Data Provenance Verification For Multi-Stage Processing Pipelines — Chained Integrity Binding, Jayson Winchester Feb 2026

Data Provenance Verification For Multi-Stage Processing Pipelines — Chained Integrity Binding, Jayson Winchester

Defensive Publications Series

This publication discloses methods and systems for constructing and verifying provenance chains that link verifiable commitments across the semantically distinct processing stages of a determination pipeline, providing data provenance verification for multi-stage processing pipelines. In one embodiment, a provenance chain is formed by producing a verifiable commitment at each processing stage, where each stage’s commitment incorporates the preceding stage’s commitment together with the current stage’s content, creating stage-to-stage binding that makes the chain tamper- evident. The resulting forward-only provenance chain ensures that stages cannot be reordered, removed, or inserted without producing a detectably different commitment at each subsequent stage. In …

Privilege Separation Architecture — Structural Confinement Of Analysis Components In Decision Systems, Jayson Winchester Feb 2026

Privilege Separation Architecture — Structural Confinement Of Analysis Components In Decision Systems, Jayson Winchester

Defensive Publications Series

This publication discloses methods and systems for structurally separating components that analyse and propose from components that produce external effects within computational decision infrastructure. In one embodiment, a computational system enforces a structural separation between a determination-side partition (the analysis partition) and an effect-side partition (the execution partition) through its construction — such that no component in the analysis partition can directly invoke operations that produce external effects, regardless of that component’s credentials, permissions, or compromise status. The structural isolation is enforced by system architecture rather than by runtime policy or administrative configuration. In one embodiment, the separation applies with …

Global Supply Chain Resilience In Emerging Technologies: A Case Study Of Bitcoin Mining, Kishanthi Parella, Carla L. Reyes

Seattle University Law Review

The United States has put into motion bold plans in critical and emerging technologies to bolster its national and economic security.  For example, the federal government created a national bitcoin strategic reserve and a stockpile of other cryptocurrency; while several states have committed to or are considering similar goals.  However, the security of these reserves is dependent on two types of supply chains within the Bitcoin mining industry: analogue supply chains, relating to the physical components needed for Bitcoin mining, and data supply chains, relating to the complex and layered logistical network of actors that create input into the software …

Ai-Powered Pathways To Open Education: Enhancing Practice And Expanding Discovery, Rebecca Mcnulty, Lily Dubach

Faculty Scholarship and Creative Works

Generative AI is changing how we teach and learn, and this session will show practical ways it can support open education. We will look at two everyday challenges: finding aligned open materials and spotting places in a course where open practices could enhance opportunities for collaborative learning. An instructional designer will demonstrate how custom GPTs can review a syllabus and suggest places where open pedagogy could involve students in co-creating and sharing knowledge. A librarian will show how large language models can help locate courses and syllabi that already use open practices, making it easier for faculty to discover and …

At the foundation of neurotransmission, and by extension at the foundation of brain function, are coordinated programs of gene expression involving many thousands of genes. These programs are poorly defined in humans because most modern studies that characterize human brain gene expression use tissue obtained in the postmortem state when neurotransmission and brain function have ceased. Here, to advance knowledge of the gene expression programs at the foundation of neurotransmission in the human brain, gene expression was characterized in 130 prefrontal cortex (PFC) samples obtained from participants of the Living Brain Project (LBP) during neurosurgical procedures in conjunction with intracranial …

Exploring Noise Induced Extreme Events In Neuronal Oscillators Networks And Machine Learning Forecasts, Hariharan S Mr Feb 2026

Exploring Noise Induced Extreme Events In Neuronal Oscillators Networks And Machine Learning Forecasts, Hariharan S Mr

Theses and Dissertations

This doctoral dissertation comprehensively investigates the underexplored phenomenon of noise-induced extreme events (EE). The word “extreme” is accompanied by an occurring “event” when the deviation is extreme or higher than that of regular occurrences. These extreme occurrences are rare, abrupt, sudden, and irregular, often causing a profound impact on the system and its surroundings. Tsunami, earthquakes, solar flares, and tornadoes are such events that do not occur often but still significantly cause damage to mankind. This thesis particularly focuses on EE in neuronal systems where sudden synchronization can trigger seizures, tremors, and strokes which serve as classic examples of such …

Survival On Image Regression With Application To Partially Functional Distributional Representation Of Physical Activity, Rahul Ghosal, Sunwoo Emma Cho, Marcos Matabuena Feb 2026

Survival On Image Regression With Application To Partially Functional Distributional Representation Of Physical Activity, Rahul Ghosal, Sunwoo Emma Cho, Marcos Matabuena

Faculty Publications

Technological advancements in wearable devices and medical imaging often lead to high-dimensional physiological signals in the form of images or surfaces. To address these data structures, we develop a novel survival on image regression model with a specific focus on partially functional distributional representation of wearable data. The existing approaches for functional data and survival outcomes have been primarily developed for uni-dimensional functional predictors. Drawing on recent developments in distributional data analysis, we model temporally varying distributional patterns of physical activity (PA) as a partially functional distributional predictor within a semiparametric Cox model framework. We use tensor product splines to …

Purpose of Review

There is increasing evidence that several environmental exposures may pose a risk for depression, including maternal depression. We conducted a scoping review of epidemiological evidence regarding maternal exposure to environmental chemicals and perinatal depression.

Recent Findings

We searched PubMed, Embase, Web of Science, Dimensions, and Scopus, and summarized the findings from 27 articles that examined environmental chemical exposures and maternal depression. Studies of ambient air pollutants (N = 11) showed exposure to NO2 and PM10 to be most consistently associated with antenatal or postnatal depression. Studies of endocrine-disrupting chemicals, including phthalates (n = 6), …

Ai-Guided Binding Mechanisms And Molecular Dynamics For Mers-Cov, Pradyumna Kumar, Lingtao Chen, Rachel Yuanbao Chen, Yin Chen, Seyedamin Pouriyeh, Progyateg Chakma, Abdur Rahman Mohd Abul Basher, Yixin Xie

Faculty Articles

The MERS-CoV (Middle East respiratory syndrome coronavirus) is a zoonotic virus with a high mortality rate and a lack of antiviral drugs, underscoring the need for effective therapeutic methods. Viral entry depends on interactions between viral surface proteins and human receptors, with Dipeptidyl Peptidase-4 (DPP4), a transmembrane glycoprotein, acting as the receptor for MERS-CoV. We employed Molecular Dynamics (MD) Simulations to identify critical interface residues under a high-performance computing (HPC) workflow for accelerated results. Target residue pairs were identified through analysis of salt bridge and hydrogen bond occupancy. The stability of these residues was confirmed through three independent MD Simulations …
