A Theoretical Framework And The Development Of A Multidimensional Scale Of Purpose In Life, Louis Fang, Alfred Allan, Joanne M. Dickson Jun 2026

A Theoretical Framework And The Development Of A Multidimensional Scale Of Purpose In Life, Louis Fang, Alfred Allan, Joanne M. Dickson

Research outputs 2022 to 2026

Purpose in life is a key resource in existential psychology. However, its conceptual variability has hindered its application in mainstream practice. This paper presents a holistic, theoretical framework of purpose in life, the purpose in life system, developed from an integration of existing motivational theories and models. Based on our framework, we constructed the 12-item Multidimensional Measure of Purpose in Life (MMOP) and tested its psychometric properties across two studies. In Study 1 (N = 238), confirmatory factor analysis supported a three-factor higher-order model of purpose in life (present-oriented purpose in life, future-oriented purpose in life, purpose congruence across time), …

From Thin Films To Energy Systems: A Perspective-Oriented Translational Framework For Deployable Functional Materials, Mohammad Nur-E-Alam

Research outputs 2022 to 2026

The translation of high-performance thin-film materials from lab-scale development to field-deployable energy systems remains a significant holdup in sustainable technology development. The real-world impact of functional thin films, nanocomposites, and emerging photovoltaic architectures is often limited by issues with scalability, interfacial reliability, environmental stability, and system-level integration, despite their excellent optical and electronic performance at the device level. A translational framework that is deployment-oriented and systematically connects interface-centric device integration, application-context validation, system-level performance feedback, and process-aware thin-film engineering has been presented in this article. Common structure-property-deployment trade-offs are identified through a comparative analysis of representative case domains, such as …

Geometric Characterization Of Ideals In Bipolar Semigroups, Kittipong Laipaporn, Rasimate Maungchang, David M. Cook, Prathomjit Khachorncharoenkul

Research outputs 2022 to 2026

This paper develops a geometric framework for analyzing the ideal structure of the bipolar semigroup ={(−,)∣,∈ℝ+0} under coordinate-wise addition. Subsets of B are interpreted as planar regions, allowing ideals to be described in terms of boundary behavior. In particular, we prove that the complement of a simply connected region is an ideal of the commutative additive semigroup (,+) if and only if its boundary contains no strictly decreasing segment. This provides a direct and visually verifiable criterion for ideality, linking algebraic structure to geometric shape. Each ideal can be written as a union of translates of the form +, with …

Nanofluid Flooding As A Sufficient Alternative To Waterflooding For Incremental Oil Recovery From Carbonate Reservoirs, Sarmad Al-Anssari, Dhifaf Sadeq, Hassanain A. Hassan, Ahmed Hamid Al-Taie, Hasan Ali Abood, Mohammed Mahdi, Zain Ul Abedin Arain

Research outputs 2022 to 2026

Oil recovery from carbonate reservoirs is one of the critical challenges in the oil industry due to the strongly oil-wet nature, natural fractures, and the heterogeneity of carbonate rocks. Subsequently, waterflooding can only displace oil from large fractures, leaving the majority of oil trapped in the rock matrix. This work suggests that nanofluid flooding, as a predesigned flooding method, is an alternative to conventional waterflooding. Various concentrations of silica nanofluid at different nanoparticle concentrations were formulated and systematically investigated for their characteristics, stability at reservoir conditions, and their influence on wettability and oil recovery. Silica nanoparticles were sustainably synthesized from …

This double-blind randomised controlled trial evaluated the impact, and explored the synergistic potential, of boosting phytochemical rich foods and Lactobacillus probiotics on these physical and biological markers. Two hundred and eight men with untreated early prostate cancer managed with observation only (average age 74 years) received a phytochemical rich supplement (PRS) containing concentrated broccoli, green …

The Corporate Restructuring Machine: Introducing An Open Platform Approach To Workouts, Horst Eidenmüller, Jared Mayer Jun 2026

The Corporate Restructuring Machine: Introducing An Open Platform Approach To Workouts, Horst Eidenmüller, Jared Mayer

Articles

Out-of-court corporate reorganizations, or “corporate workouts,” allow dispersed investors with differing interests to coalesce and strike deals to successfully reorganize distressed companies. Corporate workouts, however, suffer from a host of well-known problems, creating “process fragility.” Current bargaining dynamics limit the instances in which corporate workouts can be used, narrow the kinds of deals that can be made, and invite opportunistic and other socially costly behavior. Yet the Artificial Intelligence (AI) revolution is here; how can it help parties navigate corporate workouts?

In this Article, we argue that AI is well situated to help increase the efficiency of corporate workouts. Based …

Queuing Uncertainty Of Limit Orders, Bart Yueshen Zhou Jun 2026

Queuing Uncertainty Of Limit Orders, Bart Yueshen Zhou

Research Collection Lee Kong Chian School Of Business

Limit orders submitted around the same time are subject to random latencies and will be queued accordingly. In equilibrium, end-of-queue limit orders always lose money—the liquidity supply appears excessive. The model generates empirical predictions regarding such “overshooting” liquidity: (i) new limit orders appear fleeting—clustered submissions are followed by immediate cancellations, (ii) the resulting cancel-to-add count ratio reflects adverse selection, and (iii) the cancel-to-add size ratio measures high-frequency market-making activity. Welfare can be hurt by the overshooting liquidity if it induces excessive speculation. Overall, the model contributes to a more comprehensive understanding and better utilization of order book data.

Tuned Out Or Dialed In: How Attributions Shape Observer Reactions To Music Listeners At Work, Oguz Gencay, Trevor Foulk, Michael Schaerer Jun 2026

Tuned Out Or Dialed In: How Attributions Shape Observer Reactions To Music Listeners At Work, Oguz Gencay, Trevor Foulk, Michael Schaerer

Research Collection Lee Kong Chian School Of Business

Music listening while working is prevalent in contemporary workplaces, with extensive research demonstrating its psychological and behavioral implications. Shifting focus from intra-individual outcomes, the present research examines the social implications of music listening at work. To do so, we adopt a novel third-party perspective to investigate how observers perceive and react to music listeners. Building on attribution theory, we argue that music listening is an ambiguous behavior that invites observers to make leisure or productivity attributions, thereby shaping how they perceive and treat music listeners. We hypothesize that observers perceive music listeners (vs. non-listeners) as less engaged if they attribute …

Not All Sales Bumps Are Created Equal: Examining The Sales Bump Decomposition Of Different Types Of Price Promotions, Yoonju Han, Ernst C. Osinga, Chandukala, Sandeep R., Jaehwan Kim

Research Collection Lee Kong Chian School Of Business

Temporary price reductions (TPRs) and coupons are heavily used by manufacturers to promote their products to consumers. Other types of promotions, such as volume deals and multi-item promotions (MIPs) may provide alternatives. But can we consider these different types of promotions to be exchangeable? In this paper, we argue that not all sales bumps are created equal. We focus on four commonly used price promotions, i.e., TPRs, coupons, volume deals, and MIPs, and rely on product uncertainty-related literature to argue for differences in the sales bump sizes and their relative decompositions. We use data from a large household panel for …

We seek to reconceptualize internationalization strategy by shifting focus from static, single-entry mode choices to dynamic constellations of multiple involvement modes. In an era of rapid technological change enabled by artificial intelligence, blockchain, and robotics, geopolitical volatility fueled by trade wars and violent conflicts, and increasing sustainability demands, multinational corporations (MNCs) need to rethink how they are involved with diverse stakeholder expectations, prioritize flexibility and reversibility, and embed co-creation and legitimacy alongside efficiency. Extending Brouthers et al. (2022), we integrate transaction cost economics with resource-based, institutional, opportunity, and ecosystem perspectives to explain how MNCs configure and reconfigure various constellations of …

Computer perception (CP) technologies are poised to deliver near real-time behavioral insights with high precision. As technical barriers recede, our field's ethical focus must shift from "Can we trust the data?" to "Should we use it here, and how?" We propose a contextual ethics framework that: (1) defines the appropriate scope of CP integration; (2) advocates codesigned roadmaps to manage expectations and epistemic conflict; (3) expands evaluation beyond performance metrics to humanistic outcomes; and (4) anticipates future high performance systems to safeguard dignity, empathy, and shared decision-making in clinical care.

Reusing electrical waste as a sustainable metal source is a promising approach for producing next-generation alloys. In this work, vacuum arc melting (VAM) was used to produce three aluminum-based medium-entropy alloys (AlCuFeCrSi MEAs) from recycled electrical waste. The alloys contained Al in the range 36-46%; Cu in the range 28-35%; Fe in the range 11-18%; Cr in the range 5-6%; and Si in the range 3-6%, with variations in elemental composition resulting from the use of different recovered electrical waste components. Their corrosion performance was evaluated at room temperature, in a 3.5% NaCl solution with and without 1 g/L Mn …
