Being There For Mom: The Strengths Of Daughtering, Allison M. Alford, Kaitlin E. Phillips, Luke V. Stipanovic, Cayd A. Rocha-Barnette, Michelle Miller-Day

Communication Faculty Articles and Research

Objective

Daughters undertake daughtering, or the everyday role portrayal of contributing to a meaningful family relationship with their mothers, but the labor of it is often invisible.

Background

Using a strengths-based approach, we investigated what daughters do well in their relationships with mothers.

Method

We analyzed the responses of 1,444 women to the open-ended question, “What do you do well as a daughter?” to learn more about how women describe their daughtering. Utilizing the artificial intelligence of a large language model for data analysis, we supplied definitions and descriptions of 12 virtues and strengths from existing literature and created a …

Peninsula Medical School

Background: Sex/gender bias have been well-documented in clinical medicine. However, few studies have assessed sex/gender disparities specifically in major trauma care. This scoping review aims to explore sex and gender-based differences in the emergency management of severely injured patients. Methods: A systematic literature review was conducted in the following electronic databases: Medline Ovid ALL, Embase, CINAHL with Full Text, Web of Science Core Collection, Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials with search criteria including keywords and mesh terms: gender, sex, major trauma, wounds and injuries. Three reviewers conducted the article selection. Results: Seventy-four full-text articles were included in the study. …

Resistance to HIF-2α inhibitors such as Belzutifan underscores the need to better understand how HIF-2α is transcriptionally regulated in clear cell renal cell carcinoma (ccRCC). Here, we uncover a cytokine-driven enhancer mechanism that sustains HIF-2α expression through the JAK1-STAT3 signaling pathway. Using a genome-wide CRISPR screen in VHL-deficient ccRCC cells, we identified SOCS3 as a key negative regulator of HIF-2α. Mechanistically, loss of SOCS3 activates JAK1-STAT3 signaling, leading to the recruitment of STAT3 to distal enhancers upstream of EPAS1 that physically loop to its promoter to drive HIF-2α transcription. This cytokine-enhancer circuit was recapitulated in ccRCC patient samples and functionally …

Logic Model Development Through A Feasibility Rct For A Group-Based Weight Management Programme, Rod Sheaff, Shokraneh Moghadam, Laura Hollands, Lily Hawkins, Dawn Swancutt, Jenny Lloyd, Jonathan Pinkney, Mark Tarrant

School of Psychology

ObjectivesClinical psychology interventions for reducing obesity have developed alongside pharmacological and surgical treatments, but usually as interventions for individual patients. Any healthcare intervention rests on a logic model: assumptions that through specific physical and social mechanisms, it will produce certain intended outcomes, provided that conducive background conditions (‘contexts’) exist. Using evidence from the feasibility trial preceding a full randomised controlled trial (RCT), this paper assesses the empirical validity of the initial logic model of a new group-based weight management intervention: PROGROUP, designed for patients with body mass index (BMI) ≥40 kg/m2 or ≥35 kg/m2 with comorbidities. We aimed to test …

Drug Procurement Methods And Challenges In Asian Low And Lower-Middle-Income Countries: A Systematic Review, Ferina Septiani Damanik, Anna Wahyuni Widayanti, Muhammad Qowiyul Amin

The Thai Journal of Pharmaceutical Sciences

Background: Pharmaceutical procurement plays a pivotal role in healthcare within Asian low and lower-middle-income countries (LLMICs), ensuring accessibility to essential, cost-effective, and high-quality medicines. Tailored approaches are imperative due to specific challenges inherent in these countries.
Objectives: This review examines several drug procurement systems in Asian countries with LLMICs while identifying and evaluating any potential challenges that might arise within the systems.
Materials and Methods: This review using the preferred reporting items for systematic reviews and meta-analyses guidelines and three search engines (PubMed, Science Direct, and Research Gate) employing Boolean search terms. The search focuses on drug procurement, medicine procurement, …

Efficacy And Safety Of Stem Cell-Based Interventions For Burn Wound Healing: A Systematic Review And Meta-Analysis Of Pre-Clinical And Early Clinical Evidence, Prayuth Poowaruttanawiwit, Patsanan Kulla, Naveeya Pakpoomkamonlert Mar 2026

Efficacy And Safety Of Stem Cell-Based Interventions For Burn Wound Healing: A Systematic Review And Meta-Analysis Of Pre-Clinical And Early Clinical Evidence, Prayuth Poowaruttanawiwit, Patsanan Kulla, Naveeya Pakpoomkamonlert

The Thai Journal of Pharmaceutical Sciences

Background: Burn injuries remain a major therapeutic challenge, with conventional treatments often failing to achieve complete functional skin regeneration. Stem cell-based interventions, including mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) and exosome derivatives, have demonstrated regenerative and immunomodulatory potential, yet their translation to clinical practice remains limited.
Objectives: To systematically evaluate the efficacy and safety of stem cell-based therapies for burn wound healing across pre-clinical and clinical studies.
Materials and Methods: Following Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses 2020 guidelines, four databases (PubMed, Embase, Scopus, and Cochrane) were searched through April 2025. Eligible studies included randomized controlled trials and controlled pre-clinical …

The Thai Journal of Pharmaceutical Sciences

Background: Pharmaceutical care activities have been reported to enhance treatment outcomes and cost-effectiveness in critically ill patients. However, relevant and timely data on this topic are still lacking in Thailand.
Objectives: The objective of the study is to investigate the characteristics of drug-related problems (DRPs) identified during pharmaceutical care activities at the medical intensive care unit (MICU) of a tertiary care teaching hospital in Thailand. In addition, we aimed to quantify the impact of pharmacist interventions on hospital drug costs.
Materials and Methods: DRPs identified during pharmaceutical care activities over 3 years were reviewed and classified by the Pharmaceutical Care …
