Is Islam A Religion Of Peace?, Robert Greer
Is Islam A Religion Of Peace?, Robert Greer
Liberty Theological Review
One of the most troubling and controversial doctrines in Islam is that of jihad. Yet, in the West its meaning is unclear. Does it mean the struggle of the human soul to develop a wholesome spirituality, or is it more a struggle that results in terrorist attacks upon all who oppose Islam? Many politicians and academics in the West, along with many journalists and opinion-makers in the mainstream media insist that Islam, rightly understood, is a religion of peace. That means that Islamic jihadists who engage in wanton terrorism upon all who stand in their way are an aberration. They …

The Recitation Of Imam Al-Kisa'i And Its Impact On Family Related Jurisprudential Rulings, Hamza Hammad
An-Najah University Journal for Research - B (Humanities)
This study aimed to introduce the Quranic recitations and Imam Al-Kisa’i, and shows the effect of the recitation of Imam Al-Kisa’i on family-related rulings. The study followed the inductive approach, which consists in extrapolating the verses related to the family rulings, then explaining the recitation of Imam Al-Kisa’i, then applying the comparative approach by contrasting the recitation of Al-Kisa’i with other reciters, then the analytical approach by analyzing the reasons for the different recitations and their impact on the jurisprudential rulings related to the family. The study concluded that there are applied jurisprudential models impacted by the recitation of Al-Kisa’i …
Catholic-Muslim Mariology Ii Maryam’S Immaculate Conception, Renato Taib طيب Oliveros
Catholic-Muslim Mariology Ii Maryam’S Immaculate Conception, Renato Taib طيب Oliveros
Landas
This article explores the theological convergence between Catholic and Muslim beliefs regarding Mary, focusing on the doctrine of the Immaculate Conception. It examines how early Christian prayers and Islamic scriptures highlight Mary’s purity and her role as a bridge in interfaith dialogues. The study underscores the significance of the Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception in the Catholic tradition and its potential to enhance Muslim-Catholic relations in Southeast Asia. By analyzing theological texts, the article reveals shared spiritual themes and the mutual reverence for Maryam (Mary) in both religions, promoting deeper interreligious understanding and respect.
Anti-Normalization, Nonviolent Activism, And Domestic Interests: The Case Of Morocco, Maia Hallward, Taib Biygautane
Anti-Normalization, Nonviolent Activism, And Domestic Interests: The Case Of Morocco, Maia Hallward, Taib Biygautane
Journal of African Conflicts and Peace Studies
Between August and December 2020, the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Bahrain, Sudan, and Morocco announced US-brokered agreements with Israel whereby they established full diplomatic relations and effectively withdrew from the Arab Boycott of Israel that tied official relations to the resolution of the so-called Palestine Question. These announcements came as a surprise to Arab-Muslim publics, despite their awareness of informal relations between these states and Israel. Using the case of Morocco and drawing on nonviolent resistance literature, this paper investigates civil resistance to the December 2020 Moroccan-Israeli agreement by three Moroccan activist groupings–opposition leftists, Islamists, and boycott-focused groups. Through document …

Feeding Hungry Christians: The Liverpool Muslim Institute On Christmas Day, Brent D. Singleton
Feeding Hungry Christians: The Liverpool Muslim Institute On Christmas Day, Brent D. Singleton
Library Faculty Publications & Presentations
The Liverpool Muslim Institute (LMI), a group of mainly British Muslim converts led by Abdullah Quilliam, began an annual tradition of feeding the poor and hungry on Christmas Day soon after the groups’ founding in the late 1880s. The feasts would become the largest and perhaps most important public event on the LMI’s calendar until its demise in 1908. This chapter provides a brief outline of the history of Christmas charity in England and Liverpool and then delves into the Muslims’ rationale for the feedings, their fundraising and preparations, and actual Christmas Day feasts, as recorded in the LMI’s weekly …

Christ Is Risen! Truly, He Is Risen!, Daniel C. Peterson
Interpreter: A Journal of Latter-day Saint Faith and Scholarship
There is no more important message than that of the Atonement and Resurrection of Jesus Christ. It’s life-transforming and world-transforming. It is also the most joyous news imaginable. What Jesus did on our behalf leaves us forever in his debt and should put him at the center of our lives.

It Helps To Have A Village, Daniel C. Peterson
Interpreter: A Journal of Latter-day Saint Faith and Scholarship
In preparing the next generation, it really is helpful when parents don’t stand alone and they have the help of others outside the family. This is one of the reasons why the seemingly growing gulf between gospel values and the values of the societies around us is such a cause for concern: “The truths and values we embrace are mocked on ev’ry hand.”1 All of us have benefited from innumerable influences—from teachers in and out of the Church, from writers, from youth leaders, from coaches, from role models of all kinds. We may even have forgotten many of those influences, …

Weaving Rituals For Resistance: Queering The Tallit, Sam Simons
Weaving Rituals For Resistance: Queering The Tallit, Sam Simons
Textile Society of America: Symposium Proceedings
“Weaving Rituals for Resistance” explores the history and significance of the tallit, a Jewish prayer shawl, as an immersive and transformative experience. Since 2022, I have been researching the historical development, making practices, and use of tallit, and its intersections with gender, sexuality, and power. Traditionally, tallit are worn by men; that is changing. There is no one way to feel about wearing tallit, but many share that they feel safe, protected and held. I worked with my rabbi to develop educational programming – a five-session course in Fall 2023. We covered history, textual sources for design and use, biblical …

This chapter overviews emergent communities of illustrations, comics, and graphic narratives from the United Arab Emirates. The data collected is from ethnographic online and on-site observations and direct interactions with Emirati artists and publishers. It briefly discusses how comics and graphic narratives have evolved in the last 20 years, and it elucidates how these art forms avail social media to gain prominence and recognition. It then introduces a group of 21 Emirati artists, all different in style and concept, who have been chosen to represent a new illustrative trend: Khaleeji comics and illustrations. Their first group exhibition is with the …

The Image Of Imam Al-Jawad, Peace Be Upon Him, According To The American Orientalist Dwight Donaldson, Hawraa Abdul Nasser Al-Ramahi
NJF Islamic University Journal
One of the most well-known Western figures of the 1930s was the orientalist Dwight Donaldson (1884–1976), who travelled to Ahl al-Bayt to visit the Shiites and their imams' shrines in an attempt to paint a clear picture of their history. Nevertheless, it is an early virtue noted for the Westerner who attempted to write as much as possible about the exploratory excursions to Iraq from trustworthy sources like Al-Majlisi, Al-Kafi, and others.
The study explores Imam Al-Jawad's biography and his relationship with Al-Abbasin, focusing on the Abbasid caliphate, Al-Mamoun's relationship, and Donaldson's biography. It explores the historical context of Baghdad …

Imam Muhammad Al-Baqir (Peace By Upon Him) As Recognized By Western Scholars: An Analytical Study, Kareem Jihad Al-Hassani
NJF Islamic University Journal
The majority of the notable individuals from the early Islamic era who had a major impact on the development of Muslim history have been the subject of in-depth research and analysis by Western academics. Scholars, Orientalists, and others are aware of the significant effects these studies have had on the Islamic country over the centuries, both positive and negative. These researchers made advantage of the resources at their disposal to collect data, making sure that their conclusions were not restricted to societies, libraries, and museums. Rather, they translated, published, and categorised their work based on its development and place of …

The German Interpretation Of Imam Reza's, Peace Be Upon Him, Mandate Of The Covenant: "Conselman As A Model'', Haider Ali Hawal
NJF Islamic University Journal
The German school in Islamic history has been criticized for presenting a distorted view of Islam and the Prophet Muhammad, particularly the Imams of Ahl al-Bayt. Gerhard Konselman's study, "The Shining Star of Shiites," examined the Safavid dynasty and the Islamic state in Iran, focusing on the Imams of Ahl al-Bayt. The research, "The German Reading of the Mandate of the Covenant of Imam Reza, Peace Be Upon Him: Konselman as a Model," aims to challenge this distorted view and provide a more credible understanding of the Imams.
Is There A Future For The Missiological Study Of Worldview? Part 1, Paulo C. Oliveira
Is There A Future For The Missiological Study Of Worldview? Part 1, Paulo C. Oliveira
Journal of Adventist Mission Studies
This two-part article aims to assess the missiological worldview theory critically while pointing to implications for mission studies. It argues that the concept needs serious development to be useful for research in contemporary society. The social shifts experienced in the last decades and a lack of robust missiological critical engagement have made the model theoretically unreliable as an analytical tool. This first paper introduces the genealogy of missiological worldview theory to expose its theoretical underpinnings and identifies a departure between anthropology and missiology regarding the concept. The first task in the ensuing discussion is to unearth the theoretical foundations of …

The Indonesian Capital Market Review
Income inequality is a persistent phenomenon and fundamental issue of concern, especially in this new digital era, because unequal access to finance has long been recognized as a critical mechanism for generating persistent income inequality. ICT tools and approaches are being used widely today due to their convenience, omnipresence and economy. This study examines the influence of financial development, ICT, and English proficiency on income inequality in Malaysia during the period of 1979-2019. The empirical results based on the ARDL bounds test indicated that financial develop- ment and English proficiency support the hypothesis that both factors can reduce the income …

Sacred Screens: Hinduism, Buddhism, Shintoism And Islam In Popular Culture, Arianna A. Poveda
Theses and Dissertations
Popular media content creators have routinely drawn from religious concepts when seeking inspiration for new material. Developers in the West have traditionally relied heavily on Christian themes to supply new ideas. Now, more artists have begun to look towards Hinduism, Buddhism, Islam, and Shinto religions for inspiration when conceiving many of the storylines we find in mainstream entertainment today. This thesis will study key examples of film, video game, literary, and television media to show how these artists weave their religiously inspired themes into their respective platforms. In using the rich stories and traditions to develop more in-depth landscapes and …

The New Antisemitism, Edgar G. Soto
The New Antisemitism, Edgar G. Soto
Honors Undergraduate Theses
Following the Second World War, antisemitism appeared to be on a decline. Presently, however, there is an uptick in antisemitic hate crimes, worldwide. Modern-day Islamic antisemitism in particular is in large part recycled European Christian antisemitism adapted for Islamic audiences and intensified by the ongoing Arab-Israeli conflict. This iteration of anti-Jewish bigotry is not the same as the “old,” but neither is it different. As will be explained, antisemitism has, throughout history, amounted to an anomaly in Islamic culture and in what may be called “normative” Islam.
Indeed, Muslims and Jews lived together amicably for centuries. In fact, within dar-al-Islam, …

Purpose — This study aims to discuss several examples of temporary Islamic endowments (waqfs) in the modern period, arguing that jurists and Muslim endowment managers should utilise them more widely to adjust to current societal circumstances and open the door for new ways of caring for those in need. Design/Methodology/Approach — It employed textual analysis of legal opinions related to temporary waqfs, outlining the positions of scholars on both sides of the issue, including a presentation and analysis of their evidence. Findings — The research findings show that temporary waqfs are an essential means of renewable and sustainable economic support, …

Witnessing To Eisa Al-Masih In The Muslim World, Richard Niyukuri Sx
Asia Pacific Mission Studies
According to the statistics of the world population, Christian and Muslim communities make up the highest percentage of religious followers. Approximately 2.38 billion people practice Christianity globally. This means that about one-third of the world's total population is Christian. On the other side, Muslims comprise more than 2 billion people worldwide; making Islam the second-largest religion in the world, exceeded only by Christianity. By learning about these figures, one may be interested in knowing more about these two Abrahamic and revealed religions. The truth is that Islam was established in the 7th AD. The existing Christian community found it important …

Is There A Future For The Missiological Study Of Worldview? Part 2, Paulo C. Oliveira
Journal of Adventist Mission Studies
In Part 1 of this article, I revisited the foundational intellectual roots of the missiological worldview construct, described the concept, and presented an argument advocating for additional critical engagement in mission circles. In Part 2, the focus will be on probing the anthropological shift moving away from worldview studies, exploring some implications of this shift for missiology, and, finally, addressing—more directly—the question of the future of missiological worldview studies.
