Incorporating Culturally Relevant Practices To Improve Self-Efficacy And Engagement For Students With Disability Labels, Jennifer Chestnut Zingaro
Incorporating Culturally Relevant Practices To Improve Self-Efficacy And Engagement For Students With Disability Labels, Jennifer Chestnut Zingaro
Theses and Dissertations
The purpose of this study was to explore the lived experience of middle school students with disability labels in the pull-out resource ELA setting when their teacher included culturally relevant practices. This study utilized qualitative teacher research inquiry methods, and data collection methods included student surveys, teacher journaling of class discussions and observations, and examination of student work samples. This study came about through the lack of culturally relevant pedagogy in the segregated, special education middle school ELA program. Students with disability labels who test below grade level on standardized assessments are placed in a small group, homogeneous classroom with …
Sabbath Keeping As A Virtue For Shalom, Elisabeth R. Kincaid
Sabbath Keeping As A Virtue For Shalom, Elisabeth R. Kincaid
Journal of Religion and Business Ethics
Part of the failure of businesses to advance shalom can be traced to employee exhaustion. In this article, I argue for the retrieval of a broader understanding of Sabbath keeping practices, drawing on the Sabbath theology of Thomas Aquinas. I argue that understanding sabbath keeping as being primarily about the development of virtue rather than simply obedience to law makes Sabbath more attainable and more effective for transformation of workers seeking to advance shalom.

The Temporality Of The Aesthetic Appreciation Of Food And Beverages, Hiroki Fxyma
The Temporality Of The Aesthetic Appreciation Of Food And Beverages, Hiroki Fxyma
Contemporary Aesthetics (Journal Archive)
Taste and smell are gaining status in aesthetics, but theories concerning their basic appreciation are insufficient. This study aims to clarify the temporality of food and beverage appreciation. First, the temporality underlying this appreciation is classified into three categories: the time of the object, the time of the embodied cognition, and the time of the phenomenon. Next, four aspects of the time of the phenomenon are proposed: non-temporal, linear temporality, circular temporality, and point temporality. These four temporalities are not determined a priori but generated by the eater’s attention. This study provides a basis for discussing food and drink as …

Multi Attribute Neutrosophic Optimization Technique Foroptimal Crop Selection In Ariyalur District, Angammal S, Hannah Grace G, Nivetha Martin, Florentin Smarandache
Neutrosophic Sets and Systems
Ranking crops is a vital part of sustainable farming practices. A deliberate strategy that incorporates multi-criteria decision-making is essential for achieving sustainability in agriculture. The process of choosing crops involves a lot of unknowns and unpredictable elements. The neutrosophic set, characterized by the three independent degrees of truth (T), falsity (F), and indeterminacy (I), is more adept at handling incomplete data. The current study combines single-valued multi-criteria neutrosophic programming with the TOPSIS approach to examine the crop selection process in the Ariyalur district. This study incorporated expert advice and a thorough literature analysis to identify the fundamental criteria for developing …

A Comparison Of Reading Strategies Among Spanish Speaking University Students In Different Programs Of English For Specific Purposes Based On An Indeterminate Likert Scale, Andrea Sofía Ribadeneira Vacacela
Neutrosophic Sets and Systems
This study examines the relationships of reading strategies among different English for Specific Purposes (ESP) programs. Ninety-seven students in four ESP programs in Ecuador were surveyed regarding their reading strategies. The results found that there were not significant differences among the four strategies. These findings were dis-cussed regarding whether differences in reading strategies could potentially influence teaching effectiveness, learning outcomes, and English language applications. The survey was administered to a random sample ob-tained from four Ecuadorian universities for 97 ESP students. For the survey, we applied an Indeterminate Likert Scale. Unlike the classic Likert Scale, the indeterminate variant asks the …

New Multi‑Criteria Decision Making Technique Based On Neutrosophic Qualiflex Method, Antonios Paraskevas, Michael Madas
Neutrosophic Sets and Systems
The field of Multicriteria Decision Making (MCDM) has advanced significantly, with methods like QUALIFLEX playing a key role by integrating concordance and discordance measures for robust decision outcomes. This paper introduces an innovative extension, neutrosophic QUALIFLEX, which incorporates neutrosophic sets to better handle uncertainty and indeterminacy. Neutrosophic logic manages truth, indeterminacy, and falsity simultaneously, offering a nuanced approach compared to traditional models. The scope of this article is the application of neutrosophic QUALIFLEX to staff selection in business, a scenario often plagued by high uncertainty. Preliminary results show that neutrosophic QUALIFLEX provides superior performance, delivering more accurate and reliable rankings …

Cubic Spherical Neutrosophic Sets For Advanced Decision-Making, S Gomathi, M. Karpagadevi, S. Krishnaprakash, A. Revathy, Said Broumi
Neutrosophic Sets and Systems
In the context of aggregation operators and multiple criteria decision-making, this article presents the idea of cubic spherical neutrosophic sets. The notion of neutrosophic informations are transform into a geometric sphere by determining its center and radius. This advanced geometrical representation extends traditional neutrosophic informations. This study defines and discusses weighted additive and weighted geometric aggregation operators tailored to cubic spherical neutrosophic sets that are vital for handling complex and uncertain information. Practical example, such as evaluating fertilizer brands for coconut farming, illustrate their application in decision-making contexts. By integrating cubic spherical neutrosophic sets into multiple criteria decision-making frameworks, decision …

Schweizer-Sklar Power Aggregation Operators Based On Complexsingle-Valued Neutrosophic Information Using Smart And Their Application In Green Supply Chain Management, Priyadharshini S, Mohanaselvi S
Neutrosophic Sets and Systems
A complex single-valued neutrosophic (CSVN) set is a very useful tool to handle the uncertainty, inconsistency, and ambiguity of knowledge in a periodic framework. The Schweizer-Sklar (SS) t-norm (TN) and t-conorm (TCN) enhance the flexibility of a procedure for aggregation depending on its parameters, whereas the power aggregation(PA) operator prevents insufficient impact of excessively high or low arguments on the results. Based on the idea of Schweizer-Sklar power aggregation operators, this paper aims to propose a number of aggregation operators such as complex single-valued neutrosophic Schweizer-Sklar power weighted averaging (CSVNSSPWA), complex single-valued neutrosophic Schweizer-Sklar power ordered weighted averaging (CSVNSSPOWA). Weights …

On Diminishing Fuzzy Neutrosophic Topological Spaces Over Nano Topology, Jansirani N, Vasugi T, Kamal Nasir V
Neutrosophic Sets and Systems
As an extension and also, a necessity to compute the indeterminacy, the concept of diminishing fuzzy sets is protracted to introduce the conception of diminishing fuzzy (single-valued) neutrosophic sets in the standard unit interval. In addition, the axioms of neutrosophic topological spaces are extended to config- ure the collection, diminishing fuzzy neutrosophic topology, and also, the basic theorems of nano topology is incorporated to the case of diminishing fuzzy neutrosophic set in terms of the approximation space and the boundary region by acquiring the same operators for the quantities, non-membership and indeterminacy are also discussed. Moreover, a nano continuous function …

Integrated Merec-Cocoso Approach Using Score Function Ofneutrosophic For Location Selection Of Special Economic Zone, Debashis Ghosh, Bahnishikha Roy Muhuri, G. S. Mahapatra, B. S. Mahapatra
Neutrosophic Sets and Systems
Special economic zones (SEZs) are essential if a developing country is to boost economic growth. The selection of an SEZ site might be viewed as a multi-criteria decision-making (MCDM) difficulty because of the many conflicting aspects connected to different locations. This work presents a flexible neutrosophic MCDM approach for optimal SEZ site search. The single-valued neutrosophic sets transform the qualitative evaluation of the criteria for SEZ alternatives into a quantitative evaluation. The method based on removal effect on criteria (MEREC) approach is improved in a neutrosophic environment to ascertain the relevance of every characteristic of SEZ alternatives. We suggested a …

Neutrosophic Sets and Systems
Conservation of natural resources like water, soil, and biodiversity is necessary for ecological balance and human survival. This article aims to identify potential ways to conserve natural resources while maintaining a balance between ecology and human survival. An integrated neutrosophic CRiteria Importance Through Intercriteria (CRITIC)-Multi-Atributive Ideal-Real Comparative Analysis (MAIRCA) approach is developed to handle uncertain and inconsistent information. The linguistic assessments of the criteria are quantified through single-valued neutrosophic sets (SVNSs). The CRITIC method evaluates the criteria weights to avoid subjective and biased assessments. The MAIRCA approach is improved in a neutrosophic context to identify the ranking of the alternatives. …

Measuring Resilience In Black Families, Destiny Shanell Kelly
Measuring Resilience In Black Families, Destiny Shanell Kelly
All ETDs from UAB
Black families play a unique role in navigating risk and adversity, operating as a source of various protective factors to combat challenges faced. Given the historical and current role that racism plays in the everyday lives of Black individuals, culturally specific protective mechanisms have manifested as a defense for these encounters. Many of these protective factors are instilled at the family level, helping all family members maintain healthy functioning or be resilient, such as social support, ethnic-racial socialization, and racial identity. However, current measures of family resilience do not incorporate these culturally relevant protective mechanisms into the measures, preventing Black …
The Rise And Fall Of Internal Colonialism As A Theory Of Race In Black Political Movements And Academia, Eric Davis
The Rise And Fall Of Internal Colonialism As A Theory Of Race In Black Political Movements And Academia, Eric Davis
All ETDs from UAB
Throughout black/African history in the United States, various competitive ideas have emerged over time to take on the arduous task of theorizing race. From W.E.B. Du Bois’s famed assertion of the issue of race being one of racial discrimination--- summed up aptly as the“color line”--- to Malcolm X’s gradual recognition of the problem as one of Euro-American imperialism, to others, there has been no shortage of race theories. However, the ascension of contemporary theories of race has belied this diversity, obscuring the roles of other paradigms in shaping a mass consciousness of race, such as internal colonialism. This thesis applies …

BACKGROUND: A wealth of clinically relevant information is only obtainable within unstructured clinical narratives, leading to great interest in clinical natural language processing (NLP). While a multitude of approaches to NLP exist, current algorithm development approaches have limitations that can slow the development process. These limitations are exacerbated when the task is emergent, as is the case currently for NLP extraction of signs and symptoms of COVID-19 and postacute sequelae of SARS-CoV-2 infection (PASC).
OBJECTIVE: This study aims to highlight the current limitations of existing NLP algorithm development approaches that are exacerbated by NLP tasks surrounding emergent clinical concepts and …
