Privacy-Preserving Data Sharing For Learnable Encryption Artificial Intelligence In E-Health, Al Amin Dec 2025

Privacy-Preserving Data Sharing For Learnable Encryption Artificial Intelligence In E-Health, Al Amin

Tennessee State University Alumni Theses and Dissertations

Healthcare AI requires large datasets for clinical-grade performance, yet privacy regulations prevent direct inter-institutional data sharing. While traditional federated learning (FL) enables collaborative training without centralizing data, it suffers from four critical limitations: accuracy degradation, gradient leakage vulnerabilities, high communication costs, and limited interpretability. Accordingly, the overarching research goal is to design a privacy-first FL framework for e-health that preserves clinical-grade accuracy on obfuscated data while substantially reducing information leakage, minimizing communication overhead, and enabling interpretable decision support without sharing weights, gradients, or raw pixels. This thesis systematically addresses these challenges through a three-method framework that progressively enhances privacy, efficiency, …

A Fault Tolerant Honeybee Behaviour Load Balancing Algorithm, Charmaine Adegbite Dec 2025

A Fault Tolerant Honeybee Behaviour Load Balancing Algorithm, Charmaine Adegbite

Tennessee State University Alumni Theses and Dissertations

Cloud computing enables flexible, scalable access to virtualised infrastructure but remains challenged by maintaining performance in fault-prone environments. Faults such as virtual machine failures can degrade task allocation and system reliability. However, traditional load balancing algorithms and bio-inspired strategies, including the Honeybee Behaviour Load Balancing algorithm, assume fault-free conditions. This thesis introduces a Fault-Tolerant Honeybee Behaviour Load Balancing algorithm that enhances the original Honeybee Behaviour Load Balancing algorithm by integrating fault detection. The proposed algorithm monitors the health of VMs and dynamically reallocates workloads when faults are detected which improves stability and reliability. The proposed fault tolerant algorithm was implemented …

Macroscopic And In-Situ Atr-Ftir Spectroscopic Studies Of Metformin Adsorption On Soil, Maheen Mehnaz

Tennessee State University Alumni Theses and Dissertations

Emerging contaminants might pose serious threats to the soil and water environment. Metformin, an emerging micropollutant, is one of the most widely used drugs for type-2 diabetes treatment. However, its waste disposal through human excretion is causing environmental concern to the soil and water environment. Yet, knowledge about the interaction mechanism of metformin with soil remains very limited. In this study, we evaluated metformin adsorption mechanisms on model oxide minerals (gibbsite, hematite) and two Tennessee soils (Milan Loring soil and Cheatham County soil) and in the presence of soil micronutrient (molybdenum) using in situ attenuated total reflectance Fourier transform infrared …

The problem was teacher attrition was a pressing problem in the United States. The National Center for Education Statistics (2023) reported that 40% to 50% of teachers exited the profession within 5 years of commencing their careers which influenced the quality and consistency of education provided to rural students. The purpose was to explore how teachers felt about remaining on the job in rural classrooms in Southern Middle Tennessee. There was little research that investigated these teachers’ experiences regarding remaining in the profession. The study was guided by a basic qualitative design (Quick, 2024). The sample was six teachers selected …

The Impact Of Teacher Effectiveness Factors On Student Achievement: A Case Study, Renita Joy Perkins Dec 2025

The Impact Of Teacher Effectiveness Factors On Student Achievement: A Case Study, Renita Joy Perkins

Tennessee State University Alumni Theses and Dissertations

This quantitative, correlational study examined the relationship between teacher, evaluation scores and student achievement using Tennessee's Educator Acceleration Model (TEAM) evaluation system at Spencer Elementary School in rural Van Buren County. The study analyzed data from nine teachers across grades 3-5 and 150 students, investigating correlations between TEAM evaluation scores, Level of Effectiveness (LOE) ratings, and student performance on Tennessee Ready assessments in mathematics, English Language Arts, and science. Key findings revealed a counterintuitive experience-performance paradox: while teacher years of experience positively correlated with evaluation scores (r=.422, p<.001) and LOE ratings (r=.132, p=.024), it negatively correlated with student English Language Arts achievement (r=- .174, p=.039). The study demonstrated strong internal consistency within the TEAM evaluation system, with significant correlations between LOE scores and teacher evaluation ratings (r=.375, p<.001). However, only weak correlations emerged between teacher evaluation scores and student achievement outcomes, with a slight positive relationship found only in English Language Arts (r=.165, p=.049). The research revealed robust cross-subject correlations in student achievement (r=.706, p<.001), suggesting that effective teaching impacts learning holistically rather than in subject specific ways. These findings challenge assumptions about the predictive validity of observation-based evaluation systems and highlight the complexity of measuring teaching effectiveness. Implications for educational leaders include reconsidering the relationship between teacher experience and effectiveness, implementing differentiated professional development based on evaluation data rather than years of service, and developing more nuanced approaches to using evaluation systems that integrate multiple measures of teacher impact on student learning outcomes.

In-Situ Investigations Of Calcium-Magnesium-Aluminosilicates (Cmas) Infiltration Effects On Thermal Barrier Coatings Under Extreme Environments Replicating Jet Engines, Zachary Stein Dec 2025

In-Situ Investigations Of Calcium-Magnesium-Aluminosilicates (Cmas) Infiltration Effects On Thermal Barrier Coatings Under Extreme Environments Replicating Jet Engines, Zachary Stein

Doctoral Dissertations and Master's Theses

Calcium-magnesium-aluminosilicate (CMAS) particulates, such as sand or volcanic ash, are ingested by gas turbine jet engines during operation. When operating within high abundance regions, these particulates negatively interact and degrade the high temperature thermal barrier coatings (TBC) protecting underlying superalloy turbine blades vital to engine operation. These CMAS particulates melt within the engine and infiltrate into the ceramic coatings. In electron-beam physical vapor deposited (EB-PVD) TBCs, the CMAS within the intercolumnar gaps stiffens the coatings and causes thermomechanical induced high stress concentrations, risking crack formation. While molten, the CMAS thermochemically alters and destabilizes the coating, also risking coating failure. Premature, …

Development Of Microcrystalline Tests For Fentanyl, Clonazepam, And Diazepam Identification, Karis French

Honors Projects

Microcrystalline tests are chemical tests that involve the mixing of a substance with a specific reagent resulting in the formation of a crystal structure. Currently, microcrystalline tests are used as presumptive tests in forensic drug chemistry laboratories to provide the suspected identity of unknown substances. There is, however, a limited amount of research on this use of microcrystalline structures. Additionally, this existing research is outdated and does not include some of the newer commonly encountered controlled substances including fentanyl, clonazepam, and diazepam. This literature-based review attempts to identify reagents that could be used in microcrystalline tests for the identification of …

How “Cooling Off” Periods Endanger The Vulnerable: A 50-State Study Of Mandatory Separation Periods In No-Fault Divorce, Melody Mostow Dec 2025

How “Cooling Off” Periods Endanger The Vulnerable: A 50-State Study Of Mandatory Separation Periods In No-Fault Divorce, Melody Mostow

Northwestern Journal of Law & Social Policy

Mandatory separation periods in no-fault divorce neither advance their stated policy goals nor comport with contemporary understandings of marital dynamics, domestic abuse, or child welfare. Although mandatory separation periods are held out as tools to promote reconciliation and deter impulsive divorces, such rationales lack empirical support. Because family law in the United States is determined at the state level, this Article examines state laws that require couples to live apart in varying restrictive capacities before obtaining a no-fault divorce. To that end, this Article presents the first comprehensive 50-state study of such requirements. Research demonstrates that these laws do not …

A Sedimentary Source Of Rare Earth Elements In The North Atlantic, Rylee D. Lindner Dec 2025

A Sedimentary Source Of Rare Earth Elements In The North Atlantic, Rylee D. Lindner

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

Individually and as a series, the Rare Earth Elements (REEs) are powerful geochemical tracers of environmental processes. However, ambiguities in the oceanic budgets of the REEs hamper their application. Growing evidence suggests a sedimentary benthic flux via the pore water is the major source of REEs to the ocean, with extrapolated estimates of this flux being equivalent in magnitude to that “missing” from modern budgets. However, existing pore water REE data are available from only a few locations globally with no representative dataset from the open North Atlantic. This data scarcity limits our ability to constrain flux estimates and understand …

Biology, Chemistry, and Environmental Sciences Faculty Articles and Research

The ultrafast photophysics of many isomerizing molecules involves subpicosecond formation of a twisted hot ground state, which transfers energy to the environment through vibrational relaxation (cooling) over several picoseconds. In time-resolved infrared (TR-IR) spectroscopy, hot ground state transients show frequency shifts and band reshapings, which cannot be described through kinetic models that assume static spectral functions. We report a simple anharmonic cascade framework, which uses a single adjustable parameter associated with scaling the probability of vibrational energy transfer to the environment, for describing hot ground state cooling (HGSC) in TR-IR spectroscopy. The model is demonstrated against measurements on the cyan …

Designing A Qi Initiative: Preoperative Bathing In The Ed For Adult Hip Fracture Patients, Mihyun Jang, Susan Maynard, Sheri Matter, Andrea Sillner Dec 2025

Designing A Qi Initiative: Preoperative Bathing In The Ed For Adult Hip Fracture Patients, Mihyun Jang, Susan Maynard, Sheri Matter, Andrea Sillner

Biennial Convention (CONV)

Surgical site infections (SSIs) following hip fracture surgeries in adults are severe complications that increase morbidity, mortality, and healthcare costs. Preoperative bathing, particularly with chlorhexidine gluconate (CHG), reduces the risk of surgical site infection after hip fracture surgery by decontaminating skin flora, such as Staphylococcus aureus. Compliance with preoperative bathing protocols remains low, especially among adult patients admitted through emergency departments. To address the gap in preoperative bathing compliance, a quality improvement initiative will implement a preoperative bathing protocol using CHG wipes in the emergency department for adult hip fracture patients. Currently, there is a lack of evidence regarding the …

Alzheimer’s Disease (AD) is one of the most commonly seen neurodegenerative disorders, where early detection of its biomarkers is crucial for effective management. Conventional diagnostic methods are often expensive, time-consuming, and highly complex, which highlights an urgent need for point-of-care biosensing technology. In this work, we developed assays on three-dimensional (3D) graphene foam electrodes by functionalising them with a 1-Pyrenebutyric acid N-hydroxysuccinimide ester (Pyr-NHS) to enable effective antibody immobilisation for the detection of amyloid beta peptides (Aβ42 and Aβ40), key biomarkers for AD. Pyr-NHS linkers were used for stable functionalisation, followed by binding with Aβ42 and Aβ40 antibodies, and then …
