We present the discovery of 30 transiting giant planets that were initially detected using data from NASA’s Transiting Exoplanet Survey Satellite mission. These new planets orbit relatively bright (G ≤ 12.5) FGK host stars with orbital periods between 1.6 and 8.2 days, and have radii between 0.9 and 1.7 Jupiter radii. We performed follow-up ground-based photometry, high angular resolution imaging, high-resolution spectroscopy, and radial velocity monitoring for each of these objects to confirm that they are planets and determine their masses and other system parameters. The planets’ masses span more than an order of magnitude (0.17 MJ < M …

A Unified Dnn Weight Compression Framework Using Reweighted Optimization Methods, Mengchen Fan, Tianyun Zhang, Xiaolong Ma, Jiacheng Guo, Zheng Zhan, Et. Al.

Computer Science Faculty Publications

To address the large model sizes and intensive computation requirements of deep neural networks (DNNs), weight pruning techniques have been proposed and generally fall into two categories: static regularization-based pruning and dynamic regularization-based pruning. However, the static method often leads to either complex operations or reduced accuracy, while the dynamic method requires extensive time to adjust parameters to maintain accuracy while achieving effective pruning. In this paper, we propose a unified robustness-aware framework for DNN weight pruning that dynamically updates regularization terms bounded by the designated constraint. This framework can generate both non-structured sparsity and different kinds of structured sparsity, …

Optimizing Object Detection For Remote Monitoring With Owl Ducklink Radios, Colin Ren-Jin Babian Sep 2025

Optimizing Object Detection For Remote Monitoring With Owl Ducklink Radios, Colin Ren-Jin Babian

Electrical Engineering

This project develops an AI powered object detection system integrated with OWL DuckLink radios to enable real time remote monitoring. The system benchmarks multiple AI accelerators using a Raspberry Pi 5 to determine their efficiency in low power, long range communication environments. By evaluating the Raspberry Pi 5 CPU (7.62W, 14.5 camera FPS, 3.8 inference FPS), Raspberry Pi AI Camera with Sony IMX500 (6.45W, 30 camera FPS, 9.2 inference FPS), and Raspberry Pi AI Hat with Hailo-8L chipset (7.80W, 30 camera FPS, >30 inference FPS), this project identifies the most effective combination of hardware and software for edge AI applications. …
