Gwtc-4.0: Population Properties Of Merging Compact Binaries, Ligo Scientific Collaboration, Virgo Collaboration, Kagra Collaboration, Marc Favata, Shoan Ghosh, Rodica Martin

Department of Physics and Astronomy Faculty Scholarship and Creative Works

We detail the population properties of binary neutron star, neutron star-black hole binary, and binary black hole mergers using 158 events from the cumulative Gravitational-Wave Transient Catalog 4.0. The black hole primary mass distribution consists of a power-law-like continuum that steepens above 35 M-circle dot with overdensities at 10 M-circle dot and 35 M-circle dot. Binary black holes with primary masses near 10 M-circle dot are more likely to have less massive secondaries, with a mass ratio distribution peaking at q = 0.71(-0.11)(+0.12), potentially a signature of stable mass transfer during binary evolution. Black hole spins are inferred to be …

There was no significant between-group differences observed for pMCS change (SCD, -0.8; MeD, -1.3; p = 0.499) or secondary outcomes. Exploratory metagenomic analysis revealed enrichment of Parasutterella excrementihominis …

Risk Factors Of Suicidality Among Physician Assistants, Lynn Marie Page Jul 2026

Risk Factors Of Suicidality Among Physician Assistants, Lynn Marie Page

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

Suicide is a global public health issue that affects all ages, genders, races, and social classes. Although suicide rates are higher among health care providers than in the general public, there is a gap in the literature regarding the suicidal risk factors of physician assistants (PAs), who increasingly provide health care in the United States. The aim of this quantitative cross-sectional study was to explore the association between anxiety, burnout, and depression and the stress-reducing benefits of mindfulness-based interventions (MBIs), as well as the dependent variable suicidality among PAs in the United States. A self-directed questionnaire incorporated psychometrically validated tools …

Effect Of Naoh Concentration On The Structural, Morphological, And Tensile Properties Of Pineapple Stem Fibers, Ahmad Norca Kurnia Zen, Heru Suryanto, Aminnudin Aminnudin, Fajar Nusantara, Joseph Selvi Binoj

Journal of Mechanical Engineering Science and Technology (JMEST)

Natural fiber reinforced composites are increasingly being developed due to their environmentally friendly nature, low production costs, and safety for human health. However, the presence of lignin and hemicellulose reduces adhesion properties between fiber and composite matrix. Alkalization treatment is an effective way to remove lignin and hemicellulose attached to cellulose. This study aims to determine the optimum concentration of NaOH used during alkalization process of pineapple stem fiber. The methods included the retting process of fibers from pineapple stems. The obtained fibers were soaked in variations of 2%, 4%, 6%, and 8% NaOH for 4 hours,  then dried and …

Addressing The ‘Chicken-And-Egg’ Dilemma: Pension Reform, Market Coordination, And Policy Design, Shujaat Khan, Bo Li, Yunhui Zhao Jul 2026

Addressing The ‘Chicken-And-Egg’ Dilemma: Pension Reform, Market Coordination, And Policy Design, Shujaat Khan, Bo Li, Yunhui Zhao

Journal of Banking and Financial Economics

Why do domestic stock markets in many emerging market economies fail to develop, even in the presence of high savings rates? In this paper, we argue that this may be a ‘chicken-and-egg’ problem, which we formalise as a market coordination failure. We first develop a stylised game-theoretical model, showing that when long-term equity investment is subject to network externalities, the Pareto-optimal, high-investment equilibrium is not robust to noise. Individual investors, fearing defection by others, will rationally choose a low-investment (or ‘run’) strategy, trapping the market in a state of underdevelopment. We then show how a specific institutional design – a …

The Specifics Of Green Mortgages: A Case Study Of Poland, Mateusz Tomal, Ewa Gorlecka-Łabiak Jul 2026

The Specifics Of Green Mortgages: A Case Study Of Poland, Mateusz Tomal, Ewa Gorlecka-Łabiak

Journal of Banking and Financial Economics

The green mortgage market in Poland has received limited research attention. Therefore, this article aims to present the specifics of the green mortgage market in Poland. To thoroughly investigate the issue, in-depth interviews were conducted with 12 banking sector representatives, each with varying experience and professional roles. The study’s findings revealed that there is no formal definition of green mortgages, which hinders both banks and their customers. Currently, green mortgages are rarely granted due to their limited economic benefit to borrowers and the small number of residential properties that qualify. For banks, green mortgages present an opportunity to expand their …

U.S. Health Care Leaders’ Strategies To Improve Operational Efficiency Through Artificial Intelligence In Hospital Settings, Antwonne Demarco Ward

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

Health care leaders in the United States increasingly adopt artificial intelligence (AI) to improve operational efficiency, yet many organizations struggle to achieve sustained operational value from AI initiatives. This problem is important to health care leaders, patients, clinicians, staff, and communities because AI-supported decisions may affect workflow, access, safety, staffing, and trust. The purpose of this qualitative pragmatic inquiry project was to explore strategies U.S. health care leaders used to improve operational efficiency through AI in hospital settings. Eight U.S. health care leaders in hospital settings across the United States participated. The technology-organization-environment framework grounded the project. Data were collected …

Gambling Under The Influence Of Cannabis: The Impact Of Simultaneous Engagement Within Individuals Who Gamble Frequently, Abby Mcphail Jul 2026

Gambling Under The Influence Of Cannabis: The Impact Of Simultaneous Engagement Within Individuals Who Gamble Frequently, Abby Mcphail

Electronic Theses and Dissertations Archive

Recent studies have reliably reported that cannabis use while gambling has been associated with increased gambling frequency, risking more money, and higher rates of positive screenings for gambling disorder. In the current study, we take the next step with a longitudinal approach, utilizing an ecological momentary assessment (EMA) method to track gambling behavior within individuals when they are and are not under the influence of cannabis. We hypothesized that individuals would engage in more potentially problematic gambling behavior (e.g. risking larger sums, gambling for longer periods, placing more bets) when they are under the influence of cannabis, compared to gambling …

Identification Of Map3k4-Dependent Signaling Pathways Controlling Placental Trophoblast Differentiation, Nathan Alexander Mullins Jul 2026

Identification Of Map3k4-Dependent Signaling Pathways Controlling Placental Trophoblast Differentiation, Nathan Alexander Mullins

Electronic Theses and Dissertations Archive

During development, stem cells rapidly proliferate and differentiate to form the embryo and the placenta, requiring intensive increases in cellular protein synthesis and changes to the cell architecture. Chaperone proteins, including the small heat shock proteins (HSPs), are critical assistants to protein folding, preventing protein aggregation, and promoting autophagy. Mitogen-activated protein kinase kinase kinase 4 (MAP3K4) is a stress-activated kinase that promotes fetal and placental growth. MAP3K4 activates p38 and JNK in trophoblast stem (TS) cells by phosphorylating MAP2K3 and MAP2K4/7, respectively. In addition, MAP3K4 promotes activation of the PI3K/Akt signaling pathway in part through controlling expression of PDK1 in …

Rotating nonaxisymmetric neutron stars (NSs) are promising sources for continuous gravitational waves (CWs). CWs may, if detected, inform us about the internal structure and equation of state of NSs. Here, we present a narrowband search for CWs from known pulsars, for which a matched-filter search can be applied. Narrowband searches are robust to mismatches between electromagnetic (EM) and gravitational emissions, in contrast to fully targeted searches where they are assumed to be phase-locked. In this work, we search for the CW counterparts emitted by 34 pulsars using data from the first and second parts of the fourth LIGO–Virgo–KAGRA observing run. …

Hardware-Driven Race-To-Halt (Rth) In Conjunction With Dynamic Voltage And Frequency Scaling (Dvfs) For Memory Path Power Management, Anthony Douglas Masterson Jul 2026

Hardware-Driven Race-To-Halt (Rth) In Conjunction With Dynamic Voltage And Frequency Scaling (Dvfs) For Memory Path Power Management, Anthony Douglas Masterson

Defensive Publications Series

This publication describes systems and techniques to manage power for dynamic memory interfaces within system-on-chip architectures.  In some implementations, memory paths utilize discrete operating frequencies.  The described systems introduce a hardware-driven synchronization and dynamic voltage and frequency scaling (DVFS) mechanism that adjusts the active time of a memory interface based on real-time utilization.  By operating the memory interface and associated requestor blocks at an elevated speed for a compressed burst period, and subsequently power-gating these components, a variable offline period is created.  This synchronization effectively yields a continuous spectrum of bandwidth scaling levels.  The hardware-driven approach coordinates active and inactive …

Central Asia's Kaleidoscope Of Identities: Sport As The Perfect Instrument For Nation-Building, Khais Rahmanie Jul 2026

Central Asia's Kaleidoscope Of Identities: Sport As The Perfect Instrument For Nation-Building, Khais Rahmanie

Journal of Global South Sport Studies

The five Central Asian countries emerged from Soviet collapse with arbitrarily drawn borders, weak national identities, and deeply complex ethnic and religious landscapes. Predominantly Muslim but heir to seventy years of Soviet secularization, each state contains substantial minority populations. Confronted with these internal fractures, the governments of these countries have since their independence in the 1990s turned to sport as a primary instrument for forging social cohesion, managing interethnic tensions, and legitimizing their authority. This article examines the ethnic lines, explains why certain sports and events are specifically organized in particular regions, and traces sport's evolution from a Soviet tool …

Understanding The Effects Of Simulated Microgravity On Staphylococcus Epidermidis And Escherichia Coli In Co-Culture, Emma Costa, Mitchell K. Villafania, Makaila Olson, Kareigh N. Gammon, Hugo Castillo

Beyond: Undergraduate Research Journal

With the popularity of space travel increasing, it is important to understand the effects of microgravity on microbial communities as alterations on bacterial interactions can occur. Staphylococcus epidermidis and Escherichia coli are bacteria that are commonly found within human microbiomes. S. epidermidis is a cocci-shaped gram-positive bacterium that is part of the human skin microbiome. However, it can gather on sites of open skin and enter the body leading to an infection. E. coli is a rod-shaped gram-negative bacterium that can be found in the human gut microbiome. The pathogenic strains of E. coli have the potential to cause harmful …

Emophilia: An Integrated Guide For Mental Health Professionals, Joseph H. Preckajlo, Erica Baer, Richard P. Conti Jul 2026

Emophilia: An Integrated Guide For Mental Health Professionals, Joseph H. Preckajlo, Erica Baer, Richard P. Conti

Forensic Scholars Today

Emophilia, the tendency to fall in love quickly and frequently, has emerged as a distinct, nonpathological relationship trait with implications for early-stage romance, sexual health, and relationship stability. This integrated guide synthesizes conceptual, psychometric, motivational, personality, and clinical findings to support assessment and intervention. Emophilia appears to be an approach-oriented, reward-sensitive construct (vs. anxiety-driven attachment needs), shows satisfactory measurement properties, modest associations with personality, and consistent links to rapid bonding, relational churn, and attraction to antisocial traits. We offer practical assessment strategies, pacing and screening interventions, and ethical/cultural considerations, while highlighting research gaps (e.g., longitudinal tests, neurohormonal mechanisms, and mediation …
