Good Cause Does Not (Necessarily) Equal Housing Stability: An Empirical Examination Of Holdover Evictions By Landlord Type, Victoria M. Esposito, Cynthia Bott Jan 2026

Good Cause Does Not (Necessarily) Equal Housing Stability: An Empirical Examination Of Holdover Evictions By Landlord Type, Victoria M. Esposito, Cynthia Bott

Western New England Law Review

In light of the ongoing housing crisis, several municipalities and states have passed or are considering measures to stem evictions and keep as many people as possible housed. One of the most prominent of these is the requirement that private landlords have good cause to evict their tenants. However, there is little scholarship analyzing how and whether good cause has worked in the settings where it has existed longest: public housing and publicly funded non-profit housing.

Good cause eviction protections are intended to protect tenants from holdover evictions—i.e., evictions due to the end or termination of a lease rather than …

Managing The Mood: How Managerial Communication Shapes The Experience Of Emotional Labor Among Restaurant Employees, Brynn Olverson Jan 2026

Managing The Mood: How Managerial Communication Shapes The Experience Of Emotional Labor Among Restaurant Employees, Brynn Olverson

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

Restaurant work is emotionally demanding work for servers and bartenders. Organizational Support Theory (Eisenberger et al., 1986) suggests that employees’ perceptions of their organizations’ support can bolster the negative side effects of such work. However, past instruments used to measure these perceptions do not distinguish between types of emotional experience, nor separate perceptions of emotional support from other forms of support. Likewise, OST notes that supervisors play a key role in influencing perceptions of organizational support, but more work is needed to determine specific communicative behaviors that can increase perceptions of organizational support. The study at hand proposes that managers' …

The Fertilization President: A Rhetorical Analysis Of The United States’ Rebirth Of Pronatalism, Kara Vetch Jan 2026

The Fertilization President: A Rhetorical Analysis Of The United States’ Rebirth Of Pronatalism, Kara Vetch

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

The United States experienced one of the lowest birth rates in decades in 2024 and has been blamed by policymakers for poor economic and societal outcomes. To combat this, President Donald Trump signed an executive order to encourage healthcare insurances to lower the cost of fertility treatments. Policies encouraging more births align with pronatalist ideologies, the belief that higher national birth rates are better for society. Furthermore, Vice President JD Vance and social media influencers, Malcolm and Simone Collins, have built a strong resurgence of pronatalist ideologies through public addresses and interviews long before Trump’s executive order. For an in-depth …

Cyber Security Related To Agricultural Data Encryption Using Edge Computing Devices, Mohammad Ashik Alahe Jan 2026

Cyber Security Related To Agricultural Data Encryption Using Edge Computing Devices, Mohammad Ashik Alahe

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

Smart Agriculture increasingly relies on image-based sensing, edge computing, and artificial intelligence to support data-driven decision-making in modern farming systems. While these technologies improve productivity and resource efficiency, they also introduce significant cybersecurity risks, particularly agricultural images transmitted and processed in real-time on resource-constrained edge devices. Unauthorized access, data manipulation, and interception of image data can lead to incorrect agronomic decisions and severe economic consequences. Despite this risk, efficient and practical cybersecurity solutions for real-time agricultural imaging remain limited. This study addresses these challenges by developing and evaluating encryption-based cybersecurity frameworks tailored for real-time agricultural image protection on edge computing …

The Role Of Occupational Therapy In Developing Aquatic Programs For Children Diagnosed With Autism, Giavanna Stavros Jan 2026

The Role Of Occupational Therapy In Developing Aquatic Programs For Children Diagnosed With Autism, Giavanna Stavros

Occupational Therapy | OTD Capstone Projects

There is a need for inclusion in therapeutic aquatic programming for children diagnosed with autism (ASD), as their increased participation in aquatic interventions and activities promotes safety and well-being for this population. Pediatric occupational therapists (OTs) are vital to fill this gap in skill, as pediatric OTs consistently work with children diagnosed with ASD (Jaicks, 2024), and core principles of the occupational therapy (OT) profession include enhancing one’s safety and well-being (American Occupational Therapy Association (AOTA), 2025). Children diagnosed with ASD must have the opportunity to engage in swimming and aquatic therapy, as this population is at a higher risk …

Promoting Postpartum Maternal Self-Efficacy Through Prenatal Pelvic Floor Health And Sensory Modulation Education, Cate Smith

Occupational Therapy | OTD Capstone Projects

Pelvic floor therapy, also called pelvic floor health care, is an emerging field for occupational therapy practitioners. Pelvic floor dysfunction (PFD) is a common health outcome after pregnancy and childbirth. Although most women receive consistent prenatal health care, they do not receive the education they need to manage symptoms of PFD such as incontinence, pain, and sensory dysregulation during the postpartum period. Occupational therapy can play a meaningful role in educating and supporting women during the prenatal period, postpartum healing, and role acquisition. This doctoral capstone project researched educational strategies to improve self-efficacy among perinatal women. Albert Bandura defines self-efficacy …

Strengthening Communication And Collaboration Between The Student Support Triad (Teachers, Caregivers, And Health Professionals) In Schools, Jasmine E. Henley Jan 2026

Strengthening Communication And Collaboration Between The Student Support Triad (Teachers, Caregivers, And Health Professionals) In Schools, Jasmine E. Henley

Occupational Therapy | OTD Capstone Projects

Teachers, caregivers, and health professionals, who are key stakeholders that form a student support triad, each face a range of challenges and barriers that impact their ability to communicate and collaborate with one another, therefore impacting the student and their ability to access and participate in meaningful occupations. Though these challenges and barriers for each stakeholder are well-documented individually, there is limited evidence on solutions to strengthen communication across the triad and solutions that center the student and their engagement in meaningful occupations. This project aims to bridge this gap, despite the greater systemic barriers, by developing remedial solutions that …

Sensory Friendly Summers: Designing Inclusive Camp Experiences For Children With Sensory Processing Challenges, Isandla Blanc

Occupational Therapy | OTD Capstone Projects

Children with sensory processing challenges may experience barriers to participation in everyday activities. While summer camps offer opportunities for social development, play, and growth, staff may have limited training and resources to support children with different sensory needs. This can create challenges to participation and inclusion within traditional summer camp environments. The purpose of this capstone project was to develop, implement, and evaluate a staff training program aimed at increasing staff understanding of sensory processing and providing practical strategies to support campers with sensory processing challenges.

A project-level needs assessment was conducted through informal staff conversations, observations of daily camp …

The Fiduciary Game, Lauren R. Roth Jan 2026

The Fiduciary Game, Lauren R. Roth

Elisabeth Haub School of Law Faculty Publications

Fiduciary duties are supposed to bridge the gap between public and private law. Private actors who engage in “public or quasi-public” functions (e.g., corporate directors and pension administrators) are often subject to fiduciary constraints to protect vulnerable parties who lack power in relationships with these actors. Recently, scholars have argued that both courts and legislatures have inappropriately expanded the use of fiduciary duties to purely private relationships. But what if the problem is not the expansion of fiduciary duties to private relationships, but the increasing delegation of public powers to private actors whose behavior cannot be adequately constrained by fiduciary …

Examining The Causes And Consequences Of Diverse Agricultural Management Practices On Land Carbon Dynamics In Eastern South Dakota, Khushboo Jain Jan 2026

Examining The Causes And Consequences Of Diverse Agricultural Management Practices On Land Carbon Dynamics In Eastern South Dakota, Khushboo Jain

Dissertations and Theses

Climate-smart agricultural practices such as conservation tillage, increased crop residue cover, and cover cropping play a critical role in improving soil health, enhancing climate resilience, and reducing carbon losses from croplands. However, their spatial distribution, long-term impacts on land–atmosphere carbon fluxes, and the ability to monitor them efficiently at regional scales remain insufficiently understood. This dissertation addresses these gaps through an integrated remote sensing, machine learning, and modeling framework applied across eastern South Dakota. Firstly, I developed a satellite-based approach to map tillage practices and detect cover crop presence using multisource spectral indices and environmental drivers. A machine learning classifier …

A Poor Man's Cup: Chicory Experimentation In Nebraska,1890-1900, Rebecca Hupp Jan 2026

A Poor Man's Cup: Chicory Experimentation In Nebraska,1890-1900, Rebecca Hupp

Dissertations and Theses

“A Poor Man’s Cup” explores how Nebraskans actively confronted the problems of the late nineteenth-century through experimenting with new commodities. Prolonged severe drought, economic depression, and poor grain prices created a troublesome situation that grew in complexity as U.S. markets expanded globally and agriculture underwent professionalization. Some lay farmers, like Gabriel and Philomena Bazelman of Holt County, did not wait for new methods to find their way through the experiment station system and instead conducted trials themselves. Through piecing together the story of Nebraska chicory production with periodicals from the 1890s, experiment station bulletins, and Congressional reports, this thesis demonstrates …

Economic Impacts Of Alaska Fiscal Options 2026, Brett Watson, Noah Burke, Mike Jones, Spencer Perry, Brock Wilson Jan 2026

Economic Impacts Of Alaska Fiscal Options 2026, Brett Watson, Noah Burke, Mike Jones, Spencer Perry, Brock Wilson

ISER Reports

The State of Alaska faces persistent budget challenges resulting from declining oil prices and production. Because current major revenue sources—petroleum and the Permanent Fund (POMV)—are not explicitly tied to internal economic activity, there is an "Alaska disconnect" between state growth and public revenue. ISER researchers evaluated 11 primary fiscal options + three variations. These included changes to state spending, broad-based taxes, and business taxes. Nine of these options were selected to match those ISER evaluated in 2016. In addition, ISER modelled two new options related to business taxes. ISER also evaluated three variations of these options. Any options implemented will …

This study will also engage recently released prisoners to …

Preceptor Preparedness And Its Effect On Newly Hired Nurse Retention, Nena Theresa Hatchett Jan 2026

Preceptor Preparedness And Its Effect On Newly Hired Nurse Retention, Nena Theresa Hatchett

West Chester University Graduate Theses, Dissertations, and Final Projects

Abstract

The transition from nursing student to professional practice is a high-risk period for newly graduated registered nurses (NGRNs), often associated with role strain, limited clinical confidence, and high turnover. Structured preceptor mentorship programs have been identified as critical interventions to support both preceptors and NGRNs, enhancing job satisfaction, instruction competence, and workforce retention. This Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) project employed a quality improvement design guided by Lewin’s Change Theory to evaluate the impact of a structured preceptor mentorship program in a mid-sized acute care hospital. Five preceptors and twelve NGRNs participated in an eight-week intervention that included mentor …

A Dual-Emission Polymer-Dots/Gold-Nanoclusters Nanohybrid For Ratiometric Fluorescence Detection Of Hg²⁺, Sha Wu Jan 2026

A Dual-Emission Polymer-Dots/Gold-Nanoclusters Nanohybrid For Ratiometric Fluorescence Detection Of Hg²⁺, Sha Wu

Dissertations and Theses

Heavy metals, such as Hg, Cd, Pb, and Cr, become a serious environmental problem because they are highly toxic, bioaccumulation, and long-term persistence, required a high sensitivity and selectivity detection method. Although laboratory testing instruments, such as inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry, offer high sensitivity, their practical application is limited because they rely on large-scale equipment and complex sample pre-treatment processes. Single-emission fluorescence probes are simpler but can be affected by variations in probe concentration, excitation intensity, and measurement conditions. In this study, a dual-emission nanohybrid that consists of poly(9,9-di-n-hexylfluorenyl-2,7-diyl) (PDHF) and bovine serum albumin (BSA), termed as PDHF-Pdots/BSA-AuNCs nanohybrid, …

Image-Derived 3d Hepatic Lobule Modeling Of Acetaminophen-Induced Hepatotoxicity, Rebecca Lauren Strauss Jan 2026

Image-Derived 3d Hepatic Lobule Modeling Of Acetaminophen-Induced Hepatotoxicity, Rebecca Lauren Strauss

Selected Full-Text Master Theses 2021-

The liver’s highly structured vascular microarchitecture governs blood perfusion, metabolic zonation, and the spatial distribution of xenobiotic toxicity. Current computational models of hepatic drug metabolism often oversimplify this geometry, limiting their ability to capture realistic flow dynamics and cellular injury patterns. This study develops a multiscale computational framework to predict acetaminophen-induced hepatotoxicity using image-derived, three-dimensional hepatic lobule geometries. The model integrates computational fluid dynamics (CFD) with a mechanistic cellular injury module to simulate the interplay between perfusion, metabolism, and hepatocellular viability.

Realistic vascular reconstruction was achieved from histopathology liver slices, and the resulting geometry was meshed and solved using ANSYS …

Gender, And Socioeconomic Status In School-Based Speech-Language Pathology Decision-Making For Adolescents With Traumatic Brain Injury: A Critically Appraised Topic, Geneva Renee Toledo

Selected Full-Text Master Theses 2021-

Purpose: Adolescents are at greater risk for traumatic brain injury (TBI), and TBI-related symptoms may contribute to disciplinary actions that increase their risk of entering the school-toconfinement pipeline. Given the disproportionate representation of racially marginalized male adolescents within this pipeline, this critically appraised topic (CAT) examined how race, gender, and socioeconomic status may influence school-based speech-language pathology (SLP) services and clinical decision-making following TBI. Method: A structured search of five electronic databases was conducted to identify studies examining speech-language pathologists’ (SLPs’) clinical decision-making and management of adolescents with TBI in relation to race, gender, and socioeconomic status. Relevant studies were …

Experiences Of Marginalization At The Intersection Of Race, Ethnicity, And Disability In Higher Education, Nora L. Portillo Jan 2026

Experiences Of Marginalization At The Intersection Of Race, Ethnicity, And Disability In Higher Education, Nora L. Portillo

Theses, Dissertations and Culminating Projects

Black and Latine college students with disabilities navigate higher education at the intersection of racism and ableism, yet their experiences remain underexamined. Autism and ADHD are particularly underrepresented in research and public discourse; moreover, unlike other disability categories in which students of color are overrepresented, Black and Latine children are less likely than white children to be accurately identified, and both disabilities are often framed around white prototypes. Guided by Disability Critical Race Theory, the present exploratory qualitative study used semi-structured interviews with ten undergraduates identifying as Black and/or Latine and with ADHD and/or on the autism spectrum attending a …
