Michigan Tech Publications

Artificial intelligence (AI) is increasingly permeating nuclear cardiology and offers the possibility to enhance diagnostic accuracy, prognostic stratification, and operational efficiency. AI is demonstrating applicability across the imaging workflow—from individualized patient selection and adaptive image reconstruction to denoising of low-dose datasets, automated attenuation and motion correction, calcium scoring, and the integration of imaging with clinical and functional variables for enhanced diagnosis and comprehensive risk assessment. But the translational trajectory of AI in nuclear cardiology is challenged by the lag in fundamental AI knowledge among researchers and clinicians, the quality of the target data regarding heterogeneity in acquisition protocols, scanner platforms, …

Eco-Friendly Adsorption Of Rhodamine B Dye Using Dragon Fruit Seeds From Foodstuffs, J. N. Gari, Z. M. Saigl

The Journal of King Abdulaziz University: Science

The study aims to remove Rhodamine B (RhB) dye from environmental samples using dragon fruit seeds (DFS) as a potential and efficient biosorbent. Several batch experiments were systematically performed over set intervals to assess how variables such as contact time, temperature, pH, adsorbent dosage, and initial dye concentration influence dye removal performance. To better understand the characteristics of DFS, its surface morphology and chemical composition were investigated using analytical tools like FTIR, EDX, and SEM. The results indicated the adsorption happened quickly within 10 minutes of contact as equilibrium was achieved. The most effective extraction of dye was achieved at …

An Explainable Multimodal Framework For Real-Time Bitcoin Forecasting, Dipesh Badal, Abdelsalam Busalim, Donghyeok Lee

Research Outputs: 2025-Present

High-frequency crypto forecasting requires systems that are accurate, explainable, and designed for human decision-making. Bitcoin presents a unique challenge for Human-Centred AI (HCAI) due to its volatility and sensitivity to heterogeneous technical, fundamental, and sentiment signals. This paper presents an explainable multimodal framework for Bitcoin forecasting at 15-minute resolution. We align five modalities - market data, on-chain metrics, the Fear & Greed Index (FGI), news, and Reddit - onto a unified, leakage-safe 15-minute grid. We evaluate tree-based, sequential, and Multimodal Fusion Block (MFB) models for next-interval log-return prediction using chronological splits. Results show that while short-horizon prediction remains challenging, multimodal …

Environmental And Social Strategies, And Sustainable Performance: The Mediating Role Of Management Control Systems, Zheng Siqi Feb 2026

Environmental And Social Strategies, And Sustainable Performance: The Mediating Role Of Management Control Systems, Zheng Siqi

Student Works (2020-2029)

This study investigates how environmental and social (E&S) strategies influence enterprise sustainability performance (SP), with a focus on the mediating roles of Environmental Management Control Systems (EMCS) and Social Management Control Systems (SMCS). Anchored in the Resource-Based View (RBV), the study conceptualizes E&S strategies, EMCS, and SMCS as internal organizational resources that support the implementation of sustainability-related strategic intent. Although Chinese manufacturing enterprises face increasing regulatory and societal expectations regarding environmental and social responsibilities, prior research has primarily examined the direct association between sustainability strategies and performance outcomes or has treated sustainability control systems as aggregated constructs, providing comparatively less …

Modeling Spasticity: A Systematic Review, Gaby Gonzalez Chan, Jonathan Marsden, Alexander Besinis, Pablo Borja, Hilary Gunn Feb 2026

Modeling Spasticity: A Systematic Review, Gaby Gonzalez Chan, Jonathan Marsden, Alexander Besinis, Pablo Borja, Hilary Gunn

School of Health Professions

Spasticity, a type of hypertonia characterized by a velocity-dependent increase in muscle tone, is associated with damage to the brain and/or spinal cord in different neurological conditions. However, secondary non-neurological factors, such as soft tissue changes, can complicate the assessment and differentiation of the underlying causes. Accurate assessment is crucial for effective treatment planning, with clinicians relying on passive movement to grade the ‘feel’ of the spastic limb. This review aims to identify and evaluate the feasibility of spasticity models or simulations for clinical teaching. Models based on human spastic limbs were examined, with no restrictions on specific conditions or …

Byrne, Martin I. Chilvers, Nathan Kleczewski, Horacio D. Lopez-Nicora, Brian D. Mueller, Daren S. Mueller, Damon L. Smith, Darcy E P Telenko, Richard Wade Webster

APC Fund Awardees

Farmers in the North Central United States are at risk of having soybean yield robbed due to infection by Sclerotinia sclerotiorum, the causal agent of Sclerotinia stem rot (SSR). While certain management strategies, such as wide row spacings, lower plant populations, and resistant varieties, can reduce SSR development, there is often a negative yield impact associated with these strategies. Conversely, chemical management strategies do not have an associated yield drag, and therefore, they have been the primary tool for suppressing SSR development. Independent chemical programs were evaluated across eight states from 2017 to 2024, resulting in 32 site-years (n = …

A 682-Second X-Ray Periodicity In Ch Cygni: Evidence For A Magnetic White Dwarf, Manuel Pichardo Marcano, Thomas J. Maccarone, Liliana E. Rivera Sandoval

Physics & Astronomy Faculty Publications

Symbiotic stars are interacting binaries consisting of a red giant and typically a white dwarf (WD), which are important as potential Type Ia supernova progenitors. Despite theoretical predictions that WDs in symbiotic systems should often be magnetic, direct evidence has been elusive. We report the discovery of a 682.5 ± 7 s periodicity in the XMM–Newton X-ray light curve that we interpret as the spin period of the WD in CH Cygni. This detection provides strong evidence for a magnetic WD in CH Cygni, making it only the second WD symbiotic star with confirmed X-ray pulsations after R Aquarii. Our …

Educators' Evaluation Of Explanation Types In Xai For Higher Education Dropout, Henry Maathuis, Jan Glazenborg, Meike Grol, Keith Quille

Research Outputs: 2025-Present

First-year student dropout rates represent a global challenge, particularly in Computer Science programs. In response, the Predict Student Success (PreSS) tool was developed over two decades using Naïve Bayes, a black box machine learning model, to identify students at risk of early withdrawal or academic failure. Given growing concerns about the use of black box models in high-stakes domains such as education, this study builds on former research by comparing the Naïve Bayes model to three glass box AI models: Decision Tree, Explainable Boosting Machine, and Automatic Piecewise Linear Regression. These models were used to generate four types of explainable …

Ontology-Based E-Commerce Recommender System: A Hybrid Semantic Filtering Approach, Shaymaa Al-Juboori, Jocelyn Pua, Su-Cheng Haw, Lucia Dwi Krisnawati, Gee-Kok Tong

School of Engineering, Computing and Mathematics

The rapid growth of e-commerce has led to product overload, which has resulted in personalized product discovery becoming a crucial problem for consumers. Classic recommender systems (RS), which rely heavily on content-based filtering or collaborative filtering, tend to face well-known problems such as cold start, data sparsity, and ignorance of semantics. Such constraints frequently result in irrelevant or redundant suggestions, thereby lowering the user satisfaction and conversions. This study presents a hybrid ontology-based e-commerce recommender system that combines symbolic reasoning with deep semantic matching. The system is based on a Neo4j graph database to capture structured product relationships and is …

Whose Water Is It, Anyway? Federalism And Texas V. New Mexico, Bryon Louk Feb 2026

Whose Water Is It, Anyway? Federalism And Texas V. New Mexico, Bryon Louk

Arkansas Law Review

When a problem erupts between two states, interstate compacts provide a solution without the need for a nationwide decision. Rather than waiting for federal consensus, the states can, with Congressional approval, compact to solve their problems. However, the Supreme Court’s decision in Texas v. New Mexico (Texas II) has threatened interstate compacts, ignored principles of federalism, and overextended its original jurisdiction. It has allowed the United States to force Texas and New Mexico to keep fighting over a compact, even when the states have resolved their issues on their own.

First, this Comment will describe the legal background of compact …
