Utilizing Proactive Rounding With Nursing Leadership To Improve Patient Satisfaction Scores In An Adult Medical-Surgical Unit, Lily A. Bogyah Mar 2026

Utilizing Proactive Rounding With Nursing Leadership To Improve Patient Satisfaction Scores In An Adult Medical-Surgical Unit, Lily A. Bogyah

Student Scholarly Projects

Practice Problem: Patient satisfaction is a key quality indicator that reflects patients’ perceptions of care and the healthcare system’s performance. Patient satisfaction scores at the project site were significantly lower than the national benchmark, particularly on the adult medical-surgical unit.

PICOT: The PICOT question that guided this project was: In patients on an adult medical-surgical unit (P), how does the use of proactive patient rounding conducted by nurse leaders (I) versus current practices alone without such rounding (C) affect patient satisfaction scores over an eight-week period (T)?

Evidence: A literature review of multiple studies found that implementing daily nurse leader …

Water scarcity and flooding are serious universal problems, which are aggravated by population growth, urbanization, and climate change, and which today impact over 2 billion people with a loss of economic value of about 100 billion dollars in 2020 alone. As inflatable hydraulic constructions constructed using reinforced materials, rubber dams have become an effective technology in controlling water flow and storage within rivers, lakes, and reservoirs. The analysis demonstrates that the proportion of the current literature in the analysis is that 76% of the literature is general design and that only 24% consider any case study, with a large percentage …

Decision Making Processes Of Adolescent Women About Entering Intimate, Long-Term Romantic Relationships, Jeannie Miller Mar 2026

Decision Making Processes Of Adolescent Women About Entering Intimate, Long-Term Romantic Relationships, Jeannie Miller

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

There is a high rate of women in their late 20s and early 30s that are in destructive relationships, many because of decisions that were made during adolescence . Little research has focused on understanding the decision making process of entering intimate, long-term romantic relationships from the viewpoint of adult women in their late 20s through 30s who made that decision during adolescence. This phenomenological study allowed for a greater understanding of adolescent decision making, specifically about entering intimate, long-term romantic relationships. The research questions were (a) What are the lived experiences of young women as they enter intimate, long-term …

Retrieval Interference In The Processing Of Relative Clauses: Evidence From The Visual-World Paradigm, Matthew W. Lowder, Gwynna Ryan Mar 2026

Retrieval Interference In The Processing Of Relative Clauses: Evidence From The Visual-World Paradigm, Matthew W. Lowder, Gwynna Ryan

Psychology Faculty Publications

Although object-extracted relative clauses (ORCs) are more difficult to process than subject-extracted relative clauses (SRCs), there is still substantial disagreement regarding the cognitive mechanisms underlying these effects. The current visual-world eyetracking experiment took a novel approach to this problem by examining whether ORC-SRC differences would emerge at the matrix verb during the processing of spoken sentences containing these structures. Fixation patterns at the onset of the matrix verb revealed a tendency for participants to fixate the picture representing the subject of the sentence in both ORCs and SRCs. Crucially, participants considered the picture corresponding to a competing noun more while …

Introduction Interventions that address household-level factors, including food insecurity (FI) and poverty, may reduce HIV risk and improve sexual and reproductive health (SRH) among adolescent girls and young women (AGYW).

Methods This cluster randomised controlled trial in Kenya assessed AGYW living in households of adults enrolled in Shamba Maisha (SM). SM was a multisectoral agricultural livelihood intervention designed to improve HIV health. At the trial end, we used linear and logistic regressions to compare differences between the intervention and control arms in FI, and mental health among AGYW-caregiver pairs and SRH outcomes among the AGYW, accounting for clusters with robust …

Background: For patients with heart failure (HF), hyperkalemia (HK) may prevent optimal renin-angiotensin system inhibitor (RASi) use. Randomized trials show that patiromer, a contemporary potassium binder, reduces serum potassium (sK+) concentrations and HK, potentially enabling RASi optimization. We sought to assess the real-world effectiveness of patiromer in facilitating RASi optimization in HF patients at increased risk of HK.

Methods and results: The CARE-HK in HF (Cardiovascular and Renal Treatment in HF Patients with HK or at High Risk of HK) (NCT04864795) was a prospective registry of patients with chronic HF at increased risk of HK (prior or current …

Michigan Tech Publications

The US Gulf Coastal Plain is a region of diverse forests and management systems and dynamic land use changes. These drivers affect carbon (C) stocks at ecosystem to regional scales, in turn affecting processes such as forest regeneration, hydrologic and biogeochemical cycling, and social and economic systems. We quantified land use change and forest management effects on C stocks in the Gulf Coastal Plain, focusing on soils, using two complementary approaches: meta-analysis of published literature and analysis of forest inventory data. Land use change had larger effects than forest management on soil C stocks at all scales. The direction and …

A New Great Game?: Great Powers Content Re-Sharing And Media Influence In The South Caucasus, Emma A. Lowery

USF Tampa Graduate Theses and Dissertations

In the new digital era of geopolitics, competing great powers support internationally oriented state-sponsored media as integral parts of public diplomacy, seeking to reach foreign publics in an increasingly digital age of information sharing. Leveraging local outlets provides an avenue to influence local publics through pre-approved news. Targeted foreign news outlets actively engage with and re-share content from said media. This research focuses on foreign-originated content from the world’s great powers - the People’s Republic of China, the Russian Federation, and the United States of America. The purpose of this project is to provide insight into how the great powers …

Temporally Modulated Acoustic Environment Alters Inferior Colliculus Tonotopy And Improves Neural Gap Encoding In Aged Cba/Caj Mice, Luis Franco-Waite Mar 2026

Temporally Modulated Acoustic Environment Alters Inferior Colliculus Tonotopy And Improves Neural Gap Encoding In Aged Cba/Caj Mice, Luis Franco-Waite

USF Tampa Graduate Theses and Dissertations

Age-related hearing loss (ARHL) is an omnipresent and progressive decline of hearing that occurs later in life and affects a significant majority of the aged population. While the current accommodations for hearing loss focus on improving comfort and quality of life, they do not address the underlying neural aspects of ARHL. A novel approach for treatment is the augmented acoustic environment (AAE) which utilizes the innate plasticity of the nervous system in response to the external environment. The work presented here documents the research performed on passive noise exposures which target neural aspects in animal models of age-related hearing loss. …

Evaluating U.S. Health Policy Levers Using Difference-In-Differences: Hospital Acquisitions, Global Budgets, And Income Policies, Kola Adegoke

NYMC Student Theses and Dissertations

Abstract

Background: U.S. health policy relies on multiple levers to influence system performance, financial stability, and population health. This dissertation uses a three-paper portfolio to evaluate organizational change (hospital acquisitions), payment reform (Maryland all-payer global budgets), and income-related state policies, applying difference-in-differences (DiD) designs with prespecified diagnostics to support causal interpretation.

Methods: Study 1 examined hospital change-of-ownership (CHOW) acquisitions using a national hospital-year panel from RAND HCRIS (2014–2023), linked to CHOW timing data from 2016–2023. Effects on revenue outcomes were estimated using a staggered difference-in-differences design implemented with the Callaway and Sant’Anna estimator, using doubly robust inverse probability weighting, hospital-level …

Virtual Humans In Virtual Reality: A Scoping Review On Sociability, Fidelity, And Expression, J K Sangeeth Chandran, Marisa Llorens Salvador, Cathy Ennis

Articles

Introduction:

Virtual reality (VR) systems have evolved significantly over the past decade, enabling immersive experiences with enhanced realism and interactivity. This has motivated an interest in socially oriented applications. As user proxies, Virtual Humans (VHs) play essential roles in such applications. However, despite technological advancements, achieving realistic, expressive, and socially responsive VHs continues to present design and implementation challenges. In this scoping review, we present the state-of-the-art of VR VHs, examining the impact of VHs on the user experience.

Methodology:

We reviewed 59 papers retrieved from five databases across three core themes: the implementation and impact of VH facial expressions, …

Reducing Social Isolation In Elderly Hospice Patients Through Structured Social Interventions, Ashley Babayan Mar 2026

Reducing Social Isolation In Elderly Hospice Patients Through Structured Social Interventions, Ashley Babayan

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

This doctoral project was conducted as a quality improvement organizational change initiative aimed at reducing social isolation among elderly hospice patients through structured social interventions. Social isolation is a significant psychosocial concern in hospice populations and is associated with increased emotional distress, depression, and decreased quality of life. Despite hospice care’s holistic philosophy, structured and standardized social engagement interventions are inconsistently implemented across settings, creating a gap in practice. The practice-focused question guiding this project was: In elderly hospice patients experiencing social isolation, how do structured social interventions (regular visits, group activities, and emotional support systems), compared to standard hospice …

Methods: Fifty eligible patients were enrolled in the Intervention Group (SMLP – Structured Music Listening Protocol) and fifty in the Control Group (Standardized Therapy) from a residential treatment center for SUDs. Both groups received standard therapy from the center. The …

Discourses Of “Charades” Amid Conceptions Of Authentic Partnership: How Mathare Residents Evaluate Health Ngo Navigation, Nathaniel Oketch Lubanga Mar 2026

Discourses Of “Charades” Amid Conceptions Of Authentic Partnership: How Mathare Residents Evaluate Health Ngo Navigation, Nathaniel Oketch Lubanga

Dissertations (1934 -)

Health NGOs provide most healthcare in informal settlements. That is the reality on the ground. However, here is a puzzle: many of these organizations possess solid technical skills, yet they struggle to establish partnerships that endure. Why? Understanding how communities view these relationships might tell us something important about what makes partnerships successful or fall apart. The problem is that most research treats residents as passive recipients rather than active participants who shape these relationships through their everyday conversations. Moreover, studies tend to treat power, culture, and participation as separate issues when, in practice, they are intertwined. This qualitative study …

Socioeconomic Disparities In Readmission Outcomes And Cardiac Procedures Among Atrial Fibrillation Hospitalizations, Muhammad U. Almani, Muhammad Yousuf, Noor Fatima, Muhammad Q. Ullah, Muhammed Arshad

Einstein Health Papers

Introduction: Atrial fibrillation (AF) remains one of the leading dysrhythmias incurring hospitalization. We set out to determine the impact of socioeconomic status (SES) on in-hospital cardiac procedures and the readmission outcomes in patients with AF. Methods: The National Readmission Database (NRD) was searched for adults with a primary diagnosis of AF between 2010 and 2019. We determined unplanned AF-specific readmission within 30 days. Median neighborhood household income was assessed by patient zip code as quartiles: low income (Q1), middle income (Q2), upper-middle income (Q3), and high income (Q4). Differences in in-hospital cardiac procedures during the index hospitalization and probability of …
