Breaking Barriers: Investigating Gender Dynamics In Introductory Physics Lab Classes, Bilas Paul, Shantanu Chakraborty, Ganga Sharma
Georgia Journal of Science
The persistent underrepresentation of women and other gender minorities in physical science fields has been an ongoing concern. This study investigates gender dynamics in introductory physics laboratory courses, focusing on whether students of different gender identities exhibit equal inclination and confidence in conducting lab experiments, and whether they face barriers that impact their participation. Conducted across three institutions and involving non-physics STEM students enrolled in algebra-based and calculus-based physics courses, the study found mixed results, with two institutions showing no significant gender-based differences in participation levels during lab activities, while one institution demonstrated significant differences. Chi-square tests revealed no significant …

Forecasting The Volatility Of Energy Transition Metals, Andrea Bastianin, Xiao Li, Ahmad Luqman Shamsudin
Forecasting The Volatility Of Energy Transition Metals, Andrea Bastianin, Xiao Li, Ahmad Luqman Shamsudin
Fondazione Eni Enrico Mattei Working Papers
The transition to a cleaner energy mix, essential for achieving net-zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050, will significantly increase demand for metals critical to renewable energy technologies. Energy Transition Metals (ETMs), including copper, lithium, nickel, cobalt, and rare earth elements, are indispensable for renewable energy generation and the electrification of global economies. However, their markets are characterized by high price volatility due to supply concentration, low substitutability, and limited price elasticity. This paper provides a comprehensive analysis of the price volatility of ETMs, a subset of Critical Raw Materials (CRMs). Using a combination of exploratory data analysis, data reduction, and …

Pesticide Runoff From Conventional, Minimum, And No-Tillage Cropping Systems: Meta-Analysis Of Published North American Data, Daniel Fleming, Dave Spencer, Chicot Irrigation
Pesticide Runoff From Conventional, Minimum, And No-Tillage Cropping Systems: Meta-Analysis Of Published North American Data, Daniel Fleming, Dave Spencer, Chicot Irrigation
WRRI Publications
Pesticide applications may soon be regulated by laws predicated on the presupposition that reducing tillage, and thereby increasing soil surface crop residue cover, decreases sorbed and soluble agrochemical losses in surface runoff and erosion. This analysis was conducted to determine whether pesticide transport via surface runoff and erosion could be manipulated by tillage practices. Estimates of the amounts of crop residue cover within each tillage practice were averaged from data reported in the original articles. Response ratios of the paired means of runoff, erosion, and pesticide losses and concentrations from the effects of tillage practices were meta-analyzed as paired t-tests …

Entertainers Vs Ai: A Comparative Analysis Of The Unionized And Non-Unionized Entertainers' Approaches To Ai, Nicole Askar
Loyola of Los Angeles Entertainment Law Review
While the implementation of artificial intelligence (“AI”) could revolutionize the efficiency of the workforce, workers remain hesitant to embrace AI as it could minimize their role in the economy. During the summer of 2023, the Writers Guild of America (“WGA”) and the Screen Actors Guild (“SAG-AFTRA”) striked against the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers (“AMPTP”), citing disagreements about AI policies as a primary concern. Both the WGA and SAG-AFTRA enacted policies that emphasize the need for consent. The Recording Academy and streaming services diligently monitored the influx of AI into the music industry. While unionized groups took hardline …

Geochronological And Isotopic Data From The Adakitic Dodurga Pluton (Central Pontides, N Türkiye): New Insights For The Geodynamic Evolution Of The Northern Neotethys, Okay Çi̇men, Mehmet Ali̇ Gücer, Antonio Simonetti, Fati̇h Karaoğlan
Turkish Journal of Earth Sciences
The Dodurga Pluton is located within the Central Pontides (northern Türkiye) and, has a SW-NE elongation, and consists of granodiorite and dacite porphyry. Previous studies have suggested that this pluton is Triassic in age, and its whole-rock geochemical systematics are consistent with those from adakitic magmatic occurrences rather than the classic arc granitoid suite. This study reports the first time in-situ/whole-rock radiogenic isotopic (Sr, Nd and Pb) and mica/amphibole Ar-Ar age data to evaluate better its petrogenetic-geodynamic evolution and chemical nature of mantle source(s). Unlike previous data, combined new in-situ zircon U-Pb yield Late Cretaceous crystallization ages of 84.2±0.9 Ma …
