Bifurcation Exploration Of Ion Acoustic Solitons Formation Of A Nonlinear Beta Fractional Kadomtsev-Petviashvili Burger Model In Plasma State, Mst. Razia Pervin, Alrazi Abdeljabbar, Fahad Sameer Alshammari, Mst. Shekha Khatun, Harun Or-Roshid

Mathematical Modelling and Numerical Simulation with Applications

This research presents an extensive investigation of Ion acoustic soliton dynamics governed by a Beta-fractional Kadomtsev-Petviashvili-Burgurs (KPB) model. By engaging the planar dynamical system scheme in aggregation with the extended $(\phi, \psi)$ expansion, Kudryashov expansion, and the NMKM analytic schemes, we create a broad class of exact nonlinear pattern wave solutions. The local stability edifice of the fractional plasma model is explored through bifurcation theory, enabling the far-reaching classification of all admissible phase diagrams. Conforming Ion acoustic wave structures allied with every detour alignment are systematically assembled. Owing to the fractional and dissipative appearances of the model, an all-embracing assortment …

Numerical Simulations And Hyers-Ulam Stability Of A Novel Nonlocal Anthropogenic Cutaneous Leishmaniasis Mathematical Model, Khalid Fanoukh Al Oweidi, Zakirullah -, Kamal Shah, Thabet Abdeljawad

Mathematical Modelling and Numerical Simulation with Applications

In this work, the fractal-fractional Atangana-Baleanu derivative with the Mittag-Leffler kernel is employed to capture the memory and hereditary effects inherent to anthropogenic cutaneous leishmaniasis transmission dynamics. The Banach fixed-point theorem and contraction mapping principle are used to prove the existence and uniqueness of solutions, while Hyers-Ulam stability of the system is analyzed to demonstrate the robustness of solutions with respect to small perturbations. Using a nonlinear least-squares approach, model parameters and fractional order are estimated using epidemiological data from the World Health Organization. The basic reproduction number $R_0 = 0.53$ indicates that the disease is under control after adding …

Markov-Modulated Queueing Network For Mobile Traffic Aggregation With Threshold-Controlled Buffers, Anton A. Esin, Elmira Yu. Kalimulina Mar 2026

Markov-Modulated Queueing Network For Mobile Traffic Aggregation With Threshold-Controlled Buffers, Anton A. Esin, Elmira Yu. Kalimulina

Mathematical Modelling and Numerical Simulation with Applications

We study the problem of data transmission from mobile platforms operating in high-speed transit between cellular base stations, under conditions of unstable and intermittent connectivity. Conventional queueing and connectivity models often fail to capture the combined effects of rapidly changing signal conditions, finite buffer capacity, and dynamic topology. We aim to develop a tractable yet expressive model that integrates stochastic link availability, queue dynamics, and buffer control. We propose a mathematical framework based on queues whose service intensities are modulated by a continuous-time Markov chain (CTMC) representing signal conditions along a high-speed trajectory. The core subsystem is a two-stage (aggregation …

Optimal Control And Bifurcation Analysis Of A Predator–Prey Model With Self-Limiting Growth And Predator Disease, Dipo Aldila, Muhammad Akmal Fasya, Bevina D. Handari, Chidozie Williams Chukwu, Olumuyiwa James Peter Mar 2026

Optimal Control And Bifurcation Analysis Of A Predator–Prey Model With Self-Limiting Growth And Predator Disease, Dipo Aldila, Muhammad Akmal Fasya, Bevina D. Handari, Chidozie Williams Chukwu, Olumuyiwa James Peter

Mathematical Modelling and Numerical Simulation with Applications

We propose and analyze an eco-epidemiological predator–prey model that incorporates self-limitation and disease transmission within the predator population. The model is formulated as a system of ordinary differential equations describing logistic prey growth under the interspecific interaction with the predator. On the other hand, the predator population is divided into susceptible and infected classes, whose growth is constrained by prey availability. Three biologically relevant equilibria are identified: predator extinction, disease-free coexistence, and coexistence with endemic disease. The existence and stability of these equilibria are determined by key ecological and epidemiological thresholds, including the basic reproduction number. Using numerical continuation methods, …

Measuring Market Risk Through Entropic Var, Dragomir Nedeltchev, Tsvetelin Zaevski Mar 2026

Measuring Market Risk Through Entropic Var, Dragomir Nedeltchev, Tsvetelin Zaevski

Mathematical Modelling and Numerical Simulation with Applications

The article aims to measure the market risk beyond the basic risk measures like the Value-at-Risk (VaR) and the Expected Shortfall (ES). The Entropic Value-at-Risk is selected among the available measures based on its advantages -- it is the coherent upper bound of the VaR and ES. This risk measure is applied to the classical Black-Scholes model as well as to some more realistic ones, such as the exponential tempered stable model (the log-returns are presented by a tempered stable L\'evy process), the stochastic volatility model of Heston, its jump extension of Bates, and another stochastic volatility model but with …

Chemistry Faculty Publications and Presentations

Electronic nicotine delivery system manufacturers, such as Charlie's Holdings Inc., ECBlend, Outlaw, and NicRiver, have recently introduced nicotine analogs, such as 6-methyl nicotine, 6-MN ("Metatine"), and nicotinamide, NA ("Nixamide," "Nixodine," or "Nixotin-free base and salt") in products to circumvent the U.S. FDA's premarket tobacco product application (PMTA) requirements. Marketed as "tobacco-free," "PMTA-exempt," or "FDA-approved," these compounds now appear in oral nicotine pouches and disposable bars/vapes from brands such as Outlaw Dip, Kumi-Six, SBX, Katchmi, and Spree Bar under proprietary labels including "NoNic6," "Metatine," or "NIC-SAFE." These products often mimic the appeal of conventional nicotine delivery systems, with extensive use of …

Forest Fires Increase Vulnerability To Midwinter Rain-On-Snow Snowmelt In The Western Oregon Cascades, Sage C. Ebel, Kelly Gleason

Environmental Science and Management Faculty Publications and Presentations

Forest fires and rain-on-snow events in the seasonal snow zone of the Pacific Northwest are increasing in frequency and magnitude, yet the combined impacts of these events on snowpack and water resources remain poorly understood. We show that forest fires doubled midwinter snowmelt proportions in 2023 and 2024 compared to unburned reference sites in the western Oregon Cascades. Data from snow monitoring and micrometeorological stations installed across an elevational gradient revealed increased snowpack vulnerability during midwinter rain-on-snow events, where we observed more snowmelt per rain-on-snow event in the burned forest, indicating higher vulnerability of these snowpacks to rapid melt, increasing …

Projections Of The Characteristics Of Extreme Precipitation In East Africa Using Bias-Corrected Cmip6 Models, Exavery K. Makula

Tanzania Journal of Science

In the context of ongoing global climate change, the intensification of the hydrological cycle is expected to modify the frequency, magnitude, and spatial distribution of extreme precipitation events. Understanding how precipitation extremes will evolve under climate change is critical for East Africa (EA), a region highly vulnerable to hydroclimatic hazards and strongly dependent on rainfall-driven socioeconomic systems. The region experiences two main rainfall seasons, namely the long rains (March-May, MAM) and the short rains (October-December, OND). This study investigates future projections of the characteristics of extreme precipitation across the EA using an ensemble of biascorrected CMIP6 global climate models. Extreme …

Engineering and Technology Journal

In this paper, a two-stage optimization scheme of proactive resilience of the transmission system to severe multi-bus contingencies is developed. A hybrid PSO-GSA-Quantum metaheuristic is used to find the 4-bus reactive fault clusters in the IEEE 118-bus system in stage 1. The cluster identified with the performance index (PI) of 1.8875 × 103 has the 91.6th percentile of 10000 random Monte Carlo samples and 1.78 times worse than the worst N-1 contingency. The results of the Monte Carlo analysis indicate that the PI distribution is essentially bimodal (skewness = 0.5188, kurtosis = 3.2394) and the distribution is concentrated around …

Applications Of Multivariable Calculus In Football, Karolina Rzeszut, Sarah Kraus, Montana Smith, Nathan Rowland, Lucas Owen, Kyler Akers, Karolina Rzeszut Mar 2026

Applications Of Multivariable Calculus In Football, Karolina Rzeszut, Sarah Kraus, Montana Smith, Nathan Rowland, Lucas Owen, Kyler Akers, Karolina Rzeszut

Student Research Symposium (SRS)

Multivariable calculus helps explain how things work when more than one variable interacts at once, connecting with ideas such as architecture, nature, and most significantly football. In the latter, the ellipsoid equation has a significant effect on the aerodynamics of the ball, particularly the spiral motion when thrown. A football has three main dimensions: length, width, and height. Changing the ratios among these dimensions affects factors such as the stability of the spiral, the height of the throw’s parabolic path, and the overall distance the ball travels. By exploring these connections, this work shows how calculus can describe motion, efficiency, …

Experimental Validation Of Torricelli’S Law Using Dual Tank Geometries, Utkarsh Ravi, Zarif Naimul Mar 2026

Experimental Validation Of Torricelli’S Law Using Dual Tank Geometries, Utkarsh Ravi, Zarif Naimul

Student Research Symposium (SRS)

This project investigates Torricelli’s Law, a fundamental principle in fluid mechanics that relates the velocity of fluid exiting an orifice to the height of the fluid above the opening. The experiment compares the drainage rates of two vertical tanks with different diameters but identical outlet sizes, isolating the influence of tank cross-sectional area on flow behavior. Each tank is filled to the same initial height, and water level versus time data are collected as the tanks drain under gravity. Using differential equation modeling and separation of variables, theoretical predictions are derived and compared to experimental results. Data analysis focuses on …

The Use Of Descent Gradients In Ai Learning Models, Alexander Wheeler Mar 2026

The Use Of Descent Gradients In Ai Learning Models, Alexander Wheeler

Student Research Symposium (SRS)

AI learning models use mathematical techniques to effectively minimize errors and improve prediction accuracy. Essential to these techniques is the use of the gradient descent, which outputs the correct way to adjust the model’s parameters to most effectively minimize error. The gradient descent is applied at the point of error produced by the program’s loss-function, a multi-variable function that mathematically represents the magnitude of error. This paper focuses on the implementation of the gradient descent, and its optimization of updating the models’ parameters. Multiple types of loss functions are examined, such as squared error and cross-entropy, and their influence on …

Systems And Methods For Detecting Trajectory Closure And Structural Irreversibility In Ai Systems, Thom Pham Mar 2026

Systems And Methods For Detecting Trajectory Closure And Structural Irreversibility In Ai Systems, Thom Pham

Defensive Publications Series

This disclosure describes systems and methods for characterizing when an error in an artificial intelligence trajectory remains correctable and when it becomes structurally irreversible. The disclosure introduces a temporal framework centered on closure, defined as the transition from revisable to non-revisable trajectory dynamics under active constraints. Two error regimes are distinguished: localized error, in which a deviation remains attached to an identifiable and correctable claim or state, and distributed error, in which violations are absorbed into the trajectory as a whole. The disclosure further introduces Aggregation-Induced Error (AIE) as a mechanism by which independent constraints lose separability when compressed into …

Artificial Genuine Intelligence: Why Constraint Matters More Than Values In Recursive Ai Systems, Thom Pham Mar 2026

Artificial Genuine Intelligence: Why Constraint Matters More Than Values In Recursive Ai Systems, Thom Pham

Defensive Publications Series

Large language models are often described as hallucinating when they produce incorrect

or unsupported outputs. That label is useful descriptively, but it conflates several distinct

mechanisms, including local generation error, unsupported fabrication, and

interaction-driven reinforcement of an initially weak claim. This paper isolates the third

case.

We argue that a subset of hallucination-like behavior is better understood as Recursive

Narrative Amplification (RNA): a feedback dynamic in which an already introduced

claim gains authority through recursive reuse before sufficient external constraint has

refreshed or corrected the trajectory.

The paper also introduces aggregation-induced error as a distinct structural failure mode

arising from …

Optically Isolated, Current-Controlled Closed-Loop System For Magnetically-Mediated Temporal Interference Neuromodulation (M-Ttis), Olexandr Lozovyi Mar 2026

Optically Isolated, Current-Controlled Closed-Loop System For Magnetically-Mediated Temporal Interference Neuromodulation (M-Ttis), Olexandr Lozovyi

Defensive Publications Series

We disclose a neuromodulation system implementing closed-loop, magnetically-mediated temporal interference stimulation (m-tTIS). While inspired by traditional electric tTIS, the disclosed architecture utilizes coherent magnetic field synthesis for non-invasive tissue penetration. To suppress electromagnetic interference (EMI) below functional detection thresholds and limit hardware-induced demodulation artifacts, an "Absolute Optical Air-Gap" architecture is detailed. The device is partitioned into galvanically isolated domains, interconnected exclusively via plastic optical fiber (POF). The power stage employs a Class D amplifier with a second-order LC filter and hardware current sensing for amplitude stabilization. Control is based on adaptive optimization of physiological spectral metrics. Firmware execution provides deterministic, …

Decoupling Stylistic And Factual Context In Llms To Mitigate Conversational Tone Inertia, Viraj Doshi Mar 2026

Decoupling Stylistic And Factual Context In Llms To Mitigate Conversational Tone Inertia, Viraj Doshi

Defensive Publications Series

Large language models (LLMs) engaged in extended dialogues may exhibit "tone inertia," where a model's style can become fixed and may not adapt when a conversational topic shifts, potentially leading to contextually inappropriate responses. A system can manage this behavior by algorithmically decoupling conversational context into components, such as a factual context for semantic knowledge and a stylistic context for tone and stylistic profile. A domain shift detection module can identify shifts in the conversation based on mathematical/vector detection, which may trigger a reset of the stylistic context while the factual context is preserved. This process can allow dynamic adaptation …

Multiscale Computational Modeling Of The Cardiopulmonary Consequences Of Postnatal Hyperoxia With Implications For Preterm-Born Children, Salla M. Kim, Filip Jezek, Pim J. A. Oomen, Gregory P. Barton, Feng Gu, Daniel A. Beard, Kara N. Goss, Mitchel J. Colebank, Naomi C. Chesler

Faculty Publications

Moderate to extreme preterm birth (<  32 weeks gestation) affects cardiopulmonary structure and function and is associated with increased risk of heart failure through adulthood. The rat hyperoxia (Hx) model (term born; postnatal Hx exposure) captures biventricular changes, including at the cell and organ scale, and pulmonary vascular remodeling seen in preterm humans. However, synthesizing these measures across scales and organ systems is challenging. We hypothesized that in silico modeling of biventricular mitochondrial, myofiber, and organ-scale function plus circulatory function could capture key features of cardiopulmonary abnormalities due to preterm birth. Therefore, we calibrated a multiscale model to subject-specific biventricular pressure–volume data previously obtained from Hx rats alongside normoxic (Nx) controls to investigate the abnormalities in cardiopulmonary function at multiple scales in this animal model of human preterm birth. The calibrated model demonstrates excellent agreement with the data and captures the expected pulmonary vascular changes and right ventricular dilation seen in preterm-born children. Our multiscale modeling approach captures cardiopulmonary abnormalities across spatial scales and provides an innovative approach to explore the consequences of preterm birth beyond preclinical experimental data alone. This is a foundational step in understanding the impact of preterm birth on cardiopulmonary disease in childhood as well as adulthood.

Who Is Presidential? Women’S Political Representation, Deflection, And The 2016 Election, Kaitlin M. Boyle, Chase B. Meyer

Faculty Publications

In 2016, Hillary Clinton was the first woman to gain the presidential nomination from a major political party in the United States, yet she was unsuccessful. The current study explores barriers to being elected as president for women generally and Hillary Clinton specifically. Using the propositions and tools of affect control theory, we demonstrate how women’s political representation shapes cultural sentiments about women and the president. In a nationwide sample of Americans surveyed shortly before the election, we find women’s representation on the state level influences voter preferences through these cultural sentiments: More women in politics makes a woman president …
