Mm‑Forecast: A Multimodal Approach To Temporal Event Forecasting With Large Language Models, Haoxuan Li, Zhengmao Yang, Yunshan Ma, Yi Bin, Yang Yang, Tat-Seng Chua
Research Collection School Of Computing and Information Systems
We study an emerging and intriguing problem of multimodal temporal event forecasting with large language models. Compared to using text or graph modalities, the investigation of utilizing images for temporal event forecasting has not been fully explored, especially in the era of large language models (LLMs). To bridge this gap, we are particularly interested in two key questions of: 1) why images will help in temporal event forecasting, and 2) how to integrate images into the LLM-based forecasting framework. To answer these research questions, we propose to identify two essential functions that images play in the scenario of temporal event …

Balancing Visual Context Understanding In Dialogue For Image Retrieval, Zhaohui Wei, Lizi Liao, Xiaoyu Du, Xinguang Xiang
Research Collection School Of Computing and Information Systems
In the realm of dialogue-to-image retrieval, the primary challenge is to fetch images from a pre-compiled database that accurately reflect the intent embedded within the dialogue history. Existing methods often overemphasize inter-modal alignment, neglecting the nuanced nature of conversational context. Dialogue histories are frequently cluttered with redundant information and often lack direct image descriptions, leading to a substantial disconnect between conversational content and visual representation. This study introduces VCU, a novel framework designed to enhance the comprehension of dialogue history and improve cross-modal matching for image retrieval. VCU leverages large language models (LLMs) to perform a two-step extraction process. It …

The ability to answer causal questions is important for any system that requires robust scene under- standing. In this demonstration, we develop a prototype system that leverages our causal link prediction framework, CausalLP. CausalLP framework uses a visual causal knowledge graph and associated knowledge graph embedding for two visual causal question and answering tasks- (i) causal explanation and (ii) causal prediction. In the live demonstration sessions, the participants will be invited to test the efficiency and effectiveness of the system for visual causal question and answering.

Theology Undergraduate Work
This paper attempts to determine whether David or his editor in 1 Sam 24:11b–12a is alluding to the judge Jephtha in Judg 11:27, and if so, what implications this intertextual allusion would have on both diachronic and synchronic studies. To accomplish this goal, the author utilizes four of the criteria proposed by Richard B. Hays in Echoes of Scripture in the Letters of Paul—namely, the criteria of verbal parallel, availability of source to the author (date), theme, and recurrence of author to the same section. The author examines the degree of verbal parallel in light of the hermeneutical structuring principle …

The Critically Endangered white-bellied heron Ardea insignis is a large-bodied, range-restricted, piscivorous bird of the Himalayan mountains. With fewer than 60 individuals remaining globally, regular monitoring is required for this rare species. We present the results of surveys during 2017 and 2023-2024 in Namdapha Tiger Reserve, Arunachal Pradesh, India. The encounter rate of white-bellied herons in 2017 was 0.55 individuals per km of river, but we did not detect the bird during intensive surveys in the same location during 2023-2024. The surveyed area within the Reserve was once a stronghold for the species, but its population appears to be declining. …
