Detection Of Malicious Content In Json Structured Data Using Multiple Concurrent Anomaly Detection Methods, Brett N. Miller

Master's Theses and Doctoral Dissertations

Web applications and Web services often use a data format known as JavaScript Object Notation (JSON) to exchange information. An attacker can tamper with these exchanges to cause the Web service or application to malfunction in a way that is detrimental to the interests of the owners of the Web application or service. Many such applications or services are involved in processes critical to safety or are vital to business interests. Unfortunately, such critical applications cannot always be relied upon to validate the data sent to them. This creates a need for protection external to the applications themselves. This need …

Effects Of Elevated Pco2 And Irradiance On Growth, Photosynthesis And Calcification In Halimeda Discoidea, K. E. Peach, M. S. Koch, Patricia Blackwelder

Marine & Environmental Sciences Faculty Articles

Ocean acidification (OA) effects on photophysiology and calcification were examined in Halimeda discoidea, a calcifying macroalga that produces tropical reef sediments. Photosynthetic parameters, including maximum photosynthetic rate (Pmax), photosynthetic efficiency (α) and compensating irradiance (Ic) were determined in short-term assays on live thalli after a 10 d exposure to 4 levels of CO2 partial pressures (pCO2; 491, 653, 982 and 1201 µatm) under saturating (300 µmol photons m-2 s-1) and sub-saturating (90 µmol photons m-2 s-1) irradiance in an aquaria study. A Case Of High School Earth And Space Science Education In The Great Plains, Elizabeth Lewis, Jia Lu Feb 2016

A Case Of High School Earth And Space Science Education In The Great Plains, Elizabeth Lewis, Jia Lu

Discipline-Based Education Research Group Speaker Series

While U.S. high school students’ access to Earth and space science (ESS) varies widely from state to state, nationally ESS content is the most neglected area of science education. States are in the process of formally adopting the Next Generation Science Standards, which have been carefully developed and articulated in conjunction with state educational leaders. However, researchers rarely address the challenge with which states, school districts, and teachers must grapple in order to enact ESS courses and concepts. This case study of one Great Plains state asks the questions: (a) How do school districts provide ESS education at the high …

Is He Dead?, Otterbein University Department Of Theatre And Dance Feb 2016

Is He Dead?, Otterbein University Department Of Theatre And Dance

2015-2016 Season

This play was written by Mark Twain in 1898 and first published in print in 2003. The play focuses on a fictional version of the great French painter, Jean-François Millet, as an impoverished artist in Barbizon, France who, with the help of his colleagues, stages his death in order to increase the value of his paintings, and afterwards dresses as a woman to keep his secret safe. Combining elements of burlesque, farce, and social satire, the comedy relies on such devices as cross-dressing, mistaken identities, and romantic deceptions to tell its story, which raises …

750 Gev Diphotons From Closed String States, Luis Anchordoqui, Ignatios Antoniadis, Haim Goldberg, Xing Huang, Dieter Lüst, Tomasz R. Taylor

Publications and Research

We show that low-mass-scale string compactifications, with a generic D-brane configuration that realizes the standard model by open strings, can explain the relatively broad peak in the diphoton invariant mass spectrum at 750GeV recently reported by the ATLAS and CMS Collaborations. Under reasonable assumptions, we demonstrate that the excess could originate from a closed string (possibly axionic) excitation ϕthat has a coupling with gauge kinetic terms. We estimate the ϕ production rate from photon–photon fusion in elastic pp scattering, using the effective photon and narrow width approximations. For string scales above today’slower limit Ms≈7TeV, we can accommodate the diphoton rate …

Predicting Dissolved Lignin Phenol Concentrations In The Coastal Ocean From Chromophoric Dissolved Organic Matter (Cdom) Absorption Coefficients, Cédric G. Fichot, Ronald Benner, Karl Kaiser, Yuan Shen, Rainer M. W. Amon, Hiroshi Ogawa, Chua-Jung Lu Feb 2016

Predicting Dissolved Lignin Phenol Concentrations In The Coastal Ocean From Chromophoric Dissolved Organic Matter (Cdom) Absorption Coefficients, Cédric G. Fichot, Ronald Benner, Karl Kaiser, Yuan Shen, Rainer M. W. Amon, Hiroshi Ogawa, Chua-Jung Lu

Faculty Publications

Dissolved lignin is a well-established biomarker of terrigenous dissolved organic matter (DOM) in the ocean, and a chromophoric component of DOM. Although evidence suggests there is a strong linkage between lignin concentrations and chromophoric dissolved organic matter (CDOM) absorption coefficients in coastal waters, the characteristics of this linkage and the existence of a relationship that is applicable across coastal oceans remain unclear. Here, 421 paired measurements of dissolved lignin concentrations (sum of nine lignin phenols) and CDOM absorption coefficients [ag(λ)] were used to examine their relationship along the river-ocean continuum (0–37 salinity) and across contrasting coastal oceans (sub-tropical, temperate, high-latitude). …

A Search For Brief Optical Flashes Associated With The Seti Target Kic 8462852, P. T. Reynolds, Et Al

Physical Sciences Publications

The F-type star KIC 8462852 has recently been identified as an exceptional target for search for extraterrestrial intelligence (SETI) observations. We describe an analysis methodology for optical SETI, which we have used to analyze nine hours of serendipitous archival observations of KIC 8462852 made with the VERITAS gamma-ray observatory between 2009 and 2015. No evidence of pulsed optical beacons, above a pulse intensity at the Earth of approximately , is found. We also discuss the potential use of imaging atmospheric Cherenkov telescope arrays in searching for extremely short duration optical transients in general.

Three-Loop Cusp Anomalous Dimension And A Conjecture For N Loops, Nikolaos Kidonakis Feb 2016

Three-Loop Cusp Anomalous Dimension And A Conjecture For N Loops, Nikolaos Kidonakis

Faculty Articles

I present analytical expressions for the cusp anomalous dimension in QCD through three loops in terms of elementary functions and ordinary polylogarithms. I observe interesting relations between the results at different loops and provide a conjecture for the n-loop cusp anomalous dimension in terms of the lower-loop results. I also present numerical results and simple approximate formulas for the cusp anomalous dimension relevant to top-quark production.

Comparing Act And Nln Pax Exams For Preadmission To An Associate's Degree Nursing Program, Tiffany Potter

Journal of Interdisciplinary Graduate Research

Outside of using the ACT exam for admission into the University, a pre-admission exam for the School of Nursing has never been required until recently. A correlational study was completed to determine the relationship between the performance on the ACT and NLN-PAX pre-admission for the students entering the School of Nursing program in January 2015. Additional statistics were calculated comparing gender, ethnicity, and student status (transfer vs. non-transfer) to further validate the student’s performance on the ACT and NLN-PAX exams. Mid-term grades of a fundamentals course were compared to the pre-admission exams to predict success in the nursing program. The …

We report results of a wideband search for periodic gravitational waves from isolated neutron stars within the Orion spur towards both the inner and outer regions of our Galaxy. As gravitational waves interact very weakly with matter, the search is unimpeded by dust and concentrations of stars. One search disk (A) is 6.87° in diameter and centered on 20h10m54.71s+33°33′25.29′′, and the other (B) is 7.45° in diameter and centered on 8h35m20.61s-46°49′25.151′′. We explored the frequency range of 50-1500 Hz and frequency derivative from 0 to -5×10-9 Hz/s. A multistage, loosely coherent search program allowed probing more deeply than before in …

Quasi-Molecular Bosonic Complexes-A Pathway To Squid With Controlled Sensitivity, Arghavan Safavi-Naini, Barbara Capogrosso-Sansone, Anatoly Kuklov, Vittorio Penna

Physics

Recent experimental advances in realizing degenerate quantum dipolar gases in optical lattices and the flexibility of experimental setups in attaining various geometries offer the opportunity to explore exotic quantum many-body phases stabilized by anisotropic, long-range dipolar interaction. Moreover, the unprecedented control over the various physical properties of these systems, ranging from the quantum statistics of the particles, to the inter-particle interactions, allow one to engineer novel devices. In this paper, we consider dipolar bosons trapped in a stack of one-dimensional optical lattice layers, previously studied in (Safavi-Naini et al 2014 Phys. Rev. A 90 043604). Building on our prior results, …

Dynamic Simulation, Optimization, And Control Of Flexible Chemical-Looping Combustion Processes, Lu Han Feb 2016

Dynamic Simulation, Optimization, And Control Of Flexible Chemical-Looping Combustion Processes, Lu Han

Doctoral Dissertations

Combustion of hydrocarbon fuels using the concept of chemical-looping combustion (CLC) is a novel approach projected to have higher energy efficiency than conventional CO2 capture technologies. For CLC technologies to become commercially relevant, it is important to optimize the design of CLC reactor systems for high efficiencies for CO2capture and power generation. From an engineering point of view, CLC is a complex system with a large number of candidate materials and reactor configurations that need to be considered for process improvement. In this work, a model-based methodology was proposed as a formal framework to guide in developing …
