Partial Central Diabetes Insipidus Following Endonasal Infrasellar Clival Chordoma Resection In Pediatric Patients: A Case Report And Review, Melody Nazarbegian, Talia Subar, Jordin Frasch, Bahareh Schweiger
Journal of Child Science
Background: A 14-year-old male with recurrent clival chordoma, an infrasellar mass, underwent a repeat endonasal resection that was complicated by a CSF leak secondary to puncture of the dura and arachnoid near the posteroinferior pituitary gland, and postoperative DI that was initially thought to be transient however, recurred 7 days after cessation of DDAVP therapy. Our objective is to highlight a case of endonasal resection of clival chordoma which resulted in permanent, but partial, central DI in the pediatric setting. Clinical Presentation: In this patient, his CDI initially responded to desmopressin in the inpatient setting, which contributed to the premature …

Assessment Of Qtc Interval In Children With Nephrotic Syndrome, Fatemeh Shahrahmani, Nastaran Motabar, Mahmood Reza Khazaei, Anoush Azarfar, Yalda Ravanshad
Journal of Child Science
Background: Nephrotic syndrome, characterized by glomerular damage, primarily affects children. While renal symptoms have been extensively studied, there is growing concern about cardiac complications, particularly the prolongation of the QTc interval, which can increase the risk of ventricular arrhythmias and sudden cardiac death. This study aimed to assess the QTc interval in children diagnosed with nephrotic syndrome and explore the factors affecting QTc prolongation. Methods: A descriptive cross-sectional study was conducted on 42 children aged 2-10 years diagnosed with nephrotic syndrome in Mashhad from 2019 to 2020. Data on age, gender, and blood samples to measure the levels of albumin, …

Purpose: To describe how rehabilitation care is organized for young patients (4-25 years) with acquired brain injury (ABI) in Dutch outpatient rehabilitation centers (RCs). Due to differences between RCs in terms of history/culture, team composition/expertise, and collaborative networks, variations in de provision and content of care between RCs are expected. Methods: In this cross-sectional-survey-study, professionals from RCs were invited to complete a 21-item-questionnaire (12 yes/no-& 9 corresponding open-ended-questions) on the organization of rehabilitation care for young patients with ABI. Three topics were: admission/discharge criteria (n=2&2), rehabilitation treatment (n=7&5), and aftercare (n=3&2). Answers to yes/no-questions were descriptively analyzed, and open-ended-questions were …

Gastrointestinal Mucormycosis In An Adolescent Presenting As Acute Gastric Perforation, Swathy Subhash, Thomas Oliver, David A. Enoch, Stephen Farrell, Catherine O’Sullivan, David Inwald
Journal of Child Science
There is a rise in invasive fungal infections (IFI) in neonates and children. Mucormycosis is the third most common cause of IFI following Candida and Aspergillus, with a notable increase in incidence in recent years. We present the case of a 15 year old immunocompetent boy who presented with acute gastric fundus perforation, requiring emergency surgical intervention. Histopathological examination and culture of the resected specimen showed evidence of Mucormycosis. Despite appropriate antifungal therapy and surgical interventions, his condition progressed and ultimately proved fatal. The recognition of Mucormycosis can be challenging and requires a high level of suspicion. The infection can …

Wake Up: How Application Of Garcetti To Public Educator Speech Harms Educators And Students Through The Lens Of Florida's Individual Freedom Act, Lindsay Mccarthy
St. John's Law Review
(Excerpt)
Nearly twenty of the nation’s states have enacted some kind of law that limits the teaching of controversial topics like race, gender, and politics. Within the last three years, these laws have become more commonplace as social movements like Black Lives Matter and #MeToo have brought topics like systemic racism and gender inequality to the nation’s attention. As the country becomes more polarized, state legislatures—typically conservative ones—have resorted to these censorship laws to fight back against the perceived indoctrination of children. The state that has gained the most notoriety for such laws is Florida. In 2022, Florida passed a …

Maritime (Im)Mobility And Heterotopia: Jeju Island In South Korea, Taehee Kim
Kritika Kultura
Jeju Island, located on the remote periphery of the Korean peninsula and historically a site of exile, has become a popular destination for domestic migration over the past decade. Drawing on Michel Foucault’s notion of heterotopia as a methodological framework and taking Jeju Island as an example to reveal “islandness,” this paper discusses how the island is imagined and represented in Korean society. From this perspective, Jeju Island is regarded exteriorly as a place outside the ordinary and internally as a heterogeneous place. Further, in the heterotopia of “illusion” and “compensation,” a sojourn on Jeju Island is expected and experienced …

When clarifying Spinoza’s concept of affect, Deleuze declares, “Hope as such or love as such represents nothing, strictly nothing.” In this paper, I approach the question of love by taking a detour of nonhuman affinity. First, I present this paper as an experimental becoming that weaves through heterogeneous lines of thinking and creating. Second, explicating the Deleuzian-Guattarian notion of “abstract machine” alongside Isabelle Stengers’s figure of “inappropriable unknown,” I argue for viewing the cosmos and art as interconnected abstract machines that foster novel realities and communities. Third, I weave planetary thinking with an interdisciplinary approach to propose a “planetary art …

Literary Study In The Era Of Artificial Intelligence In China, Fen Gao, Pengfei Zhang
Kritika Kultura
In view of the salient characteristics of technological innovation and human-machine symbiosis in the era of artificial intelligence, Chinese literary circles have purveyed a productive exploration of “literary study in the era of artificial intelligence.” Chinese scholars’ innovation of literary theory consists of three characteristics. First, they have established the original theory of “brain text,” systematically analyzed the definition, formation mechanism, and relationship between “brain text” and literature, language, text, and cognition, and applied this theory to literary criticism. Second, on the basis of sorting out and summarizing the core viewpoints of Western digital humanities theory, Chinese scholars have carried …

The Right To Obtain Electronic Evidence In An “Illegal” Or “Disloyal” Manner Versus The Right To Privacy, Mohamad Fayez Alesber
BAU Journal - Journal of Legal Studies - مجلة الدراسات القانونية
This study addresses the problem of reconciling the right to obtain electronic evidence, even through "illegal" or " disloyal " means, with the right to privacy in this digital age. To this end, the study first highlights the most prominent definitions given to electronic evidence in jurisprudence and legislation, most of which appear to liken it to "data," a reductive analogy that can be analyzed. Subsequently, the study sheds light on the position of European and French jurisprudence on the issue of producing electronic evidence through "illegal" or " disloyal ". Apparently, there is a shift in jurisprudence toward accepting …
