Physics Faculty Research & Creative Works
We demonstrate that secondary ions sputtered from a macrocapillary's inner surface by the primary beam induce premature saturation of the guiding field, hindering fast ion guiding. By suppressing secondary ion sputtering with grooved surfaces, we achieve a guiding-field potential difference exceeding 1 kV, 2 orders of magnitude larger than previously achieved in stable ion guiding. This enables stable guiding of a 20-keV/q O5+ beam at offset angles up to 15°, with transmitted ions retaining their initial energy and charge state. A self-consistent field model accurately reproduces these results, revealing that guiding performance relies on managing secondary ions and the channel's …
Agnostic Tomography Of Stabilizer Product States, Sabee Grewal, Vishnu Iyer, William Kretschmer, Daniel Liang
Agnostic Tomography Of Stabilizer Product States, Sabee Grewal, Vishnu Iyer, William Kretschmer, Daniel Liang
Computer Science Faculty Publications and Presentations
We define a quantum learning task called agnostic tomography, where given copies of an arbitrary state ρ and a class of quantum states C, the goal is to output a succinct description of a state that approximates ρ at least as well as any state in C (up to some small error ε). This task generalizes ordinary quantum tomography of states in C and is more challenging because the learning algorithm must be robust to perturbations of ρ. We give an efficient agnostic tomography algorithm for the class C of n-qubit stabilizer product states. Assuming ρ has fidelity at least …
Spin Pumping And Interfacial Anisotropy In Ultrathin Cobalt Heterostructures, Ibrahim Almuhanna
Spin Pumping And Interfacial Anisotropy In Ultrathin Cobalt Heterostructures, Ibrahim Almuhanna
USF Tampa Graduate Theses and Dissertations
Interfaces dominate the behavior of ultrathin ferromagnets, where interfacial spin-orbit coupling(SOC) can strongly influence both magnetic anisotropy and magnetization dynamics. This thesis compares how a heavy-metal interface (Pt) and a semiconducting two-dimensional transition-metal dichalcogenide (TMD) interface (MoSe2) modify the static and dynamic magnetic properties of ultrathin Co. To isolate interface-driven effects, the heterostructure architecture is kept fixed (sapphire substrate and Si3N4 cap) while only the seeding/interface layer beneath Co is varied. MoSe2 is studied in two thickness conditions (monolayer and bilayer) to test layer-dependent trends.
Layer thicknesses are determined by X-ray reflectivity. Static magnetic properties are measured by in-plane vibrating …

Symmetry And Scale: The Precise Engineering Of Chitosan-Based Polyhedral For The Delivery Of Therapeutic Materials At The Nanoscale, Ahmed. J. Jasim, Noor Malik Saadoon
AUIQ Technical Engineering Science
Preparation of chitosan-based drug delivery carriers requires converting linear polysaccharide chains into individual 3D objects. By building on the natural structural properties of chitin-based polymers, in addition to control the geometry of organically derived raw material from feedstock to submicron polyhedral or spherical dimensions. This geometric change is governed by a surface area-to-volume ratio that maximizes the exposure of the therapeutic payload to the external environment. The approach centres on the development of such carriers using ion-complexation and emulsification methodologies, which involve electrostatic cross-linking of ion-binding pairs to define an impenetrable boundary separating a liquid from a solid phase. Critical …
Taylor Dispersion In Variable-Density, Variable-Viscosity Pulsatile Flows, Prabakaran Rajamanickam, Adam D. Weiss
Taylor Dispersion In Variable-Density, Variable-Viscosity Pulsatile Flows, Prabakaran Rajamanickam, Adam D. Weiss
Progress in Scale Modeling, an International Journal
The phenomenon of Taylor or shear-induced dispersion of a non-passive scalar field in a pulsatile pipe flow is investigated, accounting for the scalar field's influence on fluid density and transport coefficients. By employing multiple scale analysis, an effective one-dimensional, unsteady mixing problem for the scalar field is obtained, which includes the diffusion coefficient for shear-induced dispersion. The resulting governing equations are applicable to a range of scalar transport problems in pulsatile pipe flows.

Polyherbal Phytochemicals As Multi-Target Inhibitors Of Key Breast Cancer Proteins: A Computational Approach, Nadia Wahyuningsih, Nashi Widodo, Sri Rahayu, Muhaimin Rifa’I
Karbala International Journal of Modern Science
Breast cancer is a primary worldwide health concern, and conventional therapies often cause side effects. This study was performed to investigate the therapeutic potential of a polyherbal formulation containing Curcuma longa, Phyllanthus niruri, Ziziphus mauritiana, Nigella sativa, and Annona muricata as multi-target inhibitors against breast cancer protein targets using molecular docking and molecular dynamics in silico approach. Bioactive compounds were analyzed using Liquid Chromatography High-Resolution Mass Spectrometry (LC-HRMS) to identify the extract's phytochemicals. The compounds were examined for drug-likeness, membrane permeability, bioactivity, and toxicity. The inhibitory ability against the proto-oncogene pathway, which is commonly dysregulated and mutated in breast cancer, …

Synthesis And Characterization Of Ti-Enhanced F75/Ha Functionally Graded Materials Fabricated By Powder Metallurgy, Afrah M. Al Hussainey, Aseel Mustafa, Randa Kamel Hussain
Karbala International Journal of Modern Science
Functionally graded materials (FGMs) are a highly advanced class of biomaterials with graded structure and properties, enabling the fabrication of physiologically and mechanically compatible materials for use in various medical devices. This study aims to produce a functional-grade material based on a cobalt-chromium-molybdenum alloy (F75) reinforced with 4% titanium (Ti) and hydroxyapatite (HA). This will enhance the material's mechanical properties, corrosion resistance, and bioactivity, making it suitable for use as a bone substitute. The natural eggshells were washed, burnt, and chemically processed to form hydroxyapatite with a Ca/P proportion of 1.67. FTIR showed that phosphate and OH groups were separate, …

The Effectiveness Of Wordwall-Integrated Game-Based Learning On Elementary School Students' Science And Social Studies (Ipas) Learning Outcomes, Maryanah Maryanah, Aynin Mashfufah, Riska Pristiani
Jurnal Pendidikan: Teori, Penelitian, dan Pengembangan
The implementation of IPAS learning at the elementary school level is still dominated by one-way learning strategies with limited media support. This condition has an impact on the low level of student activity, resulting in suboptimal conceptual understanding, especially for abstract material such as food chains. This study aims to examine the effect of applying digital game-based learning integrated with Wordwall on the IPAS learning outcomes of fifth-grade elementary school students. The research used a quantitative approach with a quasi-experimental design, involving a treatment group and a comparison group with equivalent initial abilities. Data collection was carried out using a …
Multimodal Construction Of Ideational Meaning On Opening Pages Of English Textbooks In China, Yudie Wei, Uti Aryanti
Multimodal Construction Of Ideational Meaning On Opening Pages Of English Textbooks In China, Yudie Wei, Uti Aryanti
Jurnal Pendidikan: Teori, Penelitian, dan Pengembangan
This study aims to examine how ideational meaning is multimodally constructed on 31 opening pages through the interaction of theme images and Look and Share questions in four newly published junior high school English textbooks by People’s Education Press. Adopting the multimodal discourse analytic approach, the study analyzed representational processes in 32 images using Visual Grammar and ideational processes in 97 verbal interrogatives through transitivity patterns. The findings show that opening page images are predominantly narrative, frequently foregrounding action and reactional processes. The verbal questions, in contrast, show a strong tendency toward mental processes, while material and relational processes also …
