New Structures Of Golden Type On The Tangent Bundle, Simona-Luiza Druta-Romaniuc, Cristina-Elena Hretcanu, Aydin Gezer

Turkish Journal of Mathematics

The aim of our paper is to prove the existence of some types of almost (α, p)–golden structures, obtained as general natural lifts of the Riemannian metric from the base manifold M to the total space TM of the tangent bundle. We show that TM, endowed with a general natural almost (α, p)–golden structure (which is a generalisation of the golden structure) and with a general natural metric, is an almost (α, p)–golden Riemannian manifold if and only if the function coefficients of the almost (α, p)–golden structure are related to …

Monotone Positive Solutions Of Impulsive Differential Equations Asymptotic To Nonprincipal Solutions, Si̇bel Doğru Akgöl, Ağacik Zafer

Turkish Journal of Mathematics

This study investigates the asymptotic behavior of monotone positive solutions for a general class of nonlinear second-order impulsive differential equations. By employing the principal and nonprincipal solutions of the associated homogeneous equation, we establish the existence of a monotone positive solution asymptotic to a nonprincipal solution at infinity. To achieve this, we also prove a compactness criterion for an effective use of Schauder’s fixed-point theorem. Under suitable conditions, similarly to the classical case, it is demonstrated that a monotone positive solution asymptotic to a nonprincipal solution exists. A concrete example is given to illustrate the results.

Likelihoods For Stochastic Gravitational Wave Background Data Analysis, Gabriele Franciolini, Mauro Pieroni, Angelo Ricciardone, Joseph D. Romano Nov 2025

Likelihoods For Stochastic Gravitational Wave Background Data Analysis, Gabriele Franciolini, Mauro Pieroni, Angelo Ricciardone, Joseph D. Romano

Physics & Astronomy Faculty Publications

We present a systematic study of likelihood functions used for stochastic gravitational wave background (SGWB) searches. By dividing the data into many short segments, one customarily takes advantage of the central limit theorem to justify a Gaussian cross-correlation likelihood. We show, with a hierarchy of ever more realistic examples—beginning with a single frequency bin and one detector, and then moving to two and three detectors with white and colored signal and noise—that approximating the exact Whittle likelihood by various Gaussian alternatives can induce systematic biases in the estimation of the SGWB parameters. We derive several approximations for the full likelihood …

Geometric Mean Of Conformal Radii For Compact Sets Contained In A Simply Connected Domain, Neranjan Marasinghe Nov 2025

Geometric Mean Of Conformal Radii For Compact Sets Contained In A Simply Connected Domain, Neranjan Marasinghe

Analysis Seminar

The well known results by G. Pólya and G. Szegő assert that the disk has the largest conformal radius among all simply connected domains of a fixed area and, the equilateral triangle and square have the largest conformal radii among all triangles with a given area and among all quadrilaterals with a given area, respectively. In this talk, I will discuss three theorems that extend these results to geometric mean of conformal radii over compact subsets with prescribed positive area contained in a simply connected domain of a given area, in a triangle of a given area, and in a …

Cryptocurrencies And Financial Crimes: The Role Of Decentralized Cryptocurrency In Facilitating Money Laundering And The Challenges Posed On Anti–Money Laundering Regulations, Jeffry A. Collins

University of Miami Business Law Review

This research examines the role of decentralized cryptocurrencies in facilitating money laundering and the challenges they pose to Anti–Money Laundering (AML) regulations through literature review and regulatory analysis. The study reveals that the decentralized, anonymous, and borderless nature of cryptocurrency enables illicit activities via cryptocurrency ATMs, mixing services, and decentralized exchanges (DEXs). For over a decade, the same regulatory problems persist today as were present at the inception of cryptocurrencies. Current AML frameworks, such as the Bank Secrecy Act and the Money Laundering Control Act, are inadequate for this decentralized ecosystem. The analysis critiques the fragmented efforts of U.S. regulatory …

Finding Law When There Is None: An Analysis Of Litigation Concerning Non–Fungible Tokens (Nfts), Shelby T. Roberts, O. Hayden Griffin, Iii

University of Miami Business Law Review

The development of new technologies tends to give rise to the same quandary: how can these technologies flourish while also protecting citizens from any collateral consequences? How much latitude and freedom should innovators be given in pursuing these technologies is often debated. Non–fungible tokens (NFTs) are one of several products that utilize blockchain technology. NFTs have been hailed by some as the future of commerce while others have derided NFTs as a scam–ridden fad. With virtually no legislation or regulations specifically designed to govern NFTs, a content analysis of litigation involving NFTs was conducted as an effort to help determine …

Sigma-Hole-Supported Interactions In Complexes Of Group 5 Oxyhalides (Mox3) With Insights For Their Extended Solids, Donovan Hoilette Jr., Gabriel F. Stewart, Kelling J. Donald

Chemistry Faculty Publications

The existence and nature of sigma hole type interactions in inorganic extended solids remain largely unexamined, even though the influence of such interactions for heteroorganic compounds is well known. The series of group 5 MOX3oxyhalides are intriguing in this regard since several of the known crystal structures are molecular solids with highly polarized M centers. We examine computationally the bonding in the isolated MOX3 molecules and their smallest clusters (MOX3)nwhere M = V, Nb, and Ta, and X = H, F, Cl, Br, and I. That investigation provides us with substantial evidence, based …

Linear Operators With Two Invariant Subspaces, David Snyder Nov 2025

Linear Operators With Two Invariant Subspaces, David Snyder

Electronic Theses and Dissertations 2020 - Present

Let k be a field and n ∈ N. We consider the quadruples (V, U’, U”, T) where V is a finite-dimensional k-vector space, U’ and U” are subspaces of V , and T : V → V is a linear operator with Tn = 0, satisfying T(U’) ⊆ U’ and T(U”) ⊆ U”. We say U’ and U” are invariant under T and T acts nilpotently on V with nilpotent index n. These systems of quadruples form a category with the Krull-Remak-Schmidt property. Thus, classification is reduced to the classification of indecomposable systems.

By translating a seemingly intractable linear …

The Interrogation Of An Accountability System Blind To Inequities, Deartis Barber Nov 2025

The Interrogation Of An Accountability System Blind To Inequities, Deartis Barber

Electronic Theses and Dissertations Archive

This dissertation examines the geography of educational inequality in Shelby County, Tennessee, arguing that where students live and attend school is not random but the outcome of historical, socioeconomic, and political forces that shape access to opportunity. Using secondary data from state, federal, and U.S. Census sources, the study employs tract-level stepwise linear regression and Geographic Information System (GIS) mapping to investigate whether “place is destiny” for public school students. Results reveal a powerful and persistent relationship between socioeconomic need and educational outcomes. The Socioeconomic Need Index (SNI) is the strongest predictor of academic underperformance, chronic absenteeism, and lower accountability …

Dendritic Inhibition Effects In Memory Retrieval Of A Neuromorphic Microcircuit Model Of The Rat Hippocampus, Nikolaos Andreakos, Vassilis Cutsuridis

School of Engineering, Computing and Mathematics

Background: Studies have shown that input comparison in the hippocampus between the Schaffer collateral (SC) input in apical dendrites and the perforant path (PP) input in the apical tufts dramatically changes the activity of pyramidal cells (PCs). Equally, dendritic inhibition was shown to control PC activity by minimizing the depolarizing signals in their dendritic trees, controlling the synaptic integration time window, and ensuring temporal firing precision. Objectives: We computationally investigated the diverse roles of inhibitory synapses on the PC dendritic arbors of a CA1 microcircuit model in mnemonic retrieval during the co-occurrence of SC and PP inputs. Results: Our study …
