The Birth And Growth Of Indo-Anglian Literature And Its Contributions To English Literature, Marie O'Loughlin Jan 1935

The Birth And Growth Of Indo-Anglian Literature And Its Contributions To English Literature, Marie O'Loughlin

University of the Pacific Theses and Dissertations

Western civilization has been influenced by Indian thought in two ways - one through the Greeks, and the other through modern English scholarship. The former has affected us but slightly, being the result of oral interchange, rather than of immediate literary borrowing, - thus passing only indirectly into our system. The latter is reacting upon English literature today in a manner and to an extent which seems not to have been fully realized by either the East or the West.

India still remains the western world something of a mystery, a succession of romantic and gorgeous pictures, or a fantastic …

New Mexican Weaving And The Practical Vegetable Dyes From Spanish Colonial Times, Mela Sedillo Brewster Jan 1935

New Mexican Weaving And The Practical Vegetable Dyes From Spanish Colonial Times, Mela Sedillo Brewster

Spanish and Portuguese ETDs

This study deals with the history of New Mexico as it affects the crafts. It covers the general history and techniques of spinning, loom development and weaving. It considers designs of 17th century Spain and Colonial Mexico and the misinterpretation of designs in New Mexico. It deals primarily with the Spaniards and their descendants who will hereafter be referred to as New Mexicans. Linguistic influences and changes are noted whenever they apply to the crafts. The Indian weaving is discussed only insofar as it helps to understand the New Mexican. Conclusions concerning the craft are drawn both from the study …

Melanchthon And Luther's Translation Of The New Testament, H. O. Keinath

Concordia Theological Monthly

When Philip Schwartzerd changed his German name to Melanchthon, this act might have been considered symbolic of the linguistic interest which was to be dominant throughout his life: Greek. As a student of Greek he proved to be the ready helper who enlisted much technical knowledge of the language in the service of Luther's translation of the New Testament. Melanchthon therefore became one of the great colaborers of …
