Writing Workshop In Prose, Kylee C. Pastore
Writing Workshop In Prose, Kylee C. Pastore
Open Educational Resources
The Prose Workshop (Fall 2025) is a zero-textbook-cost (ZTC) course at The City College of New York that integrates open educational resources (OER) to develop students’ skills as writers, readers, and critics. Structured in two major parts, the course begins with cultural criticism, guiding students to produce a polished 750–1000 word essay that combines close observation, analysis, and creative voice. The second half focuses on longform narrative nonfiction, culminating in a 3,000-word editorial essay intended for submission to a real-world publication. Alongside these core projects, students engage in weekly homework blogs, annotated course readers, and a final creative experiment in …
Increasing The Robustness Of A Control System For A Complex Dynamic Plant By Correcting Nonlinearity In The Warping Process, Tukhtamurod Khayitmurodovich Avezov, Zokhid Ergashboyevich Iskandarov
Increasing The Robustness Of A Control System For A Complex Dynamic Plant By Correcting Nonlinearity In The Warping Process, Tukhtamurod Khayitmurodovich Avezov, Zokhid Ergashboyevich Iskandarov
Chemical Technology, Control and Management
The paper discusses the challenges of enhancing the robustness of a control system for a complex dynamic plant by addressing nonlinearity in the warping process. Devices that ensure the stability of the control system against parameter non-stationarity on the warping machine are referred to as state controllers. The operating principle of these devices relies on providing artificial nonlinearity to the rear connection circuit of the control system's actuator. However, this nonlinearity is implemented using components that consider the parameters of low control quality. Therefore, it is necessary to continuously adjust the nonlinearity parameters to, on one hand, reduce the load …
Optimizing Beer Fermentation Through Intelligent Control, Azizbek Nodirbekovich Yusupbekov, Mirjalol Yusupov
Optimizing Beer Fermentation Through Intelligent Control, Azizbek Nodirbekovich Yusupbekov, Mirjalol Yusupov
Chemical Technology, Control and Management
This paper presents an intelligent control approach for optimizing the beer fermentation process using fuzzy logic and adaptive neuro-fuzzy inference systems. By incorporating multivariable inputs—temperature error and pH deviation—the proposed system effectively handles the nonlinear dynamics and biological variability inherent in fermentation. Simulation results demonstrate improved control accuracy, responsiveness, and robustness compared to conventional methods, making the approach suitable for integration in modern brewery automation systems.
Cognition, White Matter Hyperintensities And Suicide Risk In Late-Life Depression Patients: An Exploratory Study, Martha Sajatovic
Cognition, White Matter Hyperintensities And Suicide Risk In Late-Life Depression Patients: An Exploratory Study, Martha Sajatovic
Faculty Scholarship
Objective: Suicide among older adults represents a major public health concern and is closely associated with late-life depression (LLD). White matter hyperintensities (WMHs), frequently observed in the aging population, have been linked to both LLD and cognitive impairment. However, the role of WMH burden and cognitive dysfunction in older adults with LLD who have recently attempted suicide remains unclear. This study aims to investigate differences in WMH burden and cognitive performance across three groups: LLD patients with a recent suicide attempt (recent suicide attempt group, RSA), non-suicidal LLD patients (non-suicidal group, NS), and healthy older adults (healthy comparison group, HC). …
The "Uniform Rule" And Its Exceptions: A History Of Congressional Naturalization Legislation, Daniel Rice
The "Uniform Rule" And Its Exceptions: A History Of Congressional Naturalization Legislation, Daniel Rice
The Ozark Historical Review
Article 1, Section 8 of the Constitution empowers Congress “[t]o establish an uniform Rule of Naturalization.” In Part I of this article, I discuss the American colonial experience with naturalization laws and account for the Naturalization Clause’s. I then examine the historical development of Congress’s “uniform rule” and deconstruct the mechanism by which certain groups have been excluded from and brought back within its reach. Lastly, I scrutinize Congress’s posture towards expatriation, the logical converse of naturalization. In Part II, I ask why Congress might have thought it expedient to carve out statutory exceptions to the naturalization procedures it had …

The research focuses on developing an improved system for generating and analyzing text by combining GPT-2, LSTM, and CNN models to address challenges in automated content creation for software engineering tasks. The system targets specific applications such as requirements engineering, software documentation, and code comment generation. It generates 150-token text samples based on over 100 user-provided prompts. These generated texts are first processed through an LSTM layer to capture semantic meaning, then passed through a CNN module to extract syntactic and semantic features. All outputs are stored in structured CSV files to support future analysis. Evaluation results demonstrate positive impacts …
The Quest For Liberation: Philosophy And The Making Of World Culture In China And The West, Chunjie Zhang
The Quest For Liberation: Philosophy And The Making Of World Culture In China And The West, Chunjie Zhang
Philosophy & Theory
Contemporary debate on cosmopolitanism routinely refers to Immanuel Kant as its intellectual origin. A group of Chinese and German-speaking thinkers in the early twentieth century, however, used classical Chinese philosophy as an alternative intellectual genealogy to reimagine ethics, politics, society, and modernity for the entire world. Their engagement with Confucianism, Taoism, and Buddhism broadens the scope of global intellectual history to include a non-European origin of concepts and ideas.
Due to the differences in their local crises, the Chinese and the European stories are often narrated in separate national and cultural contexts. Bridging the critical divide between China and the …

Solving The No-Reading Problem With Ai, Royi Ashkenazi
Solving The No-Reading Problem With Ai, Royi Ashkenazi
The Business, Entrepreneurship & Tax Law Review
Standard form contracts bear a consistent curse: consumers do not read them. While AI-powered tools like ChatGPT are now capable of parsing and interpreting such complicated contracts efficiently, the mere existence of these technological capabilities does little to solve the core “no-reading problem”—consumers must actually adopt and use AI for this purpose. This paper proposes a novel regulatory regime that could fundamentally alter consumers’ approach to SFCs through two mandatory requirements: first, that sellers embed in their contracts direct hyperlinks or QR codes connecting to certified AI systems with pre-prepared prompts; second, that all SFCs contain a prominent clause explicitly …

The Malditas, The Filipinas, And The Azkals: A Socio-Onomastic Examination Of Nicknames Used For The Philippine Women’S And Men’S National Football Teams, Satwinder Rehal, Inez Z. Ponce De Leon
Department of Communication Faculty Publications
Nicknames in sports can serve a wide range of social and semantic functions. Assigning nicknames to athletes and teams can allow fans to identify with them. Such names can also become symbolic resources that fans and teams turn to when asserting their identity. Nicknames in sports come to convey varied meanings and interpretations understood within a set of contextual properties. This paper fills an empirical gap and investigates nicknames of national sports teams used in Southeast Asia. The investigative focus is on the nicknames of the Philippines men’s and women’s national football teams. Employing Leslie and Skipper’s socio-onomastic framework, this …

Resilience As Resistance: Political Discourses Of Climate Adaptation Among Smallholder Coffee Farmers In Forest Conflict Zones Of Central Aceh Indonesia, Vellayati Hajad, Ikhsan Ikhsan, Nabila Hilmy Zafira, Sarini Vita Dewi
Jurnal Wacana Politik
Climate change has exerted significant social, economic, and environmental pressures on small-scale coffee farmers, particularly those living near protected forest areas. Declining yields, land limitations, and restrictive conservation policies have created complex tensions related to resource access and survival strategies. This study aims to analyze the political discourses embedded in the dynamics of land rights disputes and climate adaptation strategies of small-scale coffee farmers. Using a qualitative approach and Critical Discourse Analysis (CDA), the study explores how farmers negotiate, reject, and reinterpret state environmental regulations through everyday practices and narratives. This study’s findings reveal that coffee farmers’ adaptation strategies are …
Almost, Beyond, Or Alongside Fandom? An Alternative Frame For Qanon, Melissa D. Nelson
Almost, Beyond, Or Alongside Fandom? An Alternative Frame For Qanon, Melissa D. Nelson
Proceedings from the Document Academy
This conceptual paper argues that parafandom offers a potentially useful framework to make sense of fannish forms of dis- or misinformation. To support this argument, I first provide an overview of dis- and misinformation and the ways that it has been studied within LIS and fan studies, respectively. From this scholarship, I identify several existing frameworks for studying atypical fan(dom)s, including research on ‘fans’ of QAnon. Finally, I offer a working definition of parafandom, concluding with several possibilities for its application in future FanLIS research.
An Exceptive Account Of ‘Unless’ Clauses: Corpus Evidence, Wajed Al-Ahmad
An Exceptive Account Of ‘Unless’ Clauses: Corpus Evidence, Wajed Al-Ahmad
Jordan Journal of Applied Science-Humanities Series
This paper provides corpus evidence to demonstrate that ‘unless’ clauses function like exceptive constructions (ECs). It adopts Galal et al. (2019) classification of ECs into two categories: paradigmatic ECs (connected/regular exceptive) and hypotactic ECs (free exceptive). The current analysis applies this classification to ‘unless’ clauses to examine their behavior. Corpus evidence shows that unless clauses consistently occupy a fixed position relative to their antecedent, similar to paradigmatic ECs. However, the two constructions differ in that ‘unless’ clauses occur before the antecedent regardless of the position of the consequent (the statement), whereas paradigmatic ECs occur after the antecedent. Additionally, unless allows …

A Content Analysis Of Pronunciation And Spelling Activities In Action Pack Ten, Sana’ Al-Smadi, Ruba Bataineh, Mohammad Al-Hawamdeh
Jordan Journal of Applied Science-Humanities Series
Pronunciation and spelling are crucial skills for any intelligible form of spoken or written communication. Both serve as important indicators—among others—that determine the quality of speech or writing. However, EFL learners often face challenges with these fundamental skills during real-life communication. This content analysis aims to examine whether pronunciation and spelling are adequately covered in the Student Book and Activity Book, the extent to which these activities are emphasized, and their focus within Action Pack 10. To achieve these objectives, a mixed-methods approach was employed, including the development of four content analysis sheets. Frequencies and percentages were used for analysis, …
