Doctoral Dissertations and Projects
The purpose of this transcendental phenomenology study was to discover the experiences that elementary teachers have had regarding changes or adaptations to their instructional practices in the transition to the implementation to the Common Core State Standards (CCSS). The central research question that guided the study was based on the purpose of the study: What are the experiences that elementary teachers have had regarding changes or adaptations to their instructional practices in the transition to the implementation to the CCSS? Transcendental phenomenology was the methodological approach in this investigation because the goal was to describe the meanings of the experiences …

Although decolonial thought from Latin America and the Caribbean is a multifaceted field of research and sociopolitical praxis, it is often interpreted monolithically. To refuse this tendency, we argue that it is imperative to trace decolonial theory’s intellectual genealogies and engage in transgressive decolonial hermeneutics to re-interpret texts (theories) according to their living socio-historical and geopolitical contexts. Following Stuart Hall’s lead, we first sketch out the geopolitical and sociocultural exigencies that allow for theoretical movements to unfold, paying more attention to the geopolitical implications of thinking “from” Latin America and the Caribbean. Second, we address the ethical imperative of thinking …

Parental Stress Factors During The Cpse To Cse Transition: A Quantitative, Quasi-Experimental, Static-Group Study, Christine Elizabeth Iturriaga
Doctoral Dissertations and Projects
The purpose of this quantitative research study was to determine if a statistically significant difference existed between parental stress factors related to the transition process between pre-kindergarten and kindergarten, using the Committee on Preschool Special Education to Committee on Special Education transition process, of parents who were exposed to a workshop and those who were not. The study administered a parent survey from the Parenting Stress Index, Fourth Edition Professional Manual. The research addressed if exposure to a workshop on the transition process would decrease stress factors in parents of children who attended a self-contained setting (4410 programs). The study …

Does Working Memory Predict Preference To Use Inherent Explanations In Scientific Observations? A Bayesian Item Response Theory Approach, Sepideh Namvarrad
Does Working Memory Predict Preference To Use Inherent Explanations In Scientific Observations? A Bayesian Item Response Theory Approach, Sepideh Namvarrad
Theses - ALL
Understanding the cognitive processes that help people generate explanations is one of the fundamental questions in cognitive science and philosophy. In this study, we try to examine the extent to which working memory capacity can predict peoples’ preference for scientific explanations under uncertainty. Specifically, we distinguish between possible explanations in terms of their focus on inherent vs. extrinsic entities associated with an observation. According to past findings, inherent vs. extrinsic properties of a phenomenon are different in terms of the ease of accessibility for cognitive processes. The results of this research indicate a significant association between people’s tendencies to choose …

Marketers always incline to deliver advertising messages to the right consumer at the right time. Yet, the question of when exactly should such a persuasive message be sent to a consumer remains elusive in the existing literature. The current study aims to address this research question within the theoretical framework of contextual marketing. The authors argue that contextual information such as time and weather can be used to design more effective mobile advertising campaigns on social media. The results of a field experiment in cooperation with a local restaurant suggest that ads delivered at consumers’ pre-decision stage (i.e., non-meal time) …

Syntactic Structure Of Tree Diagram As A Method Of Teaching Translating English Sentences Into Arabic, Shaden Shamel Abdullah
Syntactic Structure Of Tree Diagram As A Method Of Teaching Translating English Sentences Into Arabic, Shaden Shamel Abdullah
Midad AL-Adab Refereed Quarterly Journal
Translation as a broad notion can be defined in various ways by different theorists; to translate from one language into another is not an easy task due to the cultural differences. Today translation is not restricted to entering the college to graduate and get a degree in translation. But it is enough to have knowledge of both languages and linguistic ability of translation. To practice translation as a profession is different from teaching it. The present study has explained what is meant by teaching translation, the characteristics of teaching and offers a method of teaching which is the first in …

Évaluation Les Techniques De La Traduction De Quelques Acronyme Anglais Dans Les Dictionnaires Anglais -Arabe., Maître De Conférences. Dr. Thamir F. Iskandar
Midad AL-Adab Refereed Quarterly Journal

Developing Strategy Knowledge For Vocabulary Learning In Speaking English As Second Language, Inst. Dr. Ayad Enad Khalaf
Midad AL-Adab Refereed Quarterly Journal
Learners of English as a second language would like to learn all the language and master its four skills. Many learners may not know from where to start. Many learners may ask such questions; what should I do to learn English? How can I start? If ESL teachers followed effective strategies for teaching vocabulary, they could facilitate students’ proficiency in the four skills of English. Strategies of learning are many and various, but the more important is to raise the awareness of learners about these strategies. Developing of the metacognition of learners about strategies can lead to effective independent learning. …

Pin-pointing the components of cognitive poetic schema (CPS) used by EFL undergraduate students for interpreting English poems. 2. Identifying students' level of performance in English CPS. 3. As a kind of linguistic study, the study of presupposition in the drama is one of the captivating topics to explore, because of the capability of this topic to make people perceive the presupposition differently. Presupposition is one of the most important concepts in linguistics. It refers to the implicit inferences made in communication between people. These inferences are necessary to understand the utterances correctly. The research particularly endeavors to focus on the linguistic constructions that activate presupposition. This study focuses on tense variation as linguistic features of narrative performance using Schiffrin’s (1981) theory of tense variation supported by Labov’s (1972) and Ochs and Cap’s (2001) frameworks of narrative structure. It shows that historical present also performs evaluative function and appears in restricted clauses in progressive aspect indicating the overlap on time between two actions. Shifts into narrative past tense also perform an evaluative function and appears in contexts narrating unexpected event within the complication. Generic and nominalising actions are used to express negative evaluation of an opponent based on an earlier premise. These findings can bring new …

This is where the linguistic meaning is consistent And Quranic use of it. It is not, as he was known …
