Law As Strategy: Thinking Below The State In Afghanistan, Charles H. Norchi Nov 2019

Law As Strategy: Thinking Below The State In Afghanistan, Charles H. Norchi

International Law Studies

In Doha, Qatar the government of the United States has conducted successive rounds of negotiations with a non-State, the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan (the Taliban) over the future of a State that was not present—the Government of Afghanistan. Regardless of the outcome, the United States will retain a national security interest in Afghanistan and the region. Contextually nuanced strategic choices will be critical and law could be a key strategy. This article identifies relevant Afghan history—a collective longue durée—appraises the severable sovereignty of the Afghan State, and underscores the imperative of working below the State. Drawing on a 1952 …

The Development Of Khanaphism In Mavarannakhr, Raziya Matibayeva Nov 2019

The Development Of Khanaphism In Mavarannakhr, Raziya Matibayeva

The Light of Islam

Currently, an urgent task for Islamic studies scholars is the study of Islam, in particular, a deep study of the Hanafi madhab, which includes national traditions and values, informing our people with the principles of tolerance and strengthening the ideological consciousness of our youth. Indeed, hanafism is a widespread madhab, which is followed by most of the peoples of Central Asia. Among the four Sunni madhabs: hanafis, malikis, shafiis and hanbalis, the largest number of believers are hanafis. The principles of tolerance inherent in the Hanafi religion were the reason for spreading it throughout the Islamic world, and the study …

Private Universities Of Bangladesh:A Study On Service Quality,Customers’ Perceptions And Satisfaction, Abdul Kader, A. Salam

International Review of Business and Economics

The higher education sector of Bangladesh is divided as private and public sectors in terms of the initiative of establishment. All of them are autonomous where the public universities are owned by the government and the private universities have been developed by the private sector. As the private universities produce services and sell it to the students by a comprehensive marketing effort, we can treat their services as a part of marketing. In this study, we tried to show the quality of services and the subsequent perception and satisfaction level of the stake holders regarding services are being provided by …

Pemikiran Maqasid Al-Shari’Ah Yusuf Al-Qaradawi Dan Muhammad Sa’Id Ramadan Al-Buti: Satu Kajian Perbandingan / Muhammad Safwan Harun, Harun Muhammad Safwan Nov 2019

Pemikiran Maqasid Al-Shari’Ah Yusuf Al-Qaradawi Dan Muhammad Sa’Id Ramadan Al-Buti: Satu Kajian Perbandingan / Muhammad Safwan Harun, Harun Muhammad Safwan

Student Works (2010-2019)

Ganti Rugi Bagi Kes Kemalangan Jalan Raya: Ke Arah Mengharmonisasikan Prinsip Diyat Ke Dalam Undang-Undang Di Malaysia / Siti Aisyah Samudin, Samudin Siti Aisyah

Student Works (2010-2019)

Seeing King Solomon Through The Verses Of Hafez: A Critical Study Of Two Safavid Manuscript Paintings, Richard W. Ellis Nov 2019

Seeing King Solomon Through The Verses Of Hafez: A Critical Study Of Two Safavid Manuscript Paintings, Richard W. Ellis

USF Tampa Graduate Theses and Dissertations

This thesis is focused on a previously unpublished collage comprised of two manuscript fragments from Safavid Iran. One fragment contains a painting that depicts an enthronement scene featuring King Solomon, which, as I argue, was taken from a copy of the Majalis al-Ushshaq by Kamal al-Din Gazurgahi. The other fragment contains verses from the Divan of Hafez. The fragment from the Divan has been gutted and overlaps the painting of Solomon, effectively framing the image. Through visual and textual analysis, I argue that both fragments come from manuscripts that were produced in Shiraz. I further argue that the painting of …

Bahrainisation: Factors Discouraging Employers From Recruiting Nationals In The Private Sector, Mariam Abdulla Yousif Ali Janahi

Dissertations

The growing level of unemployment among the nationals of the Arabian Gulf countries has become one of the chronic problems in the region. Like the rest of the GCC states, Bahrain has embraced nationalization policy to solve this issue and

provide citizens with productive employment in the private sector. However, it is generally understood that Bahrainis are not considered a favourable choice for employers in this sector (Bahrain Government, 2018). In addition, most of the private entities operating in Bahrain are not committed to Bahrainisation requirements. Therefore, this study aims at providing empirical evidence of the factors that discourage employers …

Dialogue Between Islam And Environtmental Ethics Through The Seyyed Hossein Nasr Thought, Aulia Rahman Nugraha, Naupal Asnawi Oct 2019

Dialogue Between Islam And Environtmental Ethics Through The Seyyed Hossein Nasr Thought, Aulia Rahman Nugraha, Naupal Asnawi

International Review of Humanities Studies

Islam is often regarded as a religion that teaches anthropocentrism through the concept of the caliph in which humans occupy a central position on earth. However, the concept of the caliph itself is a complex concept where the special status of humans always implies a moral obligation. Through alternative explanatory methods and critical reflection, the authors try to clarify the concept of the caliph and show the teachings of Islam that are environmentally friendly through the thought of Seyyed Hossein Nasr. Philosophy and environmental ethics of Nasr have two major projects, namely the resacralization of nature and the clarification of …

Yemen And The Houthi Rebellion In The Context Of The Global War On Terror, Tomi Pulkkinen Oct 2019

Yemen And The Houthi Rebellion In The Context Of The Global War On Terror, Tomi Pulkkinen

History in the Making

The group Ansar Allah, commonly known as the Houthis, took over the Yemeni capital Sana’a in the Fall of 2014, and have been engaged in a conflict with the exiled government President Abdu Rabbu Mansour Hadi and a Saudi-led coalition of mostly Arab countries since March 2015. The Houthis originate from the north-western region of Saada, and represent a faction of Yemen's Zaydi minority, but neither the group nor the conflict in Yemen are primarily sectarian. The situation in Yemen is complicated by various regional, political, and tribal factions that form alliances of convenience for political purposes. The situation is …

The Right To Religious Freedom And Its Political Significance: Catholic And Islamic Approaches, Matthew Bagot Oct 2019

The Right To Religious Freedom And Its Political Significance: Catholic And Islamic Approaches, Matthew Bagot

Biennial Conference: The Social Practice of Human Rights

It is generally agreed that the Catholic Church formally committed itself to modern human rights in 1963 as a result of Pope John XXIII’s encyclical, Pacem in Terris. But it was the more specific historical development regarding the right to religious freedom that took place two years later at the Second Vatican Council, which really prompted global change. As Samuel Huntington wrote, the Church’s commitment to religious liberty on the part of all persons (and to the liberty of non-religious persons) had an extraordinary impact on democracy movements around the world. Indeed, Huntington referred to these movements as a “Catholic …

The Practice Of Dhikr Among Senegalese Taalibe Baay Women: Individual Devotion, Communal Well-Being, Natalie Marsh Oct 2019

The Practice Of Dhikr Among Senegalese Taalibe Baay Women: Individual Devotion, Communal Well-Being, Natalie Marsh

Independent Study Project (ISP) Collection

For Sufis, dhikr—the practice of invoking the Name of God—pervades the fabric of everyday life. For Taalibe Baay (disciples of Ibrahim Niasse) living in Senegal, dhikr takes on particular significance in relation to the experience of tarbiya, an intense spiritual initiation aimed at achieving a vision of God. If tarbiya is the door to the spiritual path, some Taalibe Baay say, then dhikr is a tool by which disciples can continue to progress along this path, purifying themselves internally and reaffirming their connection to God each time they perform these prayers. But for some Senegalese Taalibe Baay women, dhikr seems …
