Anti-Holistic Algorithms, Itay Ravid Nov 2025

Anti-Holistic Algorithms, Itay Ravid

Vanderbilt Law Review

This Article presents a critical tension in modern criminal justice between holistic criminal justice aspirations and algorithmic governance: whether the holistic rehabilitation and reintegration project can survive technological determinism. As criminal legal systems embrace algorithmic risk assessment tools as solutions to address recidivism, this Article reveals a profound epistemological concern: the fundamental incompatibility between viewing offenders as whole persons capable of transformation and reducing them to statistical probabilities within computational matrices. By doing so, it demonstrates how algorithmic mediation fundamentally alters and potentially destroys the holistic message itself.

In establishing this argument, the Article advances in two stages. It first …

Three-Dimensional Cfd Analyses Of Natural Circulation In A Pressurized Water Reactor During A Loss Of Coolant Accident, Arad Dehestany Nov 2025

Three-Dimensional Cfd Analyses Of Natural Circulation In A Pressurized Water Reactor During A Loss Of Coolant Accident, Arad Dehestany

Theses

In this research, ANSYS FLUENT simulations will be performed on natural circulation cooling performance during loss of coolant accident on the semi-scale Mod-2A geometry. Natural circulation experiments were performed in the semi-scale Mod-2A test facility which is a small-scale model of the primary system of a four-loop PWR nuclear power generating plant. The CFD results are validated using the tests done in the facility. The scope of the research is to understand the flow, temperature distribution, inventory coolant losses, and pressure drop in the system. These findings can provide insights into the performance of such systems and identify potential improvements …

Ecophysiological Benefits Of Industrial Organic Wastes On Alfalfa Yield And Stress Mitigation In Saline Soils, Shugao Fan, Zhuanzhuan Ma, Jiawei Wu, Tianhui Yang, Jincheng Hao, Shumei Chen, Xutong Hu, Ying Zhao Nov 2025

Ecophysiological Benefits Of Industrial Organic Wastes On Alfalfa Yield And Stress Mitigation In Saline Soils, Shugao Fan, Zhuanzhuan Ma, Jiawei Wu, Tianhui Yang, Jincheng Hao, Shumei Chen, Xutong Hu, Ying Zhao

School of Mathematical & Statistical Sciences Faculty Publications

Rising soil salinity and water scarcity demand sustainable solutions to maintain crop productivity. This study evaluated four agro-industrial organic amendments—fish emulsion, neem cake, coffee grounds, and seaweed extract on alfalfa (Medicago sativa) under combined salinity and drought stress, assessing their effects on soil respiration, plant physiology, and yield. Soil CO₂ efflux varied significantly among treatments: coffee grounds induced the highest microbial activity (6.2 μmol m⁻² s⁻¹), suggesting rapid decomposition, while neem cake exhibited stable emissions (3.8 μmol m⁻² s⁻¹), indicating slower organic matter turnover. Fish emulsion showed intermediate dynamics, peaking at 4.8 μmol m⁻² s⁻¹ by week 4, …

Paclobutrazol Enhances Tall Fescue Salt Tolerance Via Physiological And Root System Architecture Modulation, Shugao Fan, Xindi Sun, Guohao Liang, Zhuanzhuan Ma, Jincheng Hao, Jiawei Wu, Ying Zhao Nov 2025

Paclobutrazol Enhances Tall Fescue Salt Tolerance Via Physiological And Root System Architecture Modulation, Shugao Fan, Xindi Sun, Guohao Liang, Zhuanzhuan Ma, Jincheng Hao, Jiawei Wu, Ying Zhao

School of Mathematical & Statistical Sciences Faculty Publications

Background: Salinity represents a major global constraint on crop productivity. Promoting the cultivation of tall fescue in saline environments offers not only nutritional advantages for livestock but also enhances its potential for ornamental use. In this mesocosm study, we examined the effects of paclobutrazol (PBZ) on tall fescue performance under salt stress, focusing on key physiological traits to evaluate salt tolerance.

Results: Under high salt stress, paclobutrazol application increased the total number of lateral roots by 85%, from 18.39 to 34.04, and widened their growth angle by 24%, from 24.10° to 29.88°, fundamentally enhancing topsoil exploration. This reconfigured root system …

The Effect Of Perceived Principal Leadership Styles And School Type On Elementary Teacher Self-Efficacy, Karen M. Gonzalez Nov 2025

The Effect Of Perceived Principal Leadership Styles And School Type On Elementary Teacher Self-Efficacy, Karen M. Gonzalez

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

The purpose of this study was to explore the effect of perceived principal leadership styles and school type on elementary teachers’ self-efficacy. The study examined two research questions. The first examined differences between teachers’ self-efficacy in Title 1 and non-Title 1 schools, and the second examined differences in teacher self-efficacy and perceived principal leadership styles (authoritarian, democratic, and laissez-faire). The convenience sample included 129 elementary teachers from social media teacher groups that taught in various Title 1 and non-Title 1 school districts. I used a quantitative, causal-comparative method to collect data and survey questionnaires that identified trends in leadership styles …
