Assembling A Vignette Of Irish Police Masculinities Through Socio-Historical Rural Crime Research, Clay Darcy Sep 2026

Assembling A Vignette Of Irish Police Masculinities Through Socio-Historical Rural Crime Research, Clay Darcy

Research Outputs: 2025-Present

This paper assembles a vignette of Irish police masculinities from the 1940s and 1950s. Based on historical analysis of a volume of crimes compiled by members of An Garda Síochána (Ireland’s police and security service), and Irish newspaper records, this paper reveals how policing practices and masculinities converged through the detection and recording of rural crimes. An Garda Síochána was exclusively male at the time, and police officers were dominant instrumental figures in rural communities, operating within a tight culture of Catholic religiosity and state censorship. These circumstances allowed them to maintain an assemblage of masculinity that was built on …

Turkey’S Water Strategy Towards Iraq And Syria After 2003, Zainab Hussein Hirz

Alustath Journal for Human and Social Sciences

This study analyzes Turkey’s water strategy toward Iraq and Syria after 2003, focusing on its geopolitical dimensions, risks, and implications for the water security of the two downstream countries, which depend heavily on trans boundary water resources. It examines the impact of Turkish water projects, particularly dams and irrigation schemes, on regulating the flows of the Tigris and Euphrates rivers and their repercussions for water security in Iraq and Syria. The study finds that declining water inflows result from interacting factors, primarily the expansion of Turkish water projects, alongside climate change and domestic factors related to water resources management. The Representation Of Medical Humanities In Scott Mcpherson's Marvin's Room, Ahmed Abed Mohammed, Haitham Kamel Al-Zubaidi Sep 2026

The Representation Of Medical Humanities In Scott Mcpherson's Marvin's Room, Ahmed Abed Mohammed, Haitham Kamel Al-Zubaidi

Alustath Journal for Human and Social Sciences

This study is a critical attempt of reading Scott McPherson's Marvin's Room in the light of medical humanities in postmodern American drama, arguing that the play does not deal with illness as merely a medical case. Instead, it shows that illness becomes a human condition that changes the patients' bodies, their behaviors, families, homes and even the meaning of care. The study throws light on Bessie's leukemia, Marvin's chronic illness, Lee's return and the confined domestic space as related signs of suffering, responsibility, fear and possible reunion among the members of the family. Medical humanities is highly relevant to this …

Morphological Processing Instruction And Academic Word List Acquisition Among Undergraduate Efl Students: A Mixed-Methods Educational Psycholinguistic Study, Noor Yaseen Khudhair Sep 2026

Morphological Processing Instruction And Academic Word List Acquisition Among Undergraduate Efl Students: A Mixed-Methods Educational Psycholinguistic Study, Noor Yaseen Khudhair

Alustath Journal for Human and Social Sciences

This study examined the effect of a learning strategy based on explicit morphological processing on the acquisition of Academic Word List (AWL) items among undergraduate EFL students, within an educational psycholinguistic framework. A quasi-experimental, pretest–posttest, non-equivalent control group design was combined with a qualitative strand in a convergent mixed-methods approach. Seventy-two undergraduate students enrolled in an English for Academic Purposes (EAP) course were assigned by intact class to an experimental group (n = 36), which received explicit instruction in morphological analysis, and a control group (n = 36), which received conventional definition- and context-based vocabulary instruction. Both groups were taught …

One article has been selected from Fox news media to analyze the accusations between the American foreign minister Mark Pompeo and the Chinese equivalent Ku Lang. Channels, social media, and blogs all use text and context to write prejudice and ideology; this study …

Forensic Speaker Identification Of Drug- Affected Speech: An Acoustic Study, Hiba Jebur Hamzah, Balqis I.G Rashid Sep 2026

Forensic Speaker Identification Of Drug- Affected Speech: An Acoustic Study, Hiba Jebur Hamzah, Balqis I.G Rashid

Alustath Journal for Human and Social Sciences

In a forensic context, identifying an individual from a voice recording, whether he/she is under the influence of drugs, can help narrow down the suspect pool. It is apparent that there are limited scientific studies on the influence of illegal drugs on speech, probably due to ethical issues and their sensitivity. Drugs are divided into four categories: depressants, which affect the brain efficiency (as in alcohol); stimulants, which increase confusion and speech fluency (for example cocaine, methamphetamines); hallucinogens, which distort the perception of reality (e.g., LSD); and opiates, which represent a common medical treatment but if it is used overdosage …

Building Foundations For Kindergarten: Supporting Early Literacy And Social-Emotional Development, Alyssa M. Monroe Sep 2026

Building Foundations For Kindergarten: Supporting Early Literacy And Social-Emotional Development, Alyssa M. Monroe

Masters Projects

School readiness is an important factor in students’ success in kindergarten, but there are different opinions about what school readiness means. Some perspectives emphasize social-emotional development, independence, and positive attitudes toward school, while others prioritize language, literacy, and academic skills (Brown, 2023). Research suggests that success in kindergarten can influence students’ long-term educational and life outcomes (Davoudzadeh, 2015). Therefore, understanding the expectations of kindergarten and the factors that contribute to school readiness is important for families, educators, and policymakers. This paper examines differing perspectives on school readiness and considers how families can support children in developing the skills needed to …

Alustath Journal for Human and Social Sciences

This research focuses on Clara Zetkin›s socialist feminist thought and its impact on the German and international labor movements between 1890 and 1933. Through a historical and analytical study, it traces her intellectual and political development and clarifies the European conditions that facilitated the emergence of her vision for the working woman. The Discourse Of The Discouragers In Qur’Anic Context–An Objective Study, Zainab Salman Dawood Sep 2026

The Discourse Of The Discouragers In Qur’Anic Context–An Objective Study, Zainab Salman Dawood

Alustath Journal for Human and Social Sciences

The study examines discouragers in Qur’anic discourse as an intellectual and behavioral phenomenon that weakens individual and collective will and hinders work and reform. Using a thematic interpretation approach, it explores the semantic and educational dimensions of this phenomenon and the Qur’an’s method of diagnosing and addressing it. Qur’anic discourse addresses discouragement both explicitly and implicitly, not merely exposing and warning against it, but also establishing an educational and preventive framework based on awareness, vigilance, patience, and piety. This framework strengthens steadfastness, initiative, and constructive action while mitigating the effects of discouragement within the believing community.

Making Generative Ai Expectations Visible: Extending The Tilt Framework For Transparent Assignment Design, Andrew Wiss, Karen Singer-Freeman, Jennifer Pattershall-Geide, Kyle Dobbeck, Christina Heminger, Scott Quinlan, Joy Volarich, George Gray

Montclair State University Scholarship & Creative Works

Instructor practices in higher education for setting assignment-level expectations have been meaningfully shaped by the Transparency in Learning and Teaching (TILT) Framework (Winkelmes, 2023a, 2023b) which encourages the development of clear guidance for students around each assignment’s purpose, core tasks, and assessment criteria. The TILT Framework has been widely adopted by faculty and instructional support professionals (Winkelmes et al., n.d.) as a methodology that can align instructor expectations with student understanding and effort on a given assignment. The line of applied research contained in this article extends the existing TILT model to provide students with transparent genAI guidance. The authors …
