Architectural Engineering
The impact of classroom interior design on students’ perceived well- being, encompassing cognitive, physical, and social aspects, is substantial. While there is increasing evidence supporting the importance of individual interior elements such as lighting, colour, and furniture, most research examines these factors separately, neglecting their combined effects. This research seeks to examine how an integrated approach to interactive classroom interior design through flexible seating areas, ergonomic furniture, natural lighting, colours psychology, acoustics, and thermal comfort influences student well- being (physical, social, and cognitive). The research explores the most effective combinations of design components in fostering a positive and supportive learning …

Cardiac allograft vasculopathy remains a major cause of late morbidity following heart transplantation. While accumulating evidence implicates innate macrophages in the inflammatory progression of CAV, the underlying mechanisms remain incompletely understood. In murine models of CAV, we identified proteolytic cleavage of MERTK, a key anti-inflammatory receptor on macrophages, as a contributing factor to CAV progression. In a model of CAV, MERTK deficiency accelerated allograft rejection and increased intimal leukocyte infiltration. In contrast, mice expressing a genetically cleavage-resistant form of MERTK (MertkCR/CR) exhibited prolonged graft survival, reduced intimal thickening, diminished immune cell infiltration, and decreased circulating effector T cells. …

Zero-involvement authentication (ZIA) offers a promising solution for autoprovisioning large IoT device networks by enabling devices to extract identical authentication keys from ambient environmental signals without user intervention.
However, we demonstrate that existing ZIA systems leak critical information during key negotiation when they exchange synchronization messages over public wireless channels.
Our novel passive attack, SyncBleed, exploits these leaked messages to reconstruct ZIA-generated keys, successfully cracking approximately 50% of keys in under one second in our testbed experiments.
To address this vulnerability, we introduce TREVOR (Time shift REsistant VEctor ExtractOR), which generates nearly identical bit sequences from environmental signals without exchanging …

Cloud‐to‐ground (CG) lightning is a major source of summer wildfire ignition in the western United States (WUS). However, future projections of lightning are uncertain since lightning is not directly simulated by most global climate models. To address this issue, we use convolutional neural network (CNN)‐based parameterizations of daily June‐September CG lightning. CNN parameterizations of daily CG lightning occurrence at each grid cell use fields of three thermodynamic variables—ratio of surface Moist Static Energy (MSE) to 500 hPa saturation MSE, 700–500 hPa lapse rate, and 500 hPa relative humidity. Applying these parameterizations to the Community Earth System Model version 2 Large …

Purpose: The conventional assumption that P values ≤ 0.05 imply reproducible effects has come under recent criticism. This concern is particularly relevant in oncology, as phase III oncology trials, which directly inform practice, are usually not repeated. Using advanced modeling techniques, we investigated the relationship between P values and reproducibility in oncology.
Methods: We obtained the signal-to-noise ratio distribution in phase III oncology using outcomes from 632 two-arm superiority trials enrolling 496,219 patients. With this distribution, we estimated successful replication probability as the probability that a replicate trial, having the same design, effect size, and standard error, would have a …

Despite the global burden of helminth infections, no human vaccines have yet been licensed against these parasites. This study explored the development and evaluation of mRNA vaccine candidates targeting Schistosoma mansoni tetraspanin-2 (Sm-TSP-2), an antigen currently under evaluation as a protein vaccine. We designed constructs encoding either full-length Sm-TSP-2, or its large extracellular loop (EC2) domain in secretory, membrane-anchored, or cytosolic forms. In a murine challenge model, the secreted and membrane-anchored versions of Sm-TSP-2-EC2 induced the highest of antigen-specific antibody titers. These two construct designs, along with full-length Sm-TSP-2 mRNA, also significantly reduced adult worm …

Imaginings: creative practice and inquiry
The methodologies used in the creation of artistic work and, in the academic setting, the explanation of the processes of artistic inquiry and their findings is necessarily non-prescriptive and potentially requires artists to innovate on methodology, combining existing methods and creating new ones on a case-by-case basis. Creative Practice Research addresses these issues by offering a methodologically diverse range of principles that artists can use to articulate their subjective creative practices in an academic setting, challenging traditional research methods while also legitimising creative work within academia. The following paper provides a brief application of this methodology in the context of …

Orchestrating Brilliance In The Recording Studio: Mixing Music To Record Music, Adrian Carroll
Imaginings: creative practice and inquiry
This paper is a report on a heuristic inquiry into music recording practice and workflow to arrive at the essence of experience. Through professional reflection on a music recording, we investigated the recording process and student experience; this was used to identify, explore and expose tacit professional practice. The central theme that unfolded revealed benefits in mixing music during a recording session. Other themes of workflow efficiency, and emotional expression, also emerged from the data collection. The research culminated in a creative synthesis in the form of a research question: Can live studio recordings be a viable option for artists, …

Considerations When Exploring One’S Arts-Based Practice As Research, David L. Page
Imaginings: creative practice and inquiry
This article shares insight into some of the knowledge gained on a higher degree research (HDR) study journey, which I wish I had access to prior to my commencement of that journey. I presented this on 8 July 2025 at the SAE University College Week 7 Forum, and trust this insight may be of interest to those SAE faculty who are new to higher education (HE) research, who have an interest in exploring one’s own arts-based practice as part of the Scholarship and Research activities now being encouraged at SAE University College.
The Methodological Approach Of My Emergent Auto-Ethnographical Journey In Arts-Based Practice As Research (Abr): Music & Sound-Making, Meaning-Making, Self-Making, David L. Page
Imaginings: creative practice and inquiry
This article discusses the methodological approach of my professional Doctor of Creative Industries (DCI) Research Project 1 study. The aim of higher degree research (HDR) Project 1 was to investigate my DIY music & sound-making practice and self as a practitioner, in the process of creating and producing a DIY music artefact. Specifically: to investigate why I as the practitioner felt an authentic connection with one form of music & sound-making (acoustic instrument-based), and not a connection with another form of music & sound-making (digital virtual-based).

Imaginings: creative practice and inquiry
"In Tensile // In Between" operates as both artistic artefact and theoretical critique, demonstrating how creative practice can embody and extend academic discourse. This creative-critical work examines shifting perceptions of course delivery within creative tertiary education, arguing that project-based learning enables the seamless embedding of socio-cultural discourse and theories within practical making processes.
The poem interrogates how educational environments can cultivate critical thinking through what I term "tensile pedagogy"—an approach that maintains productive charge between opposing forces rather than seeking synthesis or resolution. This concept builds upon King's (2017) work on pedagogy as tension, which argues that "tension and incompleteness …

Combining Organizational Assessment And Evidence-Based Strategies To Address Incivility In Nursing, Guillaume Ngonmeudje
Creating Healthy Work Environments (CHWE)
The workplace environment in healthcare is complex and negatively influenced by an increasing pattern of incivility. Recent reports of the increasing prevalence of incivility and related disruptive behaviors within nursing academic and clinical settings are alarming. Incivility threatens the sense of belonging needed to support and nurture the development of nursing students in the profession, and significantly impacts the work performance of front-line healthcare workers, contributing to medical errors and poor patient outcomes (Patel et al., 2022). Nurses and nursing students must be well equipped to effectively address incivility in the workplace and promote the collaboration necessary to optimize patient …

Use Of Structured Mentoring With Nurse Residents To Improve Staff Retention And Professional Growth, Gail Cudia, Stephen Boyce
Creating Healthy Work Environments (CHWE)
Background
Nurses in residency programs participate in orientations that pair them with preceptors. The preceptors are experienced peers based on the units for which the residents are hired. Those encouraging and supportive relationships serve to onboard the nurse residents clinically, operationally, and socially. However, what do we provide for these nurses to encourage and support them professionally beyond the orientation? The term “mentor” was used loosely at our facility for several years. A structured program did not exist; no intentional pairing of mentor/mentee, no official documenting, nor mentor training.
Purpose
The purpose of the mentoring program is to provide extended …

According to the American Association of Colleges of Nursing (AACN) (2022), nurse faculty vacancy rates continue to increase, threatening the ability to educate future healthcare professionals (Darnell et al., 2020; Gazza, 2022). Due to the shortage of qualified educators, faculty in academia are expected to fulfill multiple roles, thus increasing workload demands (Singh et al., 2019). With increased workload expectations, faculty require frequent adaptation to maintain a healthy work-life balance (Poole & Spies, 2021; Singh et al., 2019).
Previous research in academia has found correlations between work-life balance and emotional exhaustion, well-being, job retention, educator burnout, and job satisfaction using …
