Simplified Music Playlist Recommendation Using Sequential-Based Gated Recurrent Unit For Policy And Action Determination, Chanapa Channarong
Chulalongkorn University Theses and Dissertations (Chula ETD)
Recommendation systems are crucial for helping users discover music tailored to their preferences on streaming services. Reinforcement learning is a popular method for music recommendations. However, previous approaches have struggled with overfitting. The agent may become problematic for the new user context if, after a learning phase, it starts to predict actions only based on previous interactions. To overcome this limitation, previous methods require retraining, which require resetting all parameters in the agent. This study introduces the Policy GRU-RL method, which combines sequential-based learning and reinforcement learning to address overfitting without resetting all parameters. It utilizes a recurrent network by …

Solving Cold Start Problems Of Recommender Systems Using Generative Models, Panjawat Rungtranont
Solving Cold Start Problems Of Recommender Systems Using Generative Models, Panjawat Rungtranont
Chulalongkorn University Theses and Dissertations (Chula ETD)
Recommender systems are essential for enhancing user experiences on digital platforms, but they often struggle with suggesting new items lacking interaction data, known as the cold-start item problem. This study introduces "LLM-search," a novel method combining advanced language models (PaLM-2) with data augmentation techniques to address this challenge. LLM-search analyzes users' interactions to identify new items related to their preferences. It then employs a search engine to find cold items based on these preferences, effectively creating synthetic cold items interaction for training the recommender model. An experiment using the 2018 Amazon review dataset across sports & outdoors, groceries, and electronics …

Urban Southeast youth create a type of dessert-centered cultural capital based in their encounters with Asia-centered desserts in trendy urban cafes. They turn these encounters into digital products to share online. This helps them create a refined Asian cosmopolitan identity grounded in localized forms of food culture and history. This identity distinguishes them from earlier generations and situates themselves in a cosmopolitan middle class. The research examines young people’s onsite and online behaviors with four kinds of Asian desserts: Shibuya toast, Kakigori, Bingsu and Bubble tea in cafes and restaurants found in three cities – Singapore, Bangkok, and Kuala Lumpur. …

This research examines how the historical Korean drama "Under the Queen's Umbrella" (2022) portrays modern Korean society. By comparing the societal depictions within the drama with contemporary Korean society, it analyzes the benefits and drawbacks of using historical dramas to represent modern social issues. The researcher primarily uses Stuart Hall's theory of representation as a framework. The study found that the scriptwriter of the drama created a representation of modern Korean phenomena through a cross-temporal representation, highlighting the intense competition within the education system, the dynamics of parental and family institutions, and human rights issues. Moreover, Korean society as depicted …
Time As A “Built-In Headwind”: The Disparate Impact Of Portfolio Cross-Assessment On Black Tyc Students, Annie M. Del Principe
Time As A “Built-In Headwind”: The Disparate Impact Of Portfolio Cross-Assessment On Black Tyc Students, Annie M. Del Principe
Publications and Research
This study of a departmental portfolio cross-assessment practice sheds light on factors that appear to influence assessment outcomes for Black students and helps to tease out some of the reasons why this assessment ecosystem has a disparate impact on these students. The findings, drawn from student outcomes data and student survey data, suggest that it isn’t only, or even primarily, Black students’ linguistic variety that leads to higher failure rates. The writing qualities most commonly flagged on Black students’ failing portfolios are likely related to the very different material conditions in which they write their papers. These conditions challenge the …

La Radical Imperfección Del Mundo: El Crimen Perfecto De Jean Baudrillard Y El Crimen Ferpecto De Alex De La Iglesia, Maria A. Gomez
The Coastal Review
Le parfait crime (1995) by Jean Baudrillard and Crimen ferpecto (2004) by the Basque director Alex de la Iglesia are two works that not only have in common almost identical titles. They both reflect on how in consumer societies, an imperfect real world is substituted for an illusory hyperreality in which the distinction between subject and object has disappeared. While Baudrillard explains how the denial of a transcendent reality in contemporary society is “a perfect crime” that destroys the real, Alex de la Iglesia uses black humor and a mix of genres (mainly grotesque comedy and thriller) to show the …
The Pattern Of The Transformation Of The Religious Life Of The Armenian Diaspora In Ukraine: Conditions, Causes, Consquences, Iryna Haiuk
Occasional Papers on Religion in Eastern Europe

This project aims to address this gap by investigating how hegemonic and counter-hegemonic practices show up in memes on feminism, and how those practices uphold or disrupt dominant narratives. Fifteen memes on feminism are analyzed …

This pilot study examined how PSTs from two Australian universities made connections and/or links (nexus) between their academic knowledge (theory) and professional experience (praxis) for the teaching of …
