Prevalent Themes Of Messages Related To Sexual Risk Behaviors Targeting Young Black Women In Social Media, Dominique Lache' Gadson Jan 2025

Prevalent Themes Of Messages Related To Sexual Risk Behaviors Targeting Young Black Women In Social Media, Dominique Lache' Gadson

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

Black women have been shown in mainstream media and social media in ways that reinforce negative stereotypes and reduce them to objects, which leads to the sexualization and stigmatization of their bodies and sexuality. There was a gap in understanding how exposure to social media content may influence sexual behavior and identity among young Black women, and how hypersexualized narratives sparked by stories in social media reflect sexual risk-taking. The purpose of this qualitative study was to explore and track popular social media sites to determine the themes of the messages most frequently viewed targeting Black women. The research question …

Factors That Overcome Barriers For African American Educators In Educational Leadership, Joshua Allen Williams Jan 2025

Factors That Overcome Barriers For African American Educators In Educational Leadership, Joshua Allen Williams

Online Theses and Dissertations

The demographic landscape of the United States has indeed been undergoing significant changes over the past few decades, marked by a growing diversity in its population. This shift is primarily driven by factors such as immigration, higher birth rates among certain ethnic and racial groups, and the aging of the white population. According to a report published by the Census Bureau the United States is projected to be a majority minority country by 2044. The term "majority-minority" refers to a situation where no single racial or ethnic group constitutes a majority of the population. As a result of this shift, …

How The Singular Connects To Ethics: Deep Deduction Of Samuel Weber's Poetics Of Iterability, Liu Yang Jan 2025

How The Singular Connects To Ethics: Deep Deduction Of Samuel Weber's Poetics Of Iterability, Liu Yang

Theoretical Studies in Literature and Art

Literature is both singular and ethical, two characteristics that are found to be contradictory. Through a dialogue with Samuel Weber's recent research, we may find a better way to understand this poetic problem. The key to understanding the singular is to understand iterability. Weber distinguishes the potential and impossible iterability from the realistic and possible repetition, revealing that iterability, a spectral after-effect of the repetition, is not “repetition” but “latent repetition.” Thus, the difference of the singular as a movement of potential does not equate to the individual, although it is often equated with the individual under the mono-theological identity …

Rediscovering The Roots Of Moroccan Geography In An Era Of Interdependence, Donald J. Zeigler, Driss Fassi Jan 2025

Rediscovering The Roots Of Moroccan Geography In An Era Of Interdependence, Donald J. Zeigler, Driss Fassi

The Geographical Bulletin

The indigenous traditions of Moroccan geography, pioneered by such figures as AI Idrisi and Ibn Khaldun during the classical period of Arab intellectual history (1000-1400), came to be ignored and then replaced with the establishment of a French protectorate in 1912. The era of independence in Moroccan geography was supplanted by an era of dependence on European scholarship, which emphasized resource exploitation and which was to last until political independence in 1956. Following that watershed year, intellectual inquiry became more independent and focused on the development needs of the nation. Following a period of Moroccanization in the 1970s, which included …

Student Theses and Dissertations

The academic underperformance of English Language Learners (ELL) in middle schools remains a critical issue within the U.S. educational system. ELL students face a variety of obstacles that impact their academic achievement, such as language barriers and a lack of adequate support. This qualitative phenomenological study aimed to explore the barriers contributing to the academic struggles of ELL students in grades 6-8 in central Mississippi, focusing on the lived experiences of core subject teachers. The study sought to understand how these barriers affect instructional practices and student outcomes, particularly within the context of middle school education. The research was guided …

The purpose of this qualitative phenomenological study was to examine …

How The Flock Falters: An Analysis Of Apostasy In The Shepherd Of Hermas, Justin R. Bamba Jan 2025

How The Flock Falters: An Analysis Of Apostasy In The Shepherd Of Hermas, Justin R. Bamba

Masters Theses

This study provides a detailed analysis of apostasy as it is expressed in the Shepherd of Hermas. Drawing from the work of B.J. Oropeza, the study offers a threefold analysis that identifies the Christian community in danger, the nature of apostasy as it pertains to this community, and the consequences of such apostasy. Special attention is devoted to Vision 3 and Similitudes 8-9 for their vivid Tower motif, a unique literary device by which the author expresses the hope and limitations of repentance, community identity, and the causes and consequences for separation from this community—all of which contribute to a …

Caring For Ukrainian Healthcare Professionals In Wartime: Moral Injury And Psycho-Spiritual Intervention, Rodger L. Stenger

Doctoral Dissertations and Projects

This mixed-methods study examined the prevalence of Moral Injury (MI) among Ukrainian healthcare professionals (UHCPs) and their willingness to engage in evidence-based, psycho-spiritual interventions targeting MI that has resulted from the Russian invasion and the COVID-19 pandemic. MI is a psychological construct resulting from actions that violate an individual’s moral code and can overlap with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) symptoms. While MI has been extensively researched in the military, it has gained attention in healthcare settings. Utilizing the Moral Injury Symptom Scale-Healthcare Professional (MISS-HP), this study quantitatively identified a moderate prevalence of MI among doctors and nurses in Ukraine. …

Arguments For The Sovereignty Of God In The Book Of Job, Elizabeth J. Welch Jan 2025

Arguments For The Sovereignty Of God In The Book Of Job, Elizabeth J. Welch

Doctoral Dissertations and Projects

The book of Job is a complex piece of wisdom literature studied for centuries using various methodologies to elucidate theological doctrines, biblical themes, and literary motifs. This dissertation aims to demonstrate that a midrashic form of exposition significantly expands the understanding of the Joban arguments for and against the sovereignty of God within the context of the ancient views of divine retribution and human suffering. Encapsulated in the legal motif, the disclosure and discussion of these views with associated themes, such as theocracy, theodicy, justice, and theophany, identified God’s sovereignty as the most prevalent doctrine in the book. The three …

Was Spinoza A Deleuzian? Rethinking The Politics Of Emotions And Affects, Ahmet Aktas Jan 2025

Was Spinoza A Deleuzian? Rethinking The Politics Of Emotions And Affects, Ahmet Aktas

Department of Philosophy Student Publications

A salient tradition in contemporary affect theory heavily relies on distinguishing between emotions and affects. The former refers to structured categories of socially coded affective states, while the latter denotes the pre-social libidinal flow underlying emotions. This distinction is commonly attributed to Spinoza and is thought to have been further developed by Deleuze. In this article, I argue that this overall historical picture is misleading and inaccurate. Deleuze radically transforms Spinoza’s theory of affect for the ends of his own ethical-political philosophy. Moreover, I argue that Deleuzian and similar conceptualizations of affect fail to fulfill their political and ethical promises …

Theological Themes And Musical Influences Of Worship In Indonesian Immigrant Churches In The United States, Agnes Keren Bale Jan 2025

Theological Themes And Musical Influences Of Worship In Indonesian Immigrant Churches In The United States, Agnes Keren Bale

Masters Theses

Beyond evoking emotional experience, theologically sound songs are crucial for evangelizing, edifying the church, and congregational spiritual growth. This study examines worship in Indonesian immigrant churches in the United States, analyzing recurring theological themes in the most regularly featured songs in the worship repertoire. Additionally, it explores the influence of Western worship music which shapes the blended identity of these churches. Via the data gathered through worship service observations from a few churches and a survey for platform ministers, twenty-two congregational songs were coded and analyzed for their theological themes. Findings included the omnipotence and sovereignty of God, victory/battle, faith, …

The Pragmatic Effect Of Φιλέω And Αγαπάω In John 21:15-17, Steven J. P'Pool Jan 2025

The Pragmatic Effect Of Φιλέω And Αγαπάω In John 21:15-17, Steven J. P'Pool

Masters Theses

The final chapter of John’s gospel is central to the New Testament in that it depicts the risen Jesus appearing to His disciples and sharing a meal with them, restoring Peter to his place as a leader among his brothers, and records John’s eyewitness testimony to the events reported. It is in verses fifteen through seventeen of chapter twenty-one that attention turns to Peter and John, with the latter eaves dropping on the conversation. John records the conversation in these three verses in which Jesus restores Peter from his trio of denials prior to Jesus’ crucifixion with three opportunities for …

The purpose of this hermeneutical phenomenological study is to explore the essential data and digital literacies for instructors in community colleges, trade schools, and vocational training programs located in the South to work with artificial intelligence (AI) effectively. The theory guiding this study is based on Max van Manen's framework on lived experiences and Paul Ricoeur's narrative theory, which is designed to enhance understanding of the perception and implementation of these literacies within an AI-augmented educational domain. As society's reliance on data continues to grow, it becomes essential to equip all citizens with the skills required for data literacy (Wolff …

A Philosophical, Theological, And Biblical Defense Of The Hebrew Concept Of Resurrection, Daniel M. Danciu Jan 2025

A Philosophical, Theological, And Biblical Defense Of The Hebrew Concept Of Resurrection, Daniel M. Danciu

Doctoral Dissertations and Projects

This project challenges the consensus view on the origins, hermeneutics, and validity of resurrection hope in Hebrew thought. It provides a scientific, philosophical, theological, and historical defense against minimalist and moderate perspectives. The case against the minimalists offers empirical evidence for an afterlife. It demonstrates that the Hebrew Bible discloses the afterlife and that early passages express the Hebrew concept of resurrection. New scientific data for near-death experiences, as well as the existence of the soul, which contradict specific neuroscience perspectives, support this argument. The practices such as necromancy and the resurrection of Jesus provide additional evidence for an afterlife, …

The Masculine Perspective Of The Stigmatization Of Childlessness In Marriage In YorùBáLand: An Ile-Ife Phenomenological Study, Godwin Segun-George Olugbami Jan 2025

The Masculine Perspective Of The Stigmatization Of Childlessness In Marriage In YorùBáLand: An Ile-Ife Phenomenological Study, Godwin Segun-George Olugbami

Doctoral Dissertations and Projects

The purpose of this phenomenological study was to describe men's experiences with the stigmatization of childlessness in the context of marriage in Ile-Ife, Nigeria. The experience of childlessness as a universal phenomenon has been predominantly studied from the female perspective, and men are primarily neglected. The heteronormative ideal of women as 'mother/nurturer' is supported by only collecting women's fertility data in contrast to relatively suboptimal statistics in men's studies. This dissertation explores the view of ten African men set in the Yorùbá culture suffering from childlessness and its attendant stigmatization, mainly as a result of infertility. It provides in-depth interviews …

Professional Behaviors As Forced Assimilation: A Critical Reflection On The U.S. History Of Education And Beyond, Quinn P. Tyminski, Karla Reese, Linn Wakeford

The Open Journal of Occupational Therapy

Historically, education has been used as a mechanism of assimilation for marginalized identities in the United States, demanding conformity to the dominant culture and society. The occupational therapy (OT) profession is not immune and must examine and understand how our educational systems have erected and maintained barriers designed to exclude people from historically minoritized communities through the lens of professional behaviors. Professionalism and professional behaviors are not well-defined constructs in OT, and there is significant variability among educational institutions in how professional behavior standards are written, communicated, and applied. There is significant inconsistency across OT educational programs in the US …
