Internet Journal of Allied Health Sciences and Practice
Purpose: Shared decision making (SDM) in health care teams involves partnering with the patient and family to consider treatment options, prioritizing their values and preferences while collaboratively determining the best care plan. Previous research on SDM in rural South India has only focused on adult populations receiving in-person care. This study aimed to understand parent perception of the SDM approach implemented in telerehabilitation services offered by Amar Seva Sangam Ayikudy to children with disabilities in a rural Southern Indian setting. Methods: A convergent parallel mixed-methods design was utilized. Quantitative data was collected from 187 participants using a SDM measure …

The Effect Of A Mindfulness-Based Program On Musculoskeletal Pain And Function, Christine Conroy, Kent E. Irwin, Paige Dougherty, Teresa Elliott-Burke
Internet Journal of Allied Health Sciences and Practice
Purpose: Mindfulness-based Stress Reduction (MBSR) is a structured therapeutic tool that was developed in the 1980s by Kabat-Zinn and colleagues. Mindfulness-based interventions (MBIs) have been developed based on the fundamental principles of MBSR and are an emerging area of research. These programs are used to decrease pain levels and kinesiophobia in patients with chronic disease and pain. The purpose of this case study is to describe the effects of MBIs on function and pain for a middle-aged patient, two-month post-proximal humerus fracture. Method: A 53-year-old woman presented status post closed fracture of the proximal right humerus resulting from a …

When Compliance Eats The Customer: Ai Overreach In Regulated Experience Systems (How Regulatory Fear Quietly Degrades Customer Journeys In Safety-First Ai Deployments), Pranav Bhatnagar Mr
Defensive Publications Series
Customer-facing AI was supposed to make digital experiences faster, smoother, and more personalized. In heavily regulated environments, something more complicated is unfolding. As compliance layers accumulate around production systems, many assistants are becoming impeccably safe and increasingly frustrating to use. Responses grow longer, refusals appear in low-risk scenarios, and basic customer journeys begin to feel like they are negotiating with a legal department. This paper defines this pattern as AI Compliance Overreach (ACO) and frames it as a measurable degradation of customer experience driven by disproportionate regulatory pressure. The proposed Customer Experience Suppression Index (CESI) quantifies when guardrail intensity begins …

The Effectiveness Of Parent-Child Interaction Therapy: A Multilevel Meta-Analysis, Rana Hong, Jeong Ok Lee, Sanghee Lee, Shweta Singh
Social Work: School of Social Work Faculty Publications and Other Works
Objectives: Parent–child interaction therapy (PCIT) is an empirically supported treatment (EST) initially developed to help parents manage difficult behaviors in preschoolers aged 2–7 years. Given its proven effectiveness across diverse populations, this meta-analysis aims to evaluate its effectiveness for Koreans using studies from 1991 to 2022. Methods: A total of 11 studies (n = 201 children; 224 parents) met the criteria for this meta-analysis. Results: A robust pooled effect size (μ= –0.31, 95% CI [–0.44, –0.17], p < .001) for PCIT across all study designs were found. Three-level random-effects meta-regressions further confirmed a significant pooled effect (μ = –0.81, 95% CI [–1.12, –0.50], p < .001), indicating that PCIT effects were consistently significant across studies. Subgroup analyses revealed significant reductions in externalizing behavior, parenting stress, and parent depression. Discussion and implications: This study contributes to the growing body of evidence on the cultural applicability of PCIT to Korean families

Synthesis Of An Adaptive Synergistic Fuzzy Discrete Controller For Nonlinear Systems, Isamidin Xakimovich Sidikov, Gulruxsor Murot Qizi Nashvandova, Feruzakhon Botirxon Qizi Sodiqova
Chemical Technology, Control and Management
The paper considers the issues of synthesizing an adaptive fuzzy synergetic controller with discrete time for nonstationary nonlinear dynamic objects. The proposed approach is based on the integrated use of synergetic control principles and fuzzy logic methods, which ensure the formation of a control law for nonlinear dynamic objects that provides asymptotic stability of the control system. Such a hybrid combination makes it possible to guarantee the asymptotic stability of the closed-loop system and to shape the required dynamic behavior of the object over a wide range of operating modes. In addition, this approach provides the ability to adapt to …

The Bidirectional Effects Of Engaging In Hazard Perception And Work-Related Phone Calls, Hannah V. Pannell
The Bidirectional Effects Of Engaging In Hazard Perception And Work-Related Phone Calls, Hannah V. Pannell
USF Tampa Graduate Theses and Dissertations
This research investigates the bidirectional effects of conducting work-related phone negotiations during a driving task. With the prevalence of multitasking in today's fast-paced environments, understanding the effects of dual-task interference is critical for enhancing road safety and workplace efficiency. Experiment 1 established a foundational understanding that multitasking negatively affects both driving ability and negotiation outcomes. Experiment 2 employed an accomplice script to standardize negotiation quality, revealing that while dual-tasking again impaired driving performance, focused negotiators earned more points on the integrative items and overall. Analyses of negotiation behaviors further indicate differences in the use of distributive behaviors. Together, these experiments …

Artist Statements As Colectiva: Informed By Lived Experiences And Anzaldúan Theories, Christen Sperry García, Elizabeth Gonzalez, Alexis Marie Ramos
Journal of Social Theory in Art Education
As visual artists, our ability to explain process and convey meaning in our work is very important. Our BFA and MFA studio art programs trained us to write clear, concise, and universal artist statements. We were encouraged to highlight the concepts behind our visual work and discouraged from including our personal narratives or employing Chicane or Latine bodies of knowledge. In response, we apply theories and methodologies by Gloria Anzaldúa to our artist statements. First, we offer a framework of testimonio, Borderlands theory, and autohistoria-teoría. Using the methodology of nepantlando, a creative doing of existing in-between worlds, we …
Civil Liability In Airbnb Transactions And The Legal Gaps In Consumer Protection In Vietnam, Tuan Ngoc Tran
Civil Liability In Airbnb Transactions And The Legal Gaps In Consumer Protection In Vietnam, Tuan Ngoc Tran
International Journal on Consumer Law and Practice
The rapid growth of the collaborative or sharing economy has posed numerous challenges to traditional legal systems, particularly in relation to short-term accommodation. As a decentralized, intermediary platform, Airbnb raises complex legal issues concerning the allocation of civil liability, enforceability of contracts, and mechanisms for consumer protection. In the context of Vietnamese law, where there is a lack of clear regulatory frameworks to govern digital platforms, consumers risk having their rights infringed without effective legal remedies. The article focuses on three core issues: the legal classification of hosts on Airbnb, the enforceability of clickwrap contracts, and the cross-border enforceability of …

Korean Words In The Oed: Race, Gender, And The Modern English Speaker, Elaine W. Chun
Faculty Publications
This article examines representations of the Modern English Speaker of Korean (MESK) in the Oxford English Dictionary (OED), as lexicographers listened to and documented the language of this figure over the past century. I show that, until the early twenty-first century, the most salient type of MESK was the Koreanist, a white, masculine expert on and translator of Korean, the language of a racial other. By contrast, more recent Korean entries, influenced by the global spread of hallyu, have invoked the Korea Fan, a figure that potentially unsettles longstanding ideologies of language, race, and gender. I …

Triste Souvenir Et Sombre Avenir, « Lettre À Ma Sœur » (2006) De Habiba Djahnine, Boualem Khelifati
Regards
This article explores how Letter to My Sister (2006), a film by director and poet Habiba Djahnine dedicated to her sister Nabila, a democratic and feminist activist who was murdered by Islamist terrorists in Tizi Ouzou in 1995, revisits the fate of the direct and indirect victims of Algeria’s dark decade of the 1990s and the repressive religious and state policies towards women. It employs a narrative structure that combines several film genres – film-letter, film-journey, film-poem, and film-archive – showing situations in which memories and pain are shared, as well as the necessary perpetuation of a struggle that is …

Leveraging Csr To Buffer Brand Challenges During Crises: A Saudi Arabian Perspective, Nouf Alrayes, Abdullah Alhidari
Journal of Marketing and Consumer Behaviour in Emerging Markets
Crises, such as economic downturns or global health pandemics, pose significant business challenges. Engaging in CSR initiatives that contribute to societal well-being can help mitigate the negative consequences of crises, reinforce customer gratitude, and minimize corporate hypocrisy. CSR is critical in shaping a company’s accountability and ethical responsibilities. Consequently, there is an opportunity for the firm to see the role of CSR and how it affects customers’ responses and attitudes during any difficult situation. Drawing upon attribution theory and the customer gratitude reciprocity cycle, a conceptual framework was developed to test the impact of CSR on the variables: corporate hypocrisy, …

Bot-Theology: Inviting, Prosperous, And (In)Authentic Community, Daniel Jesse
University Faculty Publications and Creative Works
The paper analyzes the theology, emotions, and community formation of the bots who post on YouTube and the people who respond to them. The paper finds that the bots’ theology is evangelical, charismatic, and prosperity-oriented. The paper also finds that the people who respond to the bots are sincere, supportive, and expressive, and that they create a virtual community of faith that is joyful, hopeful, and trusting. The paper suggests that virtual gatherings of Christians need more scholarly attention and that more research is needed on the emotional formation and theological implications of these online interactions.

Collar Correction For Lenity: Modifying The Rule Of Lenity To Promote More Equitable Application To White-Collar And Blue-Collar Defendants, Brennan Corriston
Fordham Law Review Online
Centuries ago in England, when most crimes were punishable by death, judges—aware of the unfairness of this system—construed penal statutes narrowly. This was “to stem the march to the gallows” and to protect citizens from this overly harsh regime. From these harsh origins arose the rule of lenity, which instructs that when the scope of a criminal statute is ambiguous, courts should select the less harsh—i.e., more lenient—interpretation of the statute. This principle can serve constitutional functions: lenity safeguards due process by ensuring that the public has fair notice about the reach of criminal laws, and it safeguards separation of …

Coaching Parents To Use Naturalistic Developmental Behavioral Interventions, Lin Zhu, Kerry Kisinger
Coaching Parents To Use Naturalistic Developmental Behavioral Interventions, Lin Zhu, Kerry Kisinger
The Journal of Special Education Apprenticeship
This practitioner article examines the use of Naturalistic Developmental Behavioral Interventions (NDBIs) to enhance communication skills through the vignette of a 4-year-old with speech delays. Through brief coaching sessions, the child’s parents learned techniques like imitation and prompting, integrating them into daily routines to improve vocal communication. The intervention highlighted the effectiveness of engaging caregivers as active participants and tailoring strategies to family contexts, leading to positive outcomes for both the child and family. This article outlines the procedures for practitioners to coach parents to implement evidence-based practices that can promote academic and behavioral growth in a naturalistic setting.

Living Under Contract: An Lpe Analysis Of American Democracy, Amy J. Cohen, Ilana Gershon
Living Under Contract: An Lpe Analysis Of American Democracy, Amy J. Cohen, Ilana Gershon
University of Chicago Law Review
Is President Donald Trump appealing in part because he has made contracts seem like provisional arrangements likely to endure only insofar as they serve his (or putatively national) interests? Two political economy studies of U.S. workplaces and firms, one ethnographic and one historical, can begin to shed light. Ilana Gershon’s ethnography explores how people’s everyday legal and political consciousness is formed through their experiences of regulatory decision-making in a contract filled workplace. Sociologist Melinda Cooper’s historical account reveals how a turn to viewing corporations as a conglomeration of individual contracts paved the way for a veneration of autocratic rule. In …

Evaluating The Effectiveness Of Ai Text Humanising Tools In Reducing Ai Detection In Ai-Generated Texts By Ai Detectors, Samuel Nicodemus Epaphras, Fredrick Mtenzi
Institute for Educational Development, East Africa
The use of Generative Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools, such as Gemini and ChatGPT, is on the rise, and it has revolutionised content generation in professional and academic domains. However, their increasing sophistication presents challenges in distinguishing AI-generated texts from human-written ones, raising concerns about integrity, especially in academic writing. This study evaluated the effectiveness of three AI text humanising tools: Writesonic, QuillBot paraphraser, and WriteHuman in refining texts generated by ChatGPT and Gemini. The study employed a comparative experimental design. By employing quantitative analysis, the study compares baseline AI detection rates with those after successive humanisation iterations. Comparison was also …
On Signifiable Computability: Part Iii: A Note On Unnameable Functions On Natural Numbers, Vladimir A. Kulyukin
On Signifiable Computability: Part Iii: A Note On Unnameable Functions On Natural Numbers, Vladimir A. Kulyukin
Computer Science Faculty and Staff Publications
A writing system 𝔚 on an alphabet 𝒜 is a tuple (ℜ,𝔐), where ℜ is a finite set of text formation rules and 𝔐 is a finite rule application mechanism that generates texts on 𝒜. A natural writing system forms natural language texts on an alphabet such as Sanskrit on Devanagari. An artificial writing system generates formal language texts on an alphabet such as Lisp on Unicode. Let ℕ ={0,1,2,…} be the set of natural numbers. A function on natural numbers 𝑓 :ℕ𝑘 ↦ ℕ, 0 < 𝑘 ∈ ℕ, is nameable by a writing system on an alphabet if, and only if, the system can generate a text on the alphabet that names f and no other function. We show that there exist functions on natural numbers unnameable in principle in that they cannot be named by any writing system on any alphabet. Our results imply the following computability-theoretic hierarchy of functions on natural numbers: computable ⊊ partially computable ⊊ nameable ⊊ 𝔉, where 𝔉 is the set of functions on ℕ.

Argument-Based Consistency In Toxicity Explanations Of Llms, Ramaravind K. Mothilal, Joanna Roy, Syed Ishtiaque Ahmed, Shion Guha
Health Services and Informatics Research
The discourse around toxicity and LLMs in NLP largely revolves around detection tasks. This work shifts the focus to evaluating LLMs’ reasoning about toxicity—from their explanations that justify a stance—to enhance their trustworthiness in downstream tasks. Despite extensive research on explainability, it is not straightforward to adopt existing methods to evaluate free-form toxicity explanation due to their over-reliance on input text perturbations, among other challenges. To account for these, we propose a novel, theoretically-grounded multi-dimensional criterion, Argument-based Consistency (ArC), that measures the extent to which LLMs’ free-form toxicity explanations reflect an ideal and logical argumentation process. Based on uncertainty quantification, …
