Albumin-Binding Domains In Therapeutic Protein Engineering: A Structural And Computational Perspective On Rational Design, Matthew Argyle, Dallin M. Chipman, Anna Claire Woolley, Bradley C. Bundy, Dennis Della Corte

Faculty Publications

Therapeutic proteins face a critical pharmacokinetic challenge: rapid clearance from circulation limits their clinical efficacy. Albumin-binding domains (ABDs) offer an elegant solution by enabling therapeutic proteins to “hitchhike” on serum albumin’s favorable 19-day half-life through FcRn-mediated recycling. Clinical validation through approved therapeutics like ozoralizumab demonstrates the success of this approach, with preclinical studies showing fusion to an ABD extended half-life to 18 days. This review provides an analysis of ABD-fusion protein design, integrating structural biology, computational prediction, and rational engineering principles. We catalog the major classes of albumin-binding modalities, including bacterial three-helix bundle domains, engineered peptides, antibody-derived binders, and alternative …

Comprehensive Framework For Artificial Intelligence Model Testing: Integrated Validation Methodologies, Global Regulatory Compliance, And Enterprise Implementation Strategies For 25 Years, Ramkumar Bharathan

Defensive Publications Series

The proliferation of artificial intelligence systems across critical infrastructure necessitates a paradigm shift from traditional software quality assurance toward probabilistic validation methodologies. This paper presents a comprehensive framework for AI model testing that synthesizes regulatory requirements across multiple jurisdictions—including the EU AI Act (Regulation 2024/1689), NIST AI Risk Management Framework 2.0, Federal Reserve SR 11-7, Colorado AI Act, NYC Local Law 144, and sector-specific regulations—into an integrated validation architecture applicable across financial services, healthcare, insurance, manufacturing, and retail sectors.

The framework encompasses twelve distinct testing dimensions: functional correctness, performance benchmarking, bias and fairness assessment, robustness and adversarial resilience, explainability validation, …

Prismatic Subspace Projection For Semantic Control Of Vector Embeddings, Thomas Joseph Duerig, Yichang Chen, Jiří Iša Feb 2026

Prismatic Subspace Projection For Semantic Control Of Vector Embeddings, Thomas Joseph Duerig, Yichang Chen, Jiří Iša

Defensive Publications Series

Vector search effectiveness may be reduced by semantic mismatches where nuisance dimensions, such as formality or complexity, can degrade retrieval relevance. Addressing these dimensions could involve resource-intensive model retraining. Systems and methods are described for dynamically modifying vector embeddings using prisms, which can be vector representations of certain semantic concepts. For example, a prism can be calculated from the vector difference between embeddings of two data items that differ primarily along a given semantic axis. To refine a search, a query or document embedding can be modified through a geometric projection into a subspace orthogonal to a prism vector. This …

Quantitative Importance Attribution For Source Documents In Generative Models, N/A

Defensive Publications Series

Generative models that utilize external information sources may not include mechanisms to quantitatively measure the contribution of each source document to a generated output. Disclosed are systems and methods for quantitatively attributing source importance. A technique can involve calculating numerical importance scores for constituent parts of a model's output, for instance, by analyzing internal model attention scores or semantic similarity to a user prompt. A remapping process then can trace these scored parts back to their original source documents to assign an overall importance score to each source. This quantitative attribution data can provide a basis for feedback mechanisms for …

Beyond The Chessboard: How Chess Participation Can Improve Cognitive Performance, Siddiquee Siyam Feb 2026

Beyond The Chessboard: How Chess Participation Can Improve Cognitive Performance, Siddiquee Siyam

CAFE Symposium 2026

When I arrived at Gettysburg College, it was quite disappointing to me as a chess enthusiast that there was no platform to unite all players on campus. I took the initiative to address this issue by establishing the Gettysburg College Chess Federation (GCCF), only to realize that the GCCF’s activities could also be expanded to address a broader issue. With my first-year seminar (FYS) focusing on changemaking, I decided to turn my passion into my class project, implementing concrete work beyond the theoretical arena to not only promote chess on campus but also to start a teaching program with K-6 …

Dynamic Soliton Solutions And Stability Analysis Of The (2+1)-Dimensional Wazwaz Kaur Boussinesq Equation Using An Efficient Method, Nivan Mohamed Elsonbaty, Hamdy Mohamed Ahmed, Niveen Mohamed Badra, Wafaa B. Rabie Feb 2026

Dynamic Soliton Solutions And Stability Analysis Of The (2+1)-Dimensional Wazwaz Kaur Boussinesq Equation Using An Efficient Method, Nivan Mohamed Elsonbaty, Hamdy Mohamed Ahmed, Niveen Mohamed Badra, Wafaa B. Rabie

Basic Science Engineering

This paper presents the first application of the Modified Extended Direct Algebraic (MEDA) method to the (2+1)-dimensional Wazwaz-Kaur-Boussinesq equation, a model governing wave dynamics in shallow waters. The approach successfully uncovers previously unreported classes of exact solutions, including combo dark–singular solitons and Jacobi elliptic function solutions. The spectrum of obtained solutions–which also encompasses bright, dark, and singular solitons, as well as hyperbolic, periodic, exponential, and rational functions–reveals rich and complex soliton dynamics. A comprehensive stability analysis confirms the robustness of these solutions under perturbation. These results significantly advance the understanding of wave propagation in nonlinear systems, providing valuable insights for …

Authentication Of Art, Herbert I. Lazerow Feb 2026

Authentication Of Art, Herbert I. Lazerow

Cleveland State Law Review

The authentication of items permeates our law and our markets. While it is important for many consumer goods, authentication is crucial for artworks and artifacts where the value difference between the authentic and the inauthentic is huge. The question is raised most frequently in conflicts between buyer and seller of art where it is claimed that a warranty was breached, or between the owner of artwork and an authenticator where the claim sounds in tort. It also arises in any situation where the value of the art is important, such as tax or antitrust. Authentication of artwork can be difficult …

Optimization Of Lightning Impulse Grounding Performance Of Claw-Shaped Tower Grounding Device, Zhanglei Chen, Tingfang Yang, Chao Zhuo, Gaojia Li, Minghao Feng, Xiong Li Feb 2026

Optimization Of Lightning Impulse Grounding Performance Of Claw-Shaped Tower Grounding Device, Zhanglei Chen, Tingfang Yang, Chao Zhuo, Gaojia Li, Minghao Feng, Xiong Li

Journal of Electric Power Science and Technology

Transmission line towers are prone to lightning strikes. When the grounding resistance of a tower is too high, the fault rate of the line is increased. To effectively reduce the lightning impulse grounding resistance of typical grounding devices and guide the grounding design of transmission line towers, a composite grounding device consisting of a typical tower foundation combined with a claw-shaped grounding body is proposed. A model of the claw-shaped grounding device is established using CDEGS software, and its time-domain impulse response characteristics are analyzed while considering the soil spark effect. Quantitative comparisons of the impulse grounding resistance of the …

Improving Ground Cover Crop Fractional Vegetation Mapping Via Causality-Based Deep Representation Learning, Atif Latif, Masoumeh Hashemi, Matt Yost, Somayeh Esmaeili, Xiaojun Qi

Computer Science Student Research

Semantic segmentation and deep learning methods have rarely been applied to fractional vegetation cover (FVC) segmentation tasks due to the lack of publicly available datasets for training deep learning models. FVC is a key indicator for assessing vegetation distribution, crop density, and crop responses to water availability and fertilizer application, yet conventional field-based measurement methods are time consuming, costly, labor intensive, and may lack the accuracy required for critical applications such as drought stress evaluation and water productivity. In this paper, we introduced causality-based deep learning techniques for FVC segmentation on a publicly available RGB dataset that consists of four …

Balancing Acts: Gender Parity Law And Cultural Boundaries In Senegal, Seulgie Lim Feb 2026

Balancing Acts: Gender Parity Law And Cultural Boundaries In Senegal, Seulgie Lim

All Faculty Scholarship

This article investigates the intersection of global gender equality norms with local contexts, focusing on Senegal’s implementation of the 2010 gender parity law. Despite the global trend towards electoral gender quotas, the effectiveness and societal acceptance of these measures vary significantly. Through a critical examination of existing literature on gender quotas and an analysis of the parity law’s reception in Senegal, this article explores the nuanced dynamics between legislative measures and societal norms. It argues that, while gender quotas can enhance women’s visibility in politics, deeply ingrained cultural and religious norms may undermine the more substantive impact of such legislated …

Resilient Grid Architectures For High Renewable Penetration: Electrical Engineering Strategies For 2030 And Beyond, Ehab Bayoumi Feb 2026

Resilient Grid Architectures For High Renewable Penetration: Electrical Engineering Strategies For 2030 And Beyond, Ehab Bayoumi

Mechanical Engineering

The global shift toward decarbonized power systems is driving unprecedented penetration of variable renewable energy sources, especially wind and solar PV. Legacy grid architectures, built around centralized, dispatchable synchronous generation, are ill-suited to manage the bidirectional power flows, reduced inertia, and new stability constraints introduced by inverter-based resources. Existing research offers deep but fragmented insights into individual elements of this transition, such as advanced power electronics, microgrids, or market design, but rarely integrates them into a coherent architectural vision for resilient, high-renewable grids. This review closes that gap by synthesizing technical, architectural, and institutional perspectives into a unified framework for …

Nonenzymatic Glucose Biosensor Based On Selective Reduction Of Silver Ions, Maryam Sarlak, Shankar B. Rananavare Feb 2026

Nonenzymatic Glucose Biosensor Based On Selective Reduction Of Silver Ions, Maryam Sarlak, Shankar B. Rananavare

Chemistry Faculty Publications and Presentations

A nonenzymatic conductivity-based glucose biosensor, reported here, designed for potential noninvasive measurement in accessible biofluids such as saliva, sweat, and tears. The sensor exploits a classic Tollens’ silvering process that deposits metallic silver on a sensitized surface via a quantitative, selective reduction of silver ions by glucose. Of the two surface sensitization methods used, the self-assembled bifunctional thiol/silane surfactant yields a more stable and sensitive sensor than tin(II) chloride. The conductometric sensor consists of two spiral interdigitated silver electrodes fabricated by lithography and wet etching. The sensor impedance changes after selective metallic silver deposition between the electrodes. The sensor exhibits …

Curriculum Materials Cataloged For Browsing, Michelle Emanuel Feb 2026

Curriculum Materials Cataloged For Browsing, Michelle Emanuel

Mississippi Libraries

When the University of Mississippi Libraries acquired a collection of state-adopted school textbooks for K-12 from its School of Education, a decision was made to catalog the collection for browsing to anticipate the needs of its primary users, both “in service” and “pre-service” teachers. The textbooks would be grouped according to their grade level, and cuttered by subject area, instead of being classed according to its subject area. As the collection would be integrated into the regular circulating collection, and not into a curriculum materials center, issues arose for both technical services and access services throughout the process, from cataloging …
