoyland et al., 2009). Yet, according to Hayes and FitzSimons (2024) in the 2021-2022 school year, 51.9 out of every 100 students picked up breakfast, while in the 2022-2023 school year that decreased to 50.9 out of every 100 students. That is a decrease of 1.2 million children for the school year not receiving school breakfast that had the year prior. Hearst et al. (2017) discovered …

Accurate And Scalable Control-Flow Differential Analysis On System Traces, Yuta Nakamura

College of Computing and Digital Media Dissertations

Debugging and understanding system behavior pose technical challenges, often necessitating the comparison of two audited execution traces. Although provenance systems execution traces, the audited traces at most enable causal analysis within a single known execution. As a result, utilizing provenance systems differential analysis thus for debugging and reasoning is a challenging task. This thesis addresses the challenge of using provenance in debugging by developing accurate and scalable methods for differential analysis of system provenance. Our approach emphasizes the importance of knowing the application’s provenance graph structure and embedding this graph structure information within traces to conduct a precise differential analysis …

Essays On Policy Initiatives For Equitable And Fair Distribution Of Benefits Of Information Technology, Roohid Ahmed Syed

USF Tampa Graduate Theses and Dissertations

The impact of Information technology on human lives is beyond measure. Information technology has become so integral to our human lives that we can no longer undermine its societal impact. While there is ample evidence for the societal gains from digital technologies, there is evidence for the inequitable distribution of such gains across society. For example, accelerated digitization of economy has left the digital haven-nots with limited access to education, health care and employment opportunities further deepening the already existing social inequities. Furthermore, increasing implementation of algorithms has created the problem of algorithmic bias across multiple domains including hiring. Though …

Using survey results in Japan and the United States., we construct a self-evolvability variable and confirm unique features that differ from existing measure, and quantitatively analyzed the relationship between self-evolvability, acceptance of new technologies, provision of personal data, and approval or …

Circles Are So Euclidean: Exploring Convex Bodies, Norms, Symmetries, And Isometries Via The Minkowski Functional, Fanni Kertesz Mar 2025

Circles Are So Euclidean: Exploring Convex Bodies, Norms, Symmetries, And Isometries Via The Minkowski Functional, Fanni Kertesz

Undergraduate Theses

In a real vector space, a symmetric convex body containing the origin and compact under the Euclidean norm uniquely defines a norm via the Minkowski functional, where the closed unit ball of this norm is the convex body. This establishes a one-to-one correspondence between convex bodies and norms. The norm derived from the convex body allows for the definition of a metric, enabling the study of isometries within the space. However, the symmetries of the convex body itself do not completely determine the isometries of the associated Minkowski space. Instead, the symmetries of the most symmetric shape a convex body …

Utilizing 24 survey responses and 2 interviews, this study sought to answer the following questions: Do high school class experiences have any impact on students’ community literacies? If they do, do they support or hinder their growth? I analyzed data using a combination of correlational analysis, axial …

How Do We Observe Relational Observables?, Emily Adlam Mar 2025

How Do We Observe Relational Observables?, Emily Adlam

Mathematics, Physics, and Computer Science Faculty Articles and Research

In theories with a diffeomorphism symmetry, such as general relativity and canonical quantum gravity, it is often proposed that the empirical content is encoded in relational observables. But how do relational observables actually make contact with experience? I argue that this question can only be answered by providing a schematization of the observer which is appropriate for the context of a diffeomorphism-invariant theory. I suggest that this may require us to move away from a ‘passive awareness’ conception of consciousness towards a more agential conception, because there is a clear sense in which an embodied agent must experience herself as …
