A Preliminary Volume In Progress: Interférences Linguistiques Et Culturelles Françaises En Afrique (French Linguistic And Cultural Interferences In Africa), Flavia Aiello, Maria Centrella, Anna Maria Di Tolla, Sarah N. Pinto Jan 2026

A Preliminary Volume In Progress: Interférences Linguistiques Et Culturelles Françaises En Afrique (French Linguistic And Cultural Interferences In Africa), Flavia Aiello, Maria Centrella, Anna Maria Di Tolla, Sarah N. Pinto

Faits de Langue et Société (FLS)

Drawn from the International Study Days held at the University of Naples L’Orientale (11–13 November 2021), Interférences linguistiques et culturelles françaises en Afrique brings together contributions that examine French in contact with African languages and cultures, from the Maghreb to Sub-Saharan Africa. Rather than offering a simple assessment of the “vitality” of French, the volume foregrounds interference phenomena and everyday practices (code-switching, lexical borrowing, and lexical innovation), alongside social representations and educational and media-related stakes. It therefore provides an interdisciplinary perspective on multilingual dynamics and processes of appropriation at the heart of contemporary African societies.

The First Amazigh Vocabulary In Arabic, Lameen Souag

Faits de Langue et Société (FLS)

There are words of Berber origin in all the dialects of North African Arabic. Its entry into Arabic is not limited to a single period, as some of them entered in the first Hegirian centuries and then spread with the spread of Arabic in the region, and others remained in use among the inhabitants of a particular region after being Arabised. later. The aim of this article is to identify the oldest of these vocabularies, according to the criteria of geographical distribution, genetic distribution, historical distribution and self-composition. This study shows that some of the earliest Amazigh vocabulary in Maghreb …

From Linguistic Heritage To Connected Environments: Language As An Analyzer Of Social Change, Nadia Kaaouas, Taoufik Ait Bouchgour

Faits de Langue et Société (FLS)

This issue of Faits de Langue et Société examines the links between communication, education, and interculturality through a double lens: linguistic heritage and digital mediation. Drawing on diverse settings and complementary approaches, it shows how language practices shape the circulation of meaning, the transmission of knowledge, and the construction of belonging in societies marked by linguistic plurality and socio-technical change.

Intelligent Skies: Deep Learning Architectures For Scalable Aviation Safety Systems, Amine Khelifi Jan 2026

Intelligent Skies: Deep Learning Architectures For Scalable Aviation Safety Systems, Amine Khelifi

Theses and Dissertations

The growing complexity of aviation operations, particularly in rotorcraft and vertical flight necessitates the development of intelligent, automated systems to enhance safety and situational awareness. This thesis investigates the application of artificial intelligence (AI), with a focus on deep learning (DL), to address critical safety challenges in aviation. Four core use cases are examined: helicopter cockpit flight data monitoring, runway detection, helipad segmentation, and obstacle localization around rotorcraft landing zones. Each application targets a specific gap in current aviation infrastructure, with an emphasis on operational needs identified by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). Leveraging a range of DL architectures, including …

Race And Patient-Physician Communication On Blood Pressure Management: Helping Improve Care, Samar A. Nasser, Ashley Pender, Ayan Ali, Kardie Tobb, Keith C. Ferdinand Jan 2026

Race And Patient-Physician Communication On Blood Pressure Management: Helping Improve Care, Samar A. Nasser, Ashley Pender, Ayan Ali, Kardie Tobb, Keith C. Ferdinand

Division of Cardiology Faculty Papers

PURPOSE OF REVIEW: To provide an overview of the relationship of race and ethnicity and patient-physician/clinician communication on blood pressure management.

RECENT FINDINGS: The suboptimal interactions experienced by patients from underrepresented racial and ethnic populations may be improved by enriching relationships among clinicians, population health scientists, policymakers, and community members/leaders. Current care communication and policies for managing hypertension appear to be insufficient. Implementing and disseminating effective strategies to efficiently improve the quality of hypertension care and recognize social determinants of health among minoritized populations is intertwined with enhanced communication.

SUMMARY: Approaches such as self-affirmation—encouraging patients to reflect on their strengths …

Characterization Of Social Media Use Patterns Among Hispanic/Latinx Dementia Caregivers And Its Impact On Mental Health, Sofia Mildrum Chana

ETDs from 2020-2029

Hispanic & Latinx (H&L) family caregivers of people living with Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias (ADRDs) experience high levels of stress that can negatively impact their mental health and may turn to social networking sites (SNS, commonly known as ‘social media’) for coping or social support. However, no research has yet examined how SNS use influences H&L caregiver mental health. The primary purpose of the present study was to characterize patterns of SNS use among H&L ADRD family caregivers and examine the associations between SNS use and caregivers’ mental health and well-being. Data for the present study come from the …

In-Situ Eval: A Modular Framework For Custom And Real-Time Rag Benchmarking, Ritvik Garimella, Kaushik Roy, Chathurangi Shyalika, Amit Sheth

Publications

Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) has become the standard approach for integrating domain knowledge into Large Language Models (LLMs). However, fair comparison of RAG pipelines remains difficult: data preparation is often ad hoc, subsampling methods are opaque, parameters vary across implementations, and evaluation is fragmented. We present In-Situ Eval, a unified and reproducible framework that operationalizes the full RAG pipeline with configurable subsampling strategies and both RAG-specific and generic evaluation metrics. The platform supports two execution modes: an offline Dataset mode for evaluating precomputed outputs, and a live Retrieval mode for benchmarking RAG variants with state-of-the-art LLMs. Users can flexibly select datasets, …
