Generative Ai To Support College Students During The Writing Process, Damionie Vernon May 2026

Generative Ai To Support College Students During The Writing Process, Damionie Vernon

Theses

The growing integration of Generative Artificial Intelligence (GAI) in higher education raises important questions about its role in supporting college students during the writing process. I used a mixed-methods approach, with a focus on quantitative questionnaires and qualitative written artifacts, to analyze patterns of GAI usage and perceptions by testing 34 college students. My thesis will explore these questions: (1) How do college students approach writing tasks in college?, (2) How do college students utilize generative AI to assist with writing tasks?, (3) What are the perceptions of college students on the use of generative AI to assist with writing …

The Voice As A Coordinated Bodily System: Embodied Learning, Anatomy, And Vocal Pedagogy, Ge Hope Tian Apr 2026

The Voice As A Coordinated Bodily System: Embodied Learning, Anatomy, And Vocal Pedagogy, Ge Hope Tian

The Transdisciplinary STEAM+ Journal

This reflective article examines the limitations of control-based approaches in traditional vocal training and proposes a shift toward understanding the voice as an integrated, coordinated bodily system. Drawing on personal experience, the author highlights how common instructional language - focused on outcomes such as resonance, support, and projection - often leads singers to apply excessive effort, resulting in tension, inefficiency, and vocal strain. By distinguishing between localized control and whole-body coordination, the reflection illustrates how sustainable vocal function emerges not through muscular manipulation but through balanced, dynamic organization of breath, posture, and sound. The author traces a transformative learning process …

Mita Y Mita: Bilingualism Beyond Identity Borders, Belén S. Yudess Apr 2026

Mita Y Mita: Bilingualism Beyond Identity Borders, Belén S. Yudess

The Transdisciplinary STEAM+ Journal

“Mita Mita” asks audiences to reflect on the often discordant nature of identity development and how language, culture, and community impact this understanding. This piece is inspired by Gloria Anzaldua’s creation of the “mita y mita” framework in relation to border identity and politics theory as a way to conceptualize the doubling of identity that occurs between binaries. Through this lens, I attempt to dismantle the borders I have constructed around my identities by analyzing how reclaiming my name has begun to mend my sociocultural insecurities. As you engage with this material, I encourage you to let down your guard …

Little Africa In Global China: Transnational Nigerians In Guangzhou And The Making Of Xiaobei, Tess L. Nestel

Young Historians Conference

This paper will examine the history and development of transnationalism fostered by Nigerians in Guangzhou, China, after the late 1990s. Spurred in part by the Asian Financial Crisis, Nigerian men flocked to Guangzhou’s thriving import-export economy. They established the ethnic enclave of Xiaobei, where many lived and engaged in the informal wholesale economy. Nigerians existed between the cultural boundaries of Xiaobei and Lagos, where they constantly returned. Both the export economy in Guangzhou and the resale economy in Lagos’ street markets were deeply influenced by one another through entrepreneurial migrants. This paper will provide a general overview of the many …

Unraveling The Path From Stress To Coping Among Indonesian Emerging Adults: The Role Of Cognitive Flexibility, Stephanie Yuanita Indrasari, Sri Hartati Suradijono, Lucia R.M. Royanto

Psychological Research on Urban Society

Abstract

Emerging adulthood (ages 18-25) is a developmental stage marked by significant life transitions, which can heighten stress levels. In Indonesia, urban dynamics and socio-cultural pressures further intensify this stress among emerging adults. Cognitive flexibility, the ability to adaptively shift thoughts and strategies in response to changing circumstances, is an important factor in effective coping. This study examined the relationships among stress and adaptive coping, with cognitive flexibility playing a role as a mediator, among Indonesian emerging adults over three months (Time 1: N = 512; Time 2: N = 166) using a two-wave cross-lagged panel model (CLPM). Results indicated …

Synthesizing Evidence And Testing The Militant Extremist Mindset Across Scales Version, Haykal Hafizul Arifin, Aly Lamuri, Aryodi Wahyu Kurniawan, Mirra Noor Milla, Ali Mashuri, Bagus Takwin

Psychological Research on Urban Society

Extremist violence continues to pose serious risks in urban areas, yet tools for understanding these radical mindsets on the general population remain underdeveloped. Research on the Militant Extremist Mindset (MEM) is fragmented, with no synthesis of findings, unclear factor structure across shifting subscales, and little evidence from contexts with a documented history of extremist activity like Indonesia. This study addresses these gaps through two studies. First, we conducted a systematic review of empirical studies and a meta-analysis of 11 studies (N total = 5293) to examine the correlates of MEM’s three components - nastiness (endorsement of violence), grudge (hostile outlook), …

The Role Of Music Publishers In Managing Copyright In Musical Works In Indonesia: A Legal Analysis, Diana Silfiani Apr 2026

The Role Of Music Publishers In Managing Copyright In Musical Works In Indonesia: A Legal Analysis, Diana Silfiani

Padjadjaran Jurnal Ilmu Hukum (Journal of Law)

This study aims to examine music publishers as managers of song and music copyrights in Indonesia. Although music publishers are legally recognized as part of the rights holders, in practice they demonstrate distinct and broader characteristics, functions, and roles compared to other rights holders. Due to the absence of clear and comprehensive regulations under Indonesian law, this study compares the legal framework governing music publishers in Indonesia with those in the United States and South Korea to seek comparable regulations. The analysis adopts a qualitative approach, using normative juridical research and a prescriptive typology to propose alternative solutions to the …

Formality Inference Via Llm-Based Lexicographical Analysis Of Recipient Email Addresses, Nicolas Zimmermann, Jonathan Zimmermann Apr 2026

Formality Inference Via Llm-Based Lexicographical Analysis Of Recipient Email Addresses, Nicolas Zimmermann, Jonathan Zimmermann

Defensive Publications Series

Communication assistance tools may have difficulty determining an appropriate formality level for communications with new recipients where prior interaction history is unavailable. A technique is described for inferring formality by applying a large language model (LLM) to perform a lexicographical and semantic analysis of a recipient's email address string. A system can deconstruct the address into its local-part and domain-part, and the LLM can use its pre- trained knowledge to interpret socio, linguistic and organizational cues embedded within these components, such as role, based identifiers (e.g., "president") or specific domains (e.g., ".gov"). A resulting formality inference can be used to …

Dementia Detection In Low-Resource Languages: Evaluating Translation-Assisted Transfer Learning For Multilingual Clinical Assessment, Kylar A. Deloach Apr 2026

Dementia Detection In Low-Resource Languages: Evaluating Translation-Assisted Transfer Learning For Multilingual Clinical Assessment, Kylar A. Deloach

Honors Theses

Alzheimer's disease (AD) is a growing global health concern, with millions of people affected worldwide and cases expected to rise significantly in the coming decades. Early detection is critical for patient treatment and care, and recent advances in natural language processing (NLP) have shown promise in identifying linguistic markers associated with AD. However, most existing work has focused on English, leaving speakers of other languages with limited access to such tools. This study investigates how effective AD detection models trained on English data are at transferring to Greek, a low-resource language with limited dementia-related speech data available. We propose a …

Off The Rails: A Fusion Project Combining Bluegrass And Celtic Fiddle Music, Kate Ward Apr 2026

Off The Rails: A Fusion Project Combining Bluegrass And Celtic Fiddle Music, Kate Ward

Composition/Recording Projects

The American culture of fiddle playing is rooted in fiddle styles from Ireland, Scotland, and England as a result of fiddle tunes being brought to America via immigrants from the British Isles.  Despite many of the fiddling styles prevalent today being rooted in the same traditions, each has unique technical and compositional distinctions.  This paper explores the technical, compositional, and cultural components of bluegrass and Celtic music and how they can be fused together. This project combines elements of both styles in unique ways to create a natural fusion born out of submersion in each genre.

Business Management Review

As digital technologies become increasingly embedded in higher education, promoting environmentally responsible computing practices has become an important sustainability and management concern. This study applies the Norm Activation Model (NAM) to examine green computing behavior among university students in Tanzania. Drawing on responses from 868 students across science, education, and business programs, the study investigates how Awareness of Consequences, Ascription of Responsibility, and Personal Norms influence green computing behaviors. Hierarchical regression analysis was used to assess both the explanatory power of the NAM variables and the selective moderating roles of gender and academic program. Findings reveal that both awareness and …

Hemispheric Processing Of Words And Unfamiliar Symbol Strings, Karoline Curlo Apr 2026

Hemispheric Processing Of Words And Unfamiliar Symbol Strings, Karoline Curlo

Celebrating Scholarship and Creativity Day (2018-)

This study investigates the role of each cerebral hemisphere in processing word forms to better understand how the brain decodes letter strings. Participants completed a same-different judgment task for four-character word and symbol (Orkhon) pairs presented unilaterally. On different trials, a single character was substituted at the first, second, third, or fourth position in the string. Results showed a sameness advantage in the left hemisphere (LH) and a difference advantage in the right hemisphere (RH) - effects only observed with word stimuli. Performance was best when the substituted character occurred at the beginning or end of words and symbols, rather …

Who Leaves Home? Parenting Style And Personality As Predictors Of College Students’ Intent To Study Abroad, Katelyn Sutton Apr 2026

Who Leaves Home? Parenting Style And Personality As Predictors Of College Students’ Intent To Study Abroad, Katelyn Sutton

Celebrating Scholarship and Creativity Day (2018-)

This study examines how parenting styles and personality factors influence college students’ intentions to study abroad. Using the Five-Factor Model and Baumrind’s parenting framework, it explores how authoritative, authoritarian, and permissive parenting relate to personality and students’ likelihood of pursuing international education, addressing a gap in research on early developmental influences. A sample of 156 undergraduate students from the College of Saint Benedict and Saint John’s University completed measures of personality (NEO-FFI), parenting style (Parental Authority Questionnaire), and study-abroad intention. Participants were divided into two groups: those who intend to study abroad and those who do not, allowing for direct …

Colonialism, Conflict, Capital, And Coups: Drivers Of Médecins Sans Frontières Operations In Mali Post-2022, Gina T. Fiorenza

Honors Capstones

Previous research has indicated that an NGO’s funding stream can limit its organizational decision making and inadvertently cause NGOs to place the priorities of donors over that of their beneficiaries. Additionally, Western-international NGOs operating in the Global South have been accused of engaging and perpetuating imbalanced power structures, often facing accusations of racism. To analyze these issues, I conducted a quantitative analysis of financial reports in conjunction with a qualitative analysis of activity reports in Mali in the past 20 years.  My findings indicate that MSF’s past collaboration with the Malian government and decision to reject state funding allows the …

From Memory To Commons; Cultural Commoning And Regional Filmmaking In Indonesia, Jordy Satria Widodo, Shuri M.G. Tambunan

Wacana, Journal of the Humanities of Indonesia

This article examines cultural commoning in Indonesian cinema by analysing how ethnic specificity is mobilized and articulated through storytelling, production, and circulation. Focusing on Ngeri-Ngeri Sedap (2022), the study shows how Bataknese cultural elements in this film are activated not as commodified spectacles or exotic markers, but as lived social resources embedded in the narration and its production process. At the narrative level, it is grounded in the everyday practices of family life and memory. At the level of production, the Bataknese director, art director, and cinematographer draw on shared personal experiences to shape the film’s narrative development and cinematographic …

Human Dignity In The Foundational Political Documents Of The United States, Kalista Roades Apr 2026

Human Dignity In The Foundational Political Documents Of The United States, Kalista Roades

Honors Theses

Human dignity is integral to modern discussions of human rights and liberties, but this connection can be found stretching back through history to the early developments of human rights. This paper begins with modern philosophical definitions of human dignity, especially from Rosen and Kateb. Rosen discusses four “strands” of dignity- Intrinsic Dignity, Status Dignity, Manner Dignity, and Respect Dignity. This paper then uses that framework to find human dignity implicit within the founding documents of the United States including the Declaration of Independence, the Constitution, and the Bill of Rights, as well as “Common Sense” and the Magna Carta to …

Comment Sections As Counterpublics; Negotiating Public Discourse In Indonesia’S Digital Media Sphere, Leon Woltermann Apr 2026

Comment Sections As Counterpublics; Negotiating Public Discourse In Indonesia’S Digital Media Sphere, Leon Woltermann

Wacana, Journal of the Humanities of Indonesia

This article examines the potential of YouTube comment sections as spaces of commoning in Indonesia’s digital media sphere. Drawing on the concept of counterpublics – that is, parallel discursive arenas where marginalized groups circulate counter discourses and voice their interests – it explores how users negotiate access to the digital public sphere and oppose dominant narratives. The article employs a mixed-methods approach, integrating quantitative and qualitative methods into the analysis of the data, to investigate both the structural features (based on comment metadata) and the discursive content of comments. I argue that the comment sections’ dynamic, non-binding structure facilitates open …

Journal of Arts and Social Sciences

This research aims to study the stylistic choice of words and trace their semantic and argumentative movement by shedding light on the precision of the stylistic choice of Quranic words, which carry argumentative potential and persuasive semantic dimensions through their context. The recipient has no choice but to submit and acquiesce. The study examines these words in terms of their lexical and semantic content, not as a departure from the linguistic norm. The study examines examples from the Holy Quran, where the word is evaluative, lively, and charged with semantic dimensions and persuasive argumentative potential. These words compel the recipient …

From Dissent To Terrorism: The Formation Of A Security Grammar In Malaysia, Haezreena Begum Binti Abdul Hamid Dr Apr 2026

From Dissent To Terrorism: The Formation Of A Security Grammar In Malaysia, Haezreena Begum Binti Abdul Hamid Dr

Indonesia Law Review

The absence of a universally accepted definition of terrorism has enabled states to exercise wide discretion in naming, governing, and exceptionalising violence. This article argues that, in Malaysia, “terrorism” did not emerge as a neutral legal category but as the product of a historically evolving security grammar, a patterned way of interpreting ideology, dissent, and conflict through the lens of existential threat. Employing a qualitative doctrinal socio-legal methodology, the study integrates analysis of international and Malaysian legal frameworks with case-based examination of key episodes, including Memali, Al-Arqam, Al-Ma’unah, Lahad Datu, and ISIS-linked incidents. Statutes, judicial decisions, policy materials, and regional …
