Resilience Of Orthodontic Sealants Against Degradation And Microbial Adhesion: A Comparative Study, Michelle X. Cui
Resilience Of Orthodontic Sealants Against Degradation And Microbial Adhesion: A Comparative Study, Michelle X. Cui
UNLV Theses, Dissertations, Professional Papers, and Capstones
Background:
White spot lesions are one of the most common complications encountered during orthodontic treatment. These lesions begin as demineralization of enamel around the appliance due to plaque buildup, resulting in compromised aesthetics. As they continue to develop, white spot lesions progress to cavitation, potentially threatening pulpal vitality, resulting in an increased financial burden for patients. Preventative strategies include patient education, consistent oral hygiene protocols, and the use of fluoride-releasing agents. Orthodontic sealants such as Opal® Seal™ (Ultradent) (OS) and L.E.D. Pro Seal® (Reliance) (PS) have been developed to release and recharge fluoride, thereby reducing the incidence of white spot …

The Highlander Folk School: Incubator For Grassroots Democracy And Its Impacts On The Southern Civil Rights Movement, Kathleen Mcmichael Goodyear
The Highlander Folk School: Incubator For Grassroots Democracy And Its Impacts On The Southern Civil Rights Movement, Kathleen Mcmichael Goodyear
Electronic Theses & Dissertations
Despite the Highlander Folk School’s having played multiple vital roles in the Southern civil rights movement of the 1950s and 1960s, the general public remains unaware of Highlander, which is largely due to its having been omitted from most U.S. history survey course textbooks and ignored by most mainstream historians. These sources perpetuate the image propagated by the 1960s media that the movement was largely composed of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and his fellow charismatic Black male ministers leading their flock of followers—but the movement was much more than that. Highlander’s rich history in nurturing Southern grassroots activism …

Atopic dermatitis (AD) is a multifactorial skin disorder characterized by immune dysregulation, impaired epidermal barrier, and strong microbial imbalance. Although genetic susceptibility and environmental triggers are established AD drivers, growing evidence highlights the gut skin axis as an important but underexplored AD pathogenesis factor. Gut microbiota dysbiosis, loss of short-chain fatty acid (SCFA)-producing bacteria, and altered metabolite profiles, such as tryptophan derivatives and secondary bile acids, have been linked to systemic immune imbalance and skin inflammation. However, the precise mechanism by which gut microbial alterations influence cutaneous immunity remains unclear. This review synthesizes recent advances from clinical and experimental studies …

SARM1 (sterile α and TIR motif-containing protein-1) is an NADase enzyme that serves as the central executioner of Wallerian axon degeneration. Given this, SARM1 is of high interest as a candidate therapeutic target, and SARM1 inhibitors are currently in clinical trials for treatment of neurodegeneration. Beyond neuroscience, emerging studies reveal that SARM1 may also drive aspects of bone fragility, liver pathology, adipose expansion, and insulin resistance in metabolic disease. However, we lack methods to quantify SARM1 activation in humans to better define patients at high risk of SARM1-mediated tissue damage. Unlike neurons, peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs) represent an easily …

A Comparative Performance Analysis Of Task Allocation Methods In Uav-Sdn Networks, Yasameen Ali Al Janabi, Ahmed Mhdi Al-Salih
Journal of Intelligent Informatics, Networking, and Cybersecurity
Task allocation is really important for how unmanned aerial vehicle-software-defined networking networks work and how much energy they use. This is especially true when the network is big or small and when things around it change. We looked at three ways to assign tasks: giving them out randomly giving them out in a manner that maintains load balance, and using something called ``particle swarm optimization'' We tried these methods in two situations: when the unmanned aerial vehicle-software-defined networking network is in open space and when it has to deal with obstacles. We used several unmanned aerial vehicles and tasks: 10 …

Miss Ogilvy Does Not Find Herself: The Repression Of Queer Expression Post World War I, Kennedie Krieger
2026 Symposium
World War l was a historical period of intense societal change, and although it brought upon a lot of devastation, there were also groups of people that experienced liberation because of the war. Radclyffe Hall’s short story “Miss Ogilvy Finds Herself” is an example of the ways in which the war offered relief for queer women who had previously been expected to exist within rigid gender roles. Through an uncommon perspective, readers are able to get a sense of the ways in which gendered societal expectations shifted during the war and the positive outcomes this brought about. Although these hopeful …

This article explores how ordinary people can be pulled into extremist movements and what psychological forces drive that process. It looks at three perspectives: social identity theory, which explains how group belonging shapes behavior, identity development, which shows how people searching for meaning may find it in extremist causes; and social neuroscience, which connects radicalization to brain activity linked to fear, loyalty, and moral judgement. Together, these approaches show that radicalization is not simply about ideology but about identity, emotion, and belonging. By understanding these dynamics, we can find better ways to prevent extremism and promote healthier, more inclusive communities.
