The Role Of Artificial Intelligence In Enhancing Public Awareness And Communication On Indoor Radon Risk, Margarita Kuqali, Ylli Kaçiu, Gazmend Nafezi, Frank Holzwarth

UBT International Conference

Radon is a naturally occurring radioactive gas and the second leading cause of lung cancer, particularly among non-smokers. Despite its health risks, public awareness of indoor radon exposure remains low in many countries, including Kosovo. Traditional risk communication often struggles to engage diverse populations or adapt to modern digital habits. This paper explores the potential of artificial intelligence (AI) to enhance radon awareness through intelligent communication tools. Natural language processing (NLP) and AI-powered chatbots can deliver instant, personalized, and accessible information tailored to different languages, literacy levels, and cultural contexts. Additionally, sentiment analysis of social media can detect misconceptions and …

“Tell Your Papa”: Aesthetics Of Confrontation And Visual Witnessing In Nigerian Protest Music, Omotayo Jemiluyi Oct 2025

“Tell Your Papa”: Aesthetics Of Confrontation And Visual Witnessing In Nigerian Protest Music, Omotayo Jemiluyi

Dialogue: The Interdisciplinary Journal of Popular Culture and Pedagogy

This study analyzes the music video “Tell Your Papa” (2025), a politically charged protest song by Nigerian artiste Eedris Abdulkareem, as an exemplary case of aesthetics of confrontation, here conceptualized as a multimodal strategy in which direct address, anti-spectacle visual style, literalism, and discomfort converge to confront political power. Focusing on the song’s explicit critique of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, his son Seyi Tinubu, and other prominent political figures, the analysis demonstrates how Abdulkareem renders indistinct the line between music and political discourse through a visual-sonic language that is accusatory, documentary-stylized, and unflinchingly courageous. While building on the lineage …

Enumerating Environmental Exemptions In Section 501(C)(3), Samuel D. Brunson Oct 2025

Enumerating Environmental Exemptions In Section 501(C)(3), Samuel D. Brunson

Pace Environmental Law Review

Tens of thousands environmental charities operate with the United States. These charities operate to “preserve, protect, and improve the environment.” Roughly half of the revenue of environmental charities is sourced directly from the public. These public donations depend, at least in part, on the organizations’ tax-exempt status, which allows donors to deduct their donations for tax purposes. Because donors take into account the after-tax cost of their donations, an environmental charity’s tax exemption encourages donors to donate more than they would if the charity lacked a tax exemption. However, an environmental organization’s tax-exempt status is tenuous and contingent on agency …

Book Review Of To Save And To Destroy: Writing As An Other, Nguyen H B Le Oct 2025

Book Review Of To Save And To Destroy: Writing As An Other, Nguyen H B Le

Journal of Southeast Asian American Education and Advancement

Viet Thanh Nguyen’s To Save and to Destroy is a collection of his Norton lectures where he uses his generational stories of continuous immigration throughout Vietnam and the United States to explore how writing, with both internal and external experiences, shape our own identities, and forces that come into oppression, silence, and Otherness. In other words, the book depicts how he himself is seen from multiple others: “the Vietnamese, the Asian, the minoritized, the racialized, the colonized, the hybrid, the hyphenated, the refugee, the displaced, the artist, the writer, the smart ass, the bastard, the sympathizer, and the committed” (p. …

Personal Cultural Memory As Part Of Life Stories: Insights From Biographical Research On Japanese Canadian And Japanese American Wartime Experiences, Maria Wacławik

The Qualitative Report

The study focuses on the experiences of these communities during World War II, when they were displaced and incarcerated following the attack on Pearl Harbor. In the face of such traumatic events, the challenge arises in how individuals convey memories when words alone may not suffice. The main objective of this research was to determine, based on autobiographical narratives, the links between the memory of wartime experiences of Japanese Americans and Japanese Canadians and their ethnic identity. I do not analyze entire collections of mediated memories stored by narrators, but only those that were introduced during the interview as part …

Lomatce: Local Model-Agnostic Time Series Classification Explanations, Ephrem Tibebe Mekonnen, Luca Longo, Pierpaolo Dondio

Conference papers

Deep learning models perform exceptionally well in time series classification, but their lack of interpretability remains a significant challenge. Although explainable AI (XAI) techniques are well established for image and tabular data, adapting these methods to time series is challenging due to temporal dependencies. Existing feature importance methods often treat each time step as an independent feature, ignoring temporal relationships or segmenting the series into fixed-size windows, which can lead to the omission of critical subsequences. This paper introduces a novel, local, model-agnostic interpretability method designed explicitly for time series data without segmentation. The technique generates neighbouring samples by randomly …

Co-Net: From Nets To Nesting, Laura Del Pino Noriega

Open Access Conference

CO-NET was an international Design-Build initiative that brought together over forty students and faculty from the United States and China to build a series of experimental structures on Dongtou, an island near Wenzhou renowned for its fishing industry, ceramic artisans, and tidal landscapes. Developed through a four-month remote collaboration and an intensive on-site construction phase, the project explored the architectural potential of locally sourced waste materials—discarded fishing gear, construction debris, obsolete scaffolding, and plastic waste—through vernacular craft techniques and interdisciplinary design processes. CO-NET functioned as a pedagogical platform for material-driven design, emphasizing sustainability, circularity, and intercultural exchange.

FDLA Journal

Our country, which is today the Dominican Republic, is a Spanish speaking country due to the historical and well known fact that the then Hispaniola Island or Santo Domingo was split into two different colonies by effect of the Aranjuez Treaty (1777), held between the two Colonial Metropolis of Spain and France thus establishing the French occupation of the territory of Haiti to the West and the Spanish territory to the East, and producing therefore the establishing of two different countries with two different languages (Spanish and French), in a land (Quisqueya) in which in pre-Colombian times was occupied by …
