E-cigarette use among adolescents is a growing public health concern, driven by discreet designs, appealing flavors, and social influences. Despite high addiction rates, most teen users express a desire to quit, though evidence-based cessation tools remain limited. Behavioral interventions, including tech-based programs like This Is Quitting and smokeSCREEN, show promise. Pharmacotherapy, particularly varenicline, may support quitting, though its role in adolescents is still under investigation. Pediatricians must address this issue through empathetic, multifaceted approaches that combine education, behavioral support, and emerging treatments to curb early nicotine dependence and its long-term health consequences.

Hypothyroid patients on stable long-term oral levothyroxine (T4) dosage are at risk of developing overt hypothyroidism after small bowel (SB) resection. This can happen despite equivalent peri-operative intravenous (IV) supplementation and resumption of preoperative oral T4 dosage when post-operative oral medication is tolerated. This situation is not specifically addressed in any of the major guidelines for T4 oral replacement in this setting and may be underrecognized, leading to diagnostic and management challenges.

Methotrexate (MTX) is an anti-folate drug with anti-inflammatory and anti-proliferative properties. Low-dose methotrexate (10-25mg/week) is widely recognized as a safe and effective treatment for various autoimmune disorders. While toxicity from low dose methotrexate is uncommon it can lead to severe complications like pancytopenia. We present a case of a 68-year-old male with a history of steroid-resistant Polymyalgia Rheumatica on methotrexate (20 mg weekly) and prednisone. He presented to the emergency room with oral mucosal lesions and reduced oral intake. Upon evaluation, he was found to have pancytopenia and transaminitis, raising concern for methotrexate toxicity. Treatment included folinic acid rescue therapy …

Hyperthyroidism can lead to serious cardiovascular complications, including arrhythmias, high-output heart failure, and myocardial ischemia. Thyrotoxicosis, a hypermetabolic emergency, may mimic or exacerbate acute coronary syndrome (ACS) and, though rare, has been associated with takotsubo cardiomyopathy. We present a case of a 54-year-old thyrotoxic female without significant cardiovascular history who presented with atypical chest pain complicated by both takotsubo cardiomyopathy and myocardial infarction. This case not only emphasizes the diagnostic challenge posed by thyroid-induced cardiac dysfunctions but also highlights the importance of multidisciplinary management in these patients.

Stercoral colitis (SC) is a rare and potentially lethal condition characterized by severe colonic inflammation resulting from fecal impaction. This disorder is more prevalent among the elderly and vulnerable groups, especially those on chronic opioids. Our case study involves a 56-year-old male with a history of chronic opioid use who faced an acute colonic obstruction due to longstanding constipation. Despite receiving surgical treatment, the patient dies from ischemic bowel complications and multiorgan failure. The case accentuates the complexities of diagnosing and treating stercoral colitis, highlighting the critical need for early identification and proactive therapeutic intervention to prevent fatal outcomes.

Investigation Of The Optimal Length Of Discharge Summaries In Care Transitions: A Cross-Sectional Study, Taku Harada, Shintaro Kosaka, Aki Morishima, Seitaro Iguchi
Journal of Community Hospital Internal Medicine Perspectives
Introduction
Discharge summaries are essential documents that support continuity of care during patient transitions between inpatient and outpatient settings. They help ensure that crucial clinical information is conveyed accurately and completely. However, while their clinical significance is well established, there is little consensus on the optimal format, particularly in terms of length and structural clarity. Excessively brief summaries may omit key details, while overly lengthy ones can hinder efficient information transfer. Despite varied suggestions in the literature—ranging from half a page to four pages—empirical data on physician preferences are limited.
Methods
We conducted a cross-sectional, web-based survey among physicians who …

Optical Signature As A Modern Means Of Judicial Evidence A Comparative Study, Fadia Mohamed Ismail
Imam Ja'afar Al-Sadiq University Journal of Legal Studies
In light of the development taking place in information technology, the patterns of contracts began to shift from the physical (traditional) pattern to the technological (immaterial) pattern, which is carried out through the Internet and is called electronic contracts. These contracts include optical signature, which is a prerequisite for their validity and enforcement. In the light of electronic commerce, if disputes arise related to these electronic contracts, the signature has an important role in proving and resolving these disputes before the courts. Also, the biggest problem facing the litigants to establish disputes that take place over the Internet is information …

Civil Confrontation Of The Phenomenon Of Building On Agricultural Land For Residential Purposes, Mahmoud Adel Mahmoud
Imam Ja'afar Al-Sadiq University Journal of Legal Studies
The growing population is making city centers housing inadequate for residents, leading to urban spread that takes away green areas. This situation creates problems, mainly an imbalance in the urban environment and a risk to agricultural land, which is essential for food security. In Iraq, lawmakers have established ways to protect agricultural land from development. Still, poor enforcement of these laws has worsened these issues, resulting in the loss of green spaces with each new residential expansion. From this view, our study's issue has come up, focusing on whether the rules made by the Iraqi legislator are good enough to …

"Elements Don’T Mix!": Unearthing Racial Scripts And A Rhetorical Economy Of Whiteness In Disney And Pixar's Elemental, Linsay M. Cramer, Gabriel A. Cruz
Communication, Media, and Culture
Using a narrative rhetorical approach, we map how Disney and Pixar’s 2023 film, Elemental, sustains a rhetorical economy of whiteness, as theorized by Asen and Kelly, which emphasizes the degree to which rhetorical constructions of racial difference are foundational to whiteness and economic systems. We identify and critique how Elemental discursively contributes to a system of exclusivity for those within the bounds of whiteness concerning economic mobility via racial scripts. Created and produced during Joe Biden’s United States (U.S.) presidential term (2021–2025), Elemental offers a metaphorical tale that engages the fractious, politically conservative anxieties concerning diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) …

New Fiber And Graph Combinations Of Convex Bodies, Steven Hoehner, Sudan Xing
New Fiber And Graph Combinations Of Convex Bodies, Steven Hoehner, Sudan Xing
Mathematical Sciences Faculty Publications and Presentations
Three new combinations of convex bodies are introduced and studied: the fiber, chord, and graph combinations. These combinations are defined in terms of the fibers and graphs of pairs of convex bodies, and each operation generalizes the classical Steiner symmetral, albeit in different ways. For the fiber and chord combinations, we derive Brunn-Minkowski-type inequalities and the corresponding Minkowski's first inequalities. We also prove that the general affine surface areas are concave (respectively, convex) with respect to the graph sum, thereby generalizing fundamental results of Ye (Indiana Univ. Math. J. 14 (2014), 1-19) on the monotonicity of the general affine surface …

Thermo-Driven Structural And Optical Variations For The Improved Bidirectional Photodetection Of Ag2o@ Cdte Thin Films, Ahmed M. Nawar, Ahmed Ramzy, Shehab E. Ali, A. A.M. Farag, Ahmed M. El-Mahalawy
Nanotechnology Research Centre
Bidirectional photodetection is an emerging functionality in advanced optoelectronic systems, characterized by the ability of a photodetector to respond to the incident light under both forward and reverse biasing voltage. For this aim, a layer of silver oxide (Ag2O) is deposited on CdTe thin films, and then, directly, the fabricated Ag2O@CdTe samples on quartz and n-Si substrates are thermally annealed (from 100 to 400◦C). In general, the surface topography is driven by the post-annealing process; besides that, the crystallinity of Ag2O@CdTe samples is improved at 200◦C. The optical characteristics of transmittance and reflectance spectrophotometric measurements at normal incidence revealed a …

Improved Berezin Radius Inequalities For Functional Hilbert Space Operators, Mojtaba Bakherad, Ulaş Yamanci, Mohammad W. Alomari
Improved Berezin Radius Inequalities For Functional Hilbert Space Operators, Mojtaba Bakherad, Ulaş Yamanci, Mohammad W. Alomari
Turkish Journal of Mathematics
The Berezin number of an operator S is defined by ber(S) = supλ∈Θ |Ŝ(λ)| = supλ∈Θ |⟨Sĸ̂λ, ĸ̂λ⟩|, where Ŝ(λ) = ⟨Sĸ̂λ, ĸ̂λ⟩ (λ ∈ Θ) is the Berezin transform of an operator S on the functional Hilbert space ℋ = ℋ(Θ) and ĸ̂λ = ĸλ / ‖ĸλ‖ is the normalized reproducing kernel of ℋ. In this paper, we show an improvement of the classical Cauchy–Schwarz inequality involving the Berezin number. Moreover, some Berezin numbers inequalities are proven for invertible operators.

On Multiplicative Order Convergence And Multiplicative Order Continuous Operators, Hüma Gürkök, Bahri̇ Turan
Turkish Journal of Mathematics
Let A and B be two f-algebras. This paper establishes the theoretical framework for multiplicative order convergence, clarifying its definition, properties, and relations to other convergence types. This includes a detailed discussion on the conditions under which multiplicative order convergence and order convergence, as well as unbounded order convergence, mutually imply each other. We establish an extension theorem for multiplicative order continuous operators, similar to Veksler’s theorem for order continuous operators. As a result of this theorem, we derive the order structure of the space of multiplicative order continuous operators. We show that the space Lmo(A, …

Nonoscillatory Solutions Of Third-Order Nonlinear Dynamic Equations: Existence And Nonexistence, Özkan Öztürk, Elvan Akin, Nesli̇han Nesli̇ye Pelen
Turkish Journal of Mathematics
This paper investigates a third-order nonlinear dynamic equation on arbitrary time scales, a nonempty closed subset of the real numbers, unifying continuous and discrete analyses. We study the qualitative behavior of nonoscillatory solutions and their quasi-derivatives, focusing on their limiting behaviors. The existence of such solutions are established using improper integral criteria and Schauder’s and Knaster’s fixed point theorems. In addition, we establish the criteria for the nonexistence of nonoscillatory solutions. Furthermore, we prove the existence of Kneser-type solutions of the corresponding linear dynamic equation on isolated time scales, addressing an open problem in the literature. Several examples of theoretical …
Majorization Properties For Analytic Functions With Positive Real Part, Oya Mert
Majorization Properties For Analytic Functions With Positive Real Part, Oya Mert
Turkish Journal of Mathematics
The majorization feature is important when investigating analytical functions’ geometric properties. The present work focuses on the majorization property for a general Ma-Minda type function class S*φ(γ, λ) of starlike functions of complex order, which is described with the Ruscheweyh differential operator. In the context of the main theorem, consequences are presented for various special functions φ having a positive real part. Furthermore, the Ruscheweyh differential operator extends a representation formula and investigates an upper-bound formula. Examples of upper bounds for analytic functions are also presented.

Specifically, we consider three classes of equations: a strongly damped wave equation with a nonlinear damping term; a strongly damped wave equation incorporating both a nonlinear damping term and a nonlinear source term; and a strongly damped wave equation with a nonlinear source term and a linear weak damping term. For each class, we establish structural stability results, showing that the solutions depend continuously on the relevant parameters.
