A pretest, educational PowerPoint presentation, and posttest were used to assess APP baseline knowledge and understanding of the education post-presentation. There …
Exploring School Administrators' Perceptions Of Zero Tolerance Policies For African American Female Students, Keysha D. Knight
Exploring School Administrators' Perceptions Of Zero Tolerance Policies For African American Female Students, Keysha D. Knight
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
Zero tolerance policies disproportionately affect African American female students and contribute to their accelerated entry into the school-to-prison pipeline. Existing literature indicated that these policies subject African American female students to harsher disciplinary practices and that their behaviors were often misunderstood by school administrators. However, there is limited research on how school administrators’ discretionary implementation of zero-tolerance policies contributes to these disparities. The purpose of this general qualitative study was to explore how school administrators interpret and exercise discretion when implementing zero tolerance policies affecting African American female students through the lens of Lipsky’s street-level bureaucracy theory. Four themes were …
Florida Police Officers’ Reflections On Faith And Spirituality Through Lived Experiences, Steven Vose Mcgillicuddy
Florida Police Officers’ Reflections On Faith And Spirituality Through Lived Experiences, Steven Vose Mcgillicuddy
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
This qualitative phenomenological study examined how Florida police officers perceived changes in their spiritual and religious beliefs following prolonged exposure to critical incidents. The research question asked how officers interpreted, adapted, and transformed their spiritual or religious beliefs in response to repeated critical incident exposure. Nine sworn frontline officers participated and were interviewed using a semi structured protocol. Transcripts were analyzed inductively using thematic analysis. Three primary findings emerged: (1) Career and Impact captured cumulative occupational exposure that prompted moral appraisal and coping, and participants did not report uniform loss of faith; (2) Spiritual Belief followed three common trajectories—stability, strengthening/reaffirmation, …

The prevalence of obesity has reached pandemic proportions and is having enormous public health effects. Obesity increases the risk of type 2 diabetes, hypertension, chronic kidney disease, and cardiovascular (CV) disease including coronary artery disease, heart failure, atrial fibrillation, and stroke. Although initial randomized clinical trials of weight-loss strategies through diet and exercise or early medical therapies did not lead to improved CV outcomes, more recent trials using glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) receptor agonists in individuals with obesity have demonstrated CV benefits. At present, there are multiple cardiovascular outcome trials (CVOTs) of novel GLP-1 receptor agonists and investigational products targeting multiple …
Investigation Of Cold-Start Phenomenology In Ethanol-Fueled Active Prechambers Using A Novel Optical Experiment, Cole John Engebretson
Investigation Of Cold-Start Phenomenology In Ethanol-Fueled Active Prechambers Using A Novel Optical Experiment, Cole John Engebretson
Master's Theses (2009 -)
Internal combustion engines (ICEs) are expected to remain a critical component of many energy systems due to their superior power density, low-cost established infrastructure, and rapid fueling capability. However, their continued use will require a transition to reduced-emission, sustainable alternative fuels, such as pure ethanol. This transition introduces significant engineering challenges, as these fuels are not inherently compatible with conventional ICE architectures. To address these challenges, one of the most promising developments is the integration of actively fueled prechambers (APCs) to ICEs. APCs function by expelling reacting jets into the main combustion chambers of an ICE. These high-energy jets can …

A Proposed Methodology For Online Asynchronous Therapeutic Dreamwork, Gregory Sparrow, Ryan Hurd, Yih-Jiun Shen, Kim Phetteplace
Counseling Faculty Publications
The COVID-19 pandemic accelerated the acceptance of online “telemental” health as an alternative to sitebased service delivery. Concurrently, therapists have adopted various asynchronous virtual mental health resources, such as bulletin boards/forums, delayed chat, and email, to supplement traditional practice. Asynchronous dream sharing, pioneered in the early 1980s, has since supported online conferences and ongoing dreamwork communities. However, the potential of asynchronous therapeutic dreamwork (ATD) still needs to be explored. This article reviews the evolution of asynchronous online dream sharing and proposes that combining it with “co-creative” dreamwork—particularly the FiveStar Method—may generate distinctive contributions while providing greater safeguards than content-focused interpretive …
Improving Reclamation Seeding Success Through Seed Technologies, Surface Preparation, And Microbial Inoculants, Josh M. De Santiago Lazalde
Improving Reclamation Seeding Success Through Seed Technologies, Surface Preparation, And Microbial Inoculants, Josh M. De Santiago Lazalde
Theses and Dissertations
Revegetation of reclaimed lands is often limited by poor seed placement, unfavorable surface conditions, and reduced biological activity, particularly on steep or physically degraded substrates where broadcast seeding is commonly used. Improving early seeding establishment under these conditions requires approaches that address both physical and biological barriers to seedling development. We evaluated the effectiveness of surface preparation, seed technologies, and microbial inoculants for improving plant establishment in field and greenhouse settings relevant to mineland reclamation. At the field scale (Chapter 1), we investigated the effects of chain harrowing and seed enhancement treatments on the establishment of grasses, forbs, and shrubs …

Detection Of The Presence And Growth Of E. Coli Bacteria In A Droplet-Based Microfluidic System Using Laser Induced Fluorescence, Oshira Peiris
Theses and Dissertations
Antimicrobial resistance is a biomedical event, wherein an infectious microbe becomes non-responsive to the dosage of a particular antibiotic due to previous overuse or overexposure. Currently, agar plate disc diffusion is used as the gold standard for detecting antimicrobial resistance. The possibility of miniaturizing and speeding up detection techniques for antimicrobial resistance is investigated in this thesis. Microfabrication techniques were used in developing two droplet microfluidic systems interfaced with laser induced fluorescence detection. Microfluidic devices were manufactured with different droplet generating geometries using poly-dimethyl siloxane, soft lithography and hydrophobic surface treatment. The microfluidic devices were tested for droplet quality using …

Ever Virgin: The Alexandrian Contribution To The Theology And Defense Of Mary's Ever Virginity Before The Council Of Ephesus 431, David Hayden Hagerman
Ever Virgin: The Alexandrian Contribution To The Theology And Defense Of Mary's Ever Virginity Before The Council Of Ephesus 431, David Hayden Hagerman
Dissertations (1934 -)
This study argues for the primacy of the early Alexandrian tradition in promoting and effectively defining the doctrine of Mary’s ever virginity prior to the Council of Ephesus 431. In doing so, it argues against the thesis of W. Burghardt, who has argued that the East, unlike the West, was slow to adopt the doctrine, and against the claims of H. von Campenhausen and O. Stegmüller, who have charged the early Alexandrian tradition with an underdeveloped Marian doctrine. As this study shows, among Alexandrian theologians as diverse as Clement, Origen, Athanasius, and Didymus we find the first scriptural proofs of …

Turkish Journal of Biology
Background/aim: Sciatic nerve injury causes a loss of skeletal muscle innervation, reduced motor function, and eventual muscle atrophy. Inflammation and increased protein degradation are key factors contributing to muscle atrophy. Inflammation is activated early during muscle atrophy and can be modulated by various factors. However, the precise role of inflammation in denervation-induced muscle atrophy remains unclear. Materials and methods: Transcriptome sequencing was used to determine that the inflammatory response occurs early during denervation-induced muscle atrophy. RT-qPCR validation of several inflammatory factors showed rapid upregulation at early stages, followed by gradual downregulation. Weighted gene coexpression network analysis of differentially expressed genes …

Nitrogen Transport Patterns And Vegetation Community Optimization In Urban Green Space Soils Using Multifactor Coupling Analysis, Shujian Yang, Baoxi Yu, Zheng He, Baochang Liu, Chang Liu
Turkish Journal of Agriculture and Forestry
As vital components of urban ecosystems, urban green spaces directly affect soil fertility and plant growth through nitrogen transport dynamics. This study addresses the existing methodological gaps in understanding nitrogen cycling within urban green spaces, particularly the unclear interaction mechanisms between vegetation structure and soil physicochemical characteristics. The study was conducted in the Green Expo Park located in Nanjing, China. Using a stratified sampling approach, physicochemical indicators of soil layers were measured and combined with community parameters—including leaf area index, vegetation coverage, and plant density—to identify key drivers through correlation and multiple regression analyses. The regulatory mechanisms of soil physicochemical …

Carnation (Dianthus caryophyllus L.) growth and floral yield are severely reduced when grown in soils with excessive salinity. Mitigation of adverse effects from salinity-induced stress is necessary for sustainable carnation cultivation. Although various approaches have been developed, the use of zinc oxide nanoparticles (ZnO-NPs) to ameliorate these effects remains scarcely explored. The current study explored the potential of ZnO-NPs to alleviate salinity-induced stress by examining their effects on morphophysiological and biochemical traits. A controlled pot experiment was conducted using a factorial design with three concentrations of sodium chloride (0, 50, and 100 mM) and three of ZnO-NPs (0, 50, and …
