Structural and social determinants of health are environmental conditions that affect individuals' health and functioning across the life course. These determinants are salient factors at the apex of individual psychology, community variables, and larger sociological factors, exerting prominent effects on individuals' wellbeing. The National Institute on Aging seeks to understand their influence on aging and Alzheimer's disease. We propose that the benefits of doing so may reach beyond knowledge of disease mechanisms - it may also improve clinical outcomes. We describe efforts introducing structural and social determinants of health data into the national network of Alzheimer's disease research centers. We …

Sensi-Train: Context-Aware Sensitive Content Detection Using Transformers And Large Language Models, Nazeefa Muzammil Feb 2026

Sensi-Train: Context-Aware Sensitive Content Detection Using Transformers And Large Language Models, Nazeefa Muzammil

USF Tampa Graduate Theses and Dissertations

The detection of sensitive content has become a critical task in natural language processing due to the widespread use of online platforms and the social harm caused by it. Even though current methods have advanced significantly, many of them mainly rely on surface-level text and neglect to take into consideration contextual and cultural elements that are crucial for correctly assessing sensitivity of any content to a particular individual. Due to this, implicit offense, sarcasm, and culturally grounded expressions frequently cause problems for such systems. To enable culturally grounded sensitive content detection, this thesis presents Sensi-Train, a context-rich dataset and modeling …

Bodies And Beyond: Reading Liminal Corporealities In Ambai’S Short Stories, Keerthana S Feb 2026

Bodies And Beyond: Reading Liminal Corporealities In Ambai’S Short Stories, Keerthana S

Journal of International Women's Studies

This article demonstrates how the Indian writer Ambai’s short stories construct counter-narratives to phallogocentric structures, opening up fresh avenues of theoretical engagement in the cultural context of Tamil Nadu, India. Despite advancements towards gender equality, cultural symbols and metaphors such as tali (ornament worn by Tamil women denoting their marital status), karpu (chastity), and veera tai (valorous mother), often govern the lives of women to a great extent. I argue that Ambai’s stories both resist the hegemonic constraints of such cultural symbols and also endeavour to reconfigure them. Ambai’s renderings of cultural semiotics enable women to experience their bodies removed …

Feminist Reflexivity In Practice: Addressing Positionality And Building Sisterhood Through Fieldwork With Black Migrant Sex Workers In Istanbul, Yeliz Kendir-Gök

Journal of International Women's Studies

This article addresses feminist reflexivity and researcher positionality in ethnographic fieldwork with undocumented Ugandan women sex workers in Istanbul’s Tarlabaşı and Aksaray neighborhoods. Drawing on fourteen months of immersive research, including participant observation, semi-structured interviews, and reflexive journaling, the study examines how both the researcher and participants engaged in strategic forms of resistance within racialized and gendered urban spaces. The analysis is grounded in a feminist epistemological framework that draws on Kandiyoti’s notion of patriarchal bargaining and Scott’s theory of hidden transcripts. Findings reveal how participants and the researcher used subtle forms of resistance, such as strategic silence or performative …

Penal Protection For Women In Jordan: How Compatible Are International Agreements And Jordanian Legislation?, Hasan Altarawneh, Hamzeh Abu Issa

Journal of International Women's Studies

This article analyses the degree to which Jordanian penal legislation conforms to international human rights standards regarding the protection of women from violence, specifically the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women (CEDAW) and the United Nations Bangkok Rules. Jordan has implemented legislative reforms targeting gender-based violence; however, these reforms are incomplete, disjointed, and frequently misaligned with international standards. This study employs a doctrinal methodology to analyse Articles 292–311 of the Jordanian Penal Code and associated procedural rules, assessing their substantive and procedural provisions in relation to international legal obligations. This analysis includes rulings from the …

Migration Narratives Of Ukrainian Women In South Tyrol: A Comparison Of Pre- And Post-War Experiences, Giulia Isetti, Irem Güney-Frahm Feb 2026

Migration Narratives Of Ukrainian Women In South Tyrol: A Comparison Of Pre- And Post-War Experiences, Giulia Isetti, Irem Güney-Frahm

Journal of International Women's Studies

Through qualitative interviews with Ukrainian women who migrated to South Tyrol, Italy before and after the 2022 Russian invasion, this paper explores the experiences, motivations, challenges, and integration strategies of these migrants. Findings highlight the gendered nature of migration, as Ukrainian women often face occupational downgrading, in which they are forced to work in low-skilled sectors due to language barriers, bureaucratic hurdles, and labour market discrimination. Social integration remains a challenge particularly among post-war arrivals. Unlike other Orthodox Christian migrant groups, respondents report weak communal solidarity, although individual acts of support from local organizations and colleagues mitigate isolation. Finally, the …

An Archival Responsibility: A Scoping Review Of Literature Regarding The Documentary Burdens Of Refugees, Ana Roeschley, Kinza Alizai, Crystal Tharayil, Amy Lanier, Merrion D. Frederick, Homero R. Cuevas Feb 2026

An Archival Responsibility: A Scoping Review Of Literature Regarding The Documentary Burdens Of Refugees, Ana Roeschley, Kinza Alizai, Crystal Tharayil, Amy Lanier, Merrion D. Frederick, Homero R. Cuevas

Journal of Contemporary Archival Studies

Documented individuals who do not live in conflict zones can usually access and use their records to migrate, begin new careers, enroll their children in educational institutions, and gain access to healthcare through mostly routine record-related procedures. However, these standard processes become impossible obstacles for refugees when they lose access to their personal records as part of their forced displacement. Though ever-present for refugees, these documentary burdens are compounded in times of societal crises and political upheaval—times when documentation is most critical. If archivists and archival scholars are to address these issues, it is important to understand the scope of …

Spelling With Tears: (Re)Thinking The Phonics-Spelling Connection, Meghan K. Block, Kristen L. White Feb 2026

Spelling With Tears: (Re)Thinking The Phonics-Spelling Connection, Meghan K. Block, Kristen L. White

Michigan Reading Journal

Many elementary students perform well on weekly spelling tests but struggle to apply those same words in their everyday reading and writing. This article explores why spelling and phonics instruction often feel disconnected in classrooms and how that disconnect affects children’s literacy development. Using a classroom vignette, teacher perspectives, and research, we argue for integrating spelling into meaningful reading and writing experiences. We share practical, classroom-ready recommendations—including word study, morphology instruction, games, and authentic writing—to help teachers make spelling purposeful, engaging, and transferable.

Letters Across Languages: Building Community, Agency, And Joy Through Multilingual Penpalship Program, Yetunde S. Alabede

Michigan Reading Journal

This reflective article explores the Multilingual Pen-Pal Program, a free, community-based initiative that connects children across Nigeria and the diaspora through letter writing and storytelling. Grounded in ẹ̀bùngogy, an offshoot of ẹ̀bùnlingualism, a framework that views language transmission as a communal gift, the program embodies teaching as gifting. Through translanguaging, storying, and reflexivity, children and families engage in multilingual literacy practices that center care, reciprocity, and joy. This article highlights how the program bridges theory and practice, offering teachers practical ways to cultivate culturally sustaining and multilingual classrooms where literacy becomes a shared, liberatory act of connection.

The Authority Tone Risk In Ai Assistants: Detecting When Confident Language Outruns Evidence, Pranav Bhatnagar Mr Feb 2026

The Authority Tone Risk In Ai Assistants: Detecting When Confident Language Outruns Evidence, Pranav Bhatnagar Mr

Defensive Publications Series

In production environments, the failure mode is rarely obvious hallucination. The more dangerous pattern is quieter: the model delivers a clean, decisive answer in situations where the underlying support is thin, conditional, or incomplete. The wording is polished. The structure is confident. Users move forward. Only later does the gap surface. That gap between how certain the system sounds and how much evidence actually exists is where trust begins to drift off course. This paper formalizes that risk as Authority Tone Risk (ATR) and introduces a practical detection layer built for real deployments. The framework measures assertiveness signals against evidence …

The Ai Hesitation Signal: Detecting When Models Know But Don’T Say, Pranav Bhatnagar Mr Feb 2026

The Ai Hesitation Signal: Detecting When Models Know But Don’T Say, Pranav Bhatnagar Mr

Defensive Publications Series

In production systems, capability loss often hides behind polite uncertainty. Models that are technically able to provide useful, specific guidance sometimes respond with unnecessary hedging, generic deferrals, or softened language that reduces operational value. The system is not wrong. It is holding back. This paper defines that pattern as the AI Hesitation Signal (AHS) and treats it as a measurable behavioral condition rather than anecdotal user frustration. The proposed framework identifies situations where the assistant’s expressed uncertainty is disproportionate to the task context and available support. By jointly analyzing linguistic hesitation markers, response specificity, contextual risk posture, and historical capability …

Ai Response Consistency Checker Detecting Cross-Response Contradictions In Generative Systems, Pranav Bhatnagar Mr Feb 2026

Ai Response Consistency Checker Detecting Cross-Response Contradictions In Generative Systems, Pranav Bhatnagar Mr

Defensive Publications Series

Generative AI systems are increasingly deployed in environments where users rely on multiple responses across sessions, prompts, or conversational turns to inform decisions. While individual outputs may appear internally coherent, large language models can produce subtle or overt contradictions when queried repeatedly on related topics, especially under context variation or prompt rephrasing. These cross-response inconsistencies can degrade user trust, propagate analytical errors, and introduce governance risks in enterprise AI deployments. Traditional validation approaches typically evaluate single responses in isolation and therefore fail to capture this emerging class of reliability failure. This disclosure introduces an AI Response Consistency Checker, a supervisory …

Black Women’S Critical And Racial Literacy Practices In Higher Education, Cherita Harrell Feb 2026

Black Women’S Critical And Racial Literacy Practices In Higher Education, Cherita Harrell

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

The problem addressed through this study was the limited understanding of how Black female college students experienced critical and racial literacy practices within college-level reading and writing courses, particularly within dominant literacy frameworks that privileged White, Eurocentric norms of language, knowledge, expression, and representation. Grounded in Luke’s critical literacy and Sealey-Ruiz’s racial literacy frameworks, the purpose of this qualitative study was to examine how Black female college students described their experiences in reading and writing courses, including how dominant literacy frameworks influenced their engagement in ways that limited expression, created barriers to participation, and shaped their academic experiences and personal …

Building A Pathway Of Genai-Enabled Capabilities For Supply Chain Management, Mario Henrique Callefi, Elza Magalhães, Léony Luis Lopes Negrão, Matthias Thürer, Janaina Siegler, Ivan Tomašević, Moacir Godinho Filho Feb 2026

Building A Pathway Of Genai-Enabled Capabilities For Supply Chain Management, Mario Henrique Callefi, Elza Magalhães, Léony Luis Lopes Negrão, Matthias Thürer, Janaina Siegler, Ivan Tomašević, Moacir Godinho Filho

Scholarship and Professional Work - Business

The integration of Generative Artificial Intelligence (GenAI) into Supply Chain Management (SCM) has accelerated rapidly. However, limited understanding exists on how GenAI-enabled capabilities should be prioritised to create sustained value. Existing research predominantly describes applications but overlooks the hierarchical structure of underlying capabilities required for effective adoption. In response, this study develops a capability-oriented framework grounded in the Task Technology Fit (TTF) perspective. A Systematic Literature Review identified capabilities, which were refined via Fuzzy Delphi and structured using Interpretive Structural Modeling (ISM) with Fuzzy MICMAC. The resulting framework was corroborated through secondary case analyses of DHL Supply Chain and Walmart, …

Individualizing Social-Emotional Learning For Infants And Toddlers With Special Needs, Charlotte Marie Quiñones Feb 2026

Individualizing Social-Emotional Learning For Infants And Toddlers With Special Needs, Charlotte Marie Quiñones

Theses and Dissertations

Infants and toddlers develop socially and emotionally at different rates, and children with special needs face added challenges that require intentional support. Social-emotional learning (SEL) in the earliest years builds the foundation for school readiness, relationships, and lifelong success. This qualitative case study explored how infant and toddler teachers individualize SEL for children with special needs in one inclusive, culturally diverse early childhood program. Four teachers participated through semi-structured interviews, classroom observations, and a focus group. Program documents and lesson plans supplemented the data. Guided by the SEFEL framework, double-loop learning, and culturally responsive pedagogy, the study found that teachers …

The Urgency Inflation Problem In Ai-Generated Promotions, Pranav Bhatnagar Mr Feb 2026

The Urgency Inflation Problem In Ai-Generated Promotions, Pranav Bhatnagar Mr

Defensive Publications Series

Generative AI systems are increasingly embedded within modern marketing pipelines, enabling organizations to produce high volumes of promotional copy with minimal human intervention. While these systems significantly improve content velocity and engagement optimization, they also introduce a subtle but material compliance and trust risk. In many real-world deployments, AI-generated marketing language exhibits amplified urgency signals such as artificial scarcity, time pressure framing, and exaggerated limited-availability claims that are not always proportionate to actual campaign constraints. Because these systems are frequently optimized for conversion performance, they may systematically favor phrasing that heightens perceived urgency even when supporting inventory, timing, or promotional …

Ai-Generated Copy Risk: Detecting Persuasive But Misleading Marketing Content, Pranav Bhatnagar Mr Feb 2026

Ai-Generated Copy Risk: Detecting Persuasive But Misleading Marketing Content, Pranav Bhatnagar Mr

Defensive Publications Series

Generative AI systems are increasingly used to produce marketing copy at scale, enabling rapid content creation across advertising, product descriptions, and customer engagement channels. While these systems improve efficiency and linguistic quality, they introduce a growing compliance risk: AI-generated content may appear highly persuasive while containing exaggerated, unsupported, or contextually misleading claims. Such outputs can expose organizations to regulatory scrutiny, brand trust erosion, and downstream legal liability. This disclosure introduces a detection framework for AI-Generated Copy Risk, focused on identifying persuasive marketing language that exceeds verifiable product support or approved messaging boundaries. The proposed system analyzes claim intensity, evidentiary grounding, …

The Ai Trust Mirage: Detecting When Confident Outputs Betray Reality, Pranav Bhatnagar Mr Feb 2026

The Ai Trust Mirage: Detecting When Confident Outputs Betray Reality, Pranav Bhatnagar Mr

Defensive Publications Series

Large language models increasingly generate responses that are fluent, structured, and delivered with strong apparent confidence. While this improves usability, it introduces a subtle operational risk: users often interpret linguistic certainty as evidence strength. In practice, model confidence signals and underlying factual support are not always aligned. This disclosure introduces the concept of the AI Trust Mirage, a condition in which AI outputs appear highly reliable despite weak, missing, or poorly grounded supporting evidence. The proposed framework detects confidence–evidence mismatch by jointly analyzing linguistic certainty markers, response structure, citation grounding, and contextual support signals. A composite Mirage Risk Score (MRS) …

Quality Improvement Project: Impact Of National Culturally And Linguistically Appropriate Services (Clas) Standards Education On Behavioral Health Providers’ Self-Efficacy, Zita Anigbou

Doctor of Nursing Practice Projects

Health disparities among culturally and linguistically diverse populations continue to negatively affect access to and quality of behavioral health care. Limited provider education on the National Culturally and Linguistically Appropriate Services (CLAS) Standards contributes to communication barriers, reduced therapeutic engagement, and lower provider confidence. The purpose of this quality improvement project was to evaluate the impact of evidence-based CLAS Standards education on behavioral health providers’ self-efficacy in delivering culturally and linguistically appropriate care. Guided by Lewin’s Change Theory and the Health Equity Implementation Framework, a quantitative pre-test–post-test quasi-experimental design was used. A convenience sample of three behavioral health nurse practitioners …
