Journal of Pediatric Genetics
This cohort study of 48 unrelated probands with rare monogenic childhood hypotonia was designed to assess the clinical presentations, spectrum of disorders, and utility of exome sequencing in selected cases where preliminary genetic tests did not sufficiently explain the etiology. Clinically 56.3% of the cases appeared to be of peripheral hypotonia, 33.3% cases were of central hypotonia, and remaining 10.4% were mixed hypotonia cases. Exome sequencing was able to provide a diagnosis in 52.1% cases in the entire cohort of rare monogenic childhood hypotonia. Majority (41.6%) of the probands had a clinical diagnosis of congenital myopathy/muscular dystrophy in the cohort …

Nonlinear Analytical Models Of The Seismically Isolated ``Frame-Boiler'' System With Cantilever-Type Hysteresis Dampers, Aleksandr Mikhailovich Anushchenko, Dmitrii Evgenievich Bondarev, Aleksandr Yurievich Schukin
Journal of Sustainable Construction Materials and Technologies
This study shows results of development of the ``frame-boiler'' system with hysteresis dampers analytical model. Hysteresis dampers are used as boiler antiseismic bracing. It is noted that simplified analytical models are necessary at the stage of preliminary iterative calculations, when a CAE-modeling is impractical due to significant time costs. The authors have proposed 2 options of analytical models: 2-mass model and 3-mass model. The differential equations of motion for each model are written below. The results of the calculation for seismic impacts are compared with the finite element model. It is shown that 3-mass model gives good match of results …
Study On Determination Of Optimal Parameters For Shewhart Control Charts And Other Related Methodologies, Sandeep .
Doctoral Theses
Taguchi’s on-line quality control methods attach importance to the reduction of variation of a quality characteristic about an engineering target. The quality characteristic can be nominal-the-best, higher-the-better, or lower-the-better. He introduced the concept of the loss function. The loss incurred to society is impacted by the variation or deviation from the target. The optimal sampling interval advocated by Taguchi in this context is important. However, Taguchi didn’t consider certain parameters like the rate of production, loss incurred due to false alarms, loss incurred due to non-detection of process abnormalities. In our prescribed methodology, these parameters have been considered along with …

A method for achieving a target joint preload can include applying a tightening torque to the second fastener element and measuring that torque as a trial tightening torque. The method can further include applying a loosening torque to the second fastener element and measuring that torque as a trial removal torque. Additionally, the method can include calculating a required tightening torque that is required to be applied to the second fastener element to achieve the target joint preload using only the thread pitch, the trial tightening torque, the trial removal torque, and the target joint preload.

A mathematical task rooted in social and/or political contexts has the potential to engage students in exploring their own real-ities and learning about the realities of others while building their mathematical knowledge. While there are planning and in-structional practices recommended for these types of tasks, no single practice can fully capture the nuances and challenges thatteachers might encounter. Therefore, this study identified dilemmas encountered by a team of mathematics education research-ers while planning a mathematical task rooted in social and/or political contexts. Using qualitative analysis, the researchersidentified three planning dilemmas: (a) what social and/or political goal to establish, (b) how …

In many instances, acquiring a solution for an operator equation by using conventional analytical techniques, even after it has been shown that such a solution exists. One has to know the approximate value of this solution to solve situations like these. In order to do this, the operator equation must first be restructured to take the form of a fixed-point equation (FP). On the FP equation, the most convenient iterative method is used, and the limit of the sequence that is created by this algorithm is, in fact, the value of the FP that is sought for the FP equation, …

Heuristic Weight Initialization For Transfer Learning In Classification Problems, Musulmon Lolaev, Anand Paul, Jeonghong Kim
Heuristic Weight Initialization For Transfer Learning In Classification Problems, Musulmon Lolaev, Anand Paul, Jeonghong Kim
School of Public Health Faculty Publications
Transfer learning is the predominant method for adapting pre-trained models on another task to new domains while preserving their internal architectures and augmenting them with requisite layers in Deep Neural Network models. Training intricate pre-trained models on a sizable dataset requires significant resources to fine-tune hyperparameters carefully. Most existing initialization methods mainly focus on gradient flow-related problems, such as gradient vanishing or exploding, or other existing approaches that require extra models that do not consider our setting, which is more practical. To address these problems, we suggest employing gradient-free heuristic methods to initialize the weights of the final new-added fully …

Snow accumulation on photovoltaic (PV) panels can cause significant energy losses in cold climates. While drone-based monitoring offers a scalable solution, real-world challenges like varying illumination can hinder accurate snow detection. We previously developed a YOLO-based drone system for snow coverage detection using a Fixed Thresholding segmentation method to discriminate snow from the solar panel; however, it struggled in challenging lighting conditions. This work addresses those limitations by presenting a reliable drone-based system to accurately estimate the Snow Coverage Percentage (SCP) over PV panels. The system combines a lightweight YOLOv11n-seg deep learning model for panel detection with an adaptive image …

Mathematical modeling with the help of numerical coding of graphs has been used in different fields of science, especially in chemistry for the studies of molecular structures. A special type of graph invariant called the topological index is the collection of data on algebraic graphs and provides a mathematical way to understand chemical structural features. In chemical graph theory, the topological index is a type of molecular descriptor calculated based on the graph of chemical compounds. Topological indices help us collect information about algebraic graphs and give us a mathematical approach to understand the properties of algebraic structures. With the …

Online sensing plays an important role in advancing modern manufacturing. The real-time sensor signals, which can be stored as high-resolution time series data, contain rich information about the operation status. One of its popular usages is online process monitoring, which can be achieved by effective anomaly detection from the sensor signals. However, most existing approaches either heavily rely on labeled data for training supervised models, or are designed to detect only extreme outliers, thus are ineffective at identifying subtle semantic off-track anomalies to capture where new regimes or unexpected routines start. To address this challenge, we propose an matrix profile-based …

In healthcare, maintaining both the accuracy and privacy of medical diagnoses collaboratively is a significant challenge. To the best of our knowledge, this research proposes the first end-to-end Privacy-Preserving Federated Transfer Learning (PPFTL) framework for 2-D ECG arrhythmia classification. Incorporating Transfer Learning (TL) narrows the gap between the encrypted and non-encrypted framework versions in the training step. It involves the transformation of raw Electrocardiogram (ECG) signals into 2-D ECG grayscale images. The dataset is disseminated after transformation to images and then fed as input into the local models, where MobileNetV2 serves as a feature extractor. The training process for each …

Av-Efficapsnet Based Deep Neural Network Model For Automated Detection Of Hypertensive Retinopathy In Fundus Image, Sowmiya R, Kalpana R
Baghdad Science Journal
Hypertensive Retinopathy (HR), a serious consequence of systemic hypertension, manifests through specific changes in the retinal vasculature observable in fundus images. There might not be any symptoms or complaints at the early stage of systemic hypertension. The complication of the systemic hypertension sets in vital organs of the body including the eyes over time. An automated method for HR detection can help in early detection and enhance diagnosis and management and thus reduce the risk of severe ocular and systemic complications. Subjective evaluation of the retinal images by ophthalmologist is the conventional diagnostic method, which might be inconsistent and time …

One of the key concepts in operations research (OR) is the transportation problem (TP). The transportation problem involves distributing products from several sources to different destinations while minimizing shipping expenses. To achieve minimum transportation costs, the transportation problem is examined in two phases. An initial basic feasible solution (IBFS) is the first phase for achieving the lowest price, with the help of IBFS, one can calculate the optimal solution derived as the second phase. The literature review indicates that the authors developed a novel algorithm for the IBFS, incorporating several mathematical tools and some new models yet possessing certain limitations. …

Laplacian Energy And Eccentricity Based Energy For Cross Monic Zero Divisor Graph Associated With Commutative Rings, Sarathy Raja, Ravi Sankar Jeyaraj
Baghdad Science Journal
For a commutative ring, a cross monic zero divisor graph is discussed, whose vertices are nonzero zero divisors of the commutative ring, then the two vertices x and y are adjacent if and only if xy = 0. Sum of absolute auxiliary eigenvalues of Laplacian matrix of a simple graph is known as Laplacian energy of a simple graph. Eccentricity sum matrix of a graph is a positive matrix, whose entries are sum of the eccentricities of two vertices and 0 for diagonals of the eccentricity sum matrix. Then the sum of absolute eigenvalues of eccentricity sum matrix is known …

A Numerical Approach To Time-Space Fractional Stochastic Diffusion Equation, Archana Mourya, Kalyanrao Takale, Shrikisan Gaikwad
Baghdad Science Journal
The primary objective of this paper is to propose a Crank-Nicolson scheme tailored to analyze a time-space fractional stochastic diffusion equation subject to additive noise. Using the Caputo definition for time fractional derivatives and the shifted Grunwald-Letnikov definition for space fractional derivatives, a fractional order Crank-Nicolson finite difference scheme is devised to obtain a numerical solution. Considerable attention has been paid to examining the stability and convergence properties of this fractional order Crank-Nicolson method. To validate the effectiveness of the developed method, a comprehensive investigation using a test problem is conducted to assess its accuracy. The study harnesses the power …

The present robot planning methods pay no attention to the impact of the robot's size and the space it occupies in the environment on path planning. This paper presents a centralized hybrid method to plan optimal paths for multiple robotic long vehicles (RLVs) competing with each other to reach one common goal, taking into account the space that must be available to the RLV at each step to avoid narrow spaces that are too small to pass through. The environment analysis for each RLV is improved by assigning constant weight to the obstacles and calculating two new parameters: safety (SF) …

I introduce the Universal Heatmap Law of Computational Information, a simple mathematical expression that describes how symbolic heat changes over time. The law combines reinforcement, decay, cooling, and access into a single deterministic relation:
Hi(t)=max{0,⌊γHi(t−1)⌋+αxi(t)−β}.
What makes this law important is its universality: it does not belong to any single field but can be applied wherever information evolves through repeated use and natural fading. By presenting it in this disclosure, I aim to establish clear prior art and to place the Heatmap Theory of Computational Information as a foundation that future researchers can build on across different areas of …

Reading Beyond Research Results: The Hidden Curriculum In A College And Urban High Schools Partnership, Shirley Mthethwa-Sommers
Journal of Community Engagement and Higher Education
The article draws from a study of a Gear Up partnership between a predominantly white middle class college and four urban high schools with a majority of low-income students of color. Teacher education candidates participated in community engagement through Gear Up at four urban high schools. The study shows that both college and high school students benefited from the partnership. However, employing internal and anticolonial theoretical lenses reveals the hidden curriculum that the positive results attained from the partnership may serve to buttress the myth of dominant culture’s supremacy.
