تغيير الخلق" عِلّةً لتحريم التعديلات على الجينوم - دراسة نقدية- Change Of Human Shape As A Reason For Prohibiting Genome Modification - A Critical Study, Ayman Saleh
Jordan Journal of Islamic Studies
Many scholars of Islamic jurisprudence argue that all changes to the human form, particularly elective cosmetic surgeries, are banned because they amount to “altering God's creation.” This argument has been generalized to deem genetic modification in humans forbidden. Using the framework of Islamic jurisprudence,5 the present paper aims to refute this argument and its underlying evidence. The paper argues that genetic modifications to reproductive and non-reproductive cells are permissible in Islam, but only within the general restrictions of Islamic jurisprudence. The most significant of these restrictions is that the harm incurred by such modifications should not outweigh their benefits.

Drawing on eighteen months of ethnographic research with Muslim performers and enthusiasts of Sindhi poetry between 2014-2018, I first examine an ecology of performative and interpretive practices revolving around the musico-poetic repertoire of the poet-saint Shāh ʿAbdul Lat̤īf Bhiṭā’ī (1689-1752 CE). I argue that the pedagogical efficacy of Sufi poetry performance is undergirded by its …

Mandative Subjunctive In Arabic Syntax: A Minimalist Study, Atef Jalabneh
Al-Balqa Journal for Research and Studies البلقاء للبحوث والدراسات
An Arabic sentence is dealt with in this article as SVO at spell-out and VSO at the logical form (LF). Decadent Orientalisms: The Decay Of Colonial Modernity [Table Of Contents], David Fieni
Literature
Decadent Orientalisms presents a sustained critique of the ways Orientalism and decadence have formed a joint discursive mode of the imperial imagination. Attentive to historical and literary configurations of language, race, religion, and power, Fieni shows the importance of understanding Western discourses of Eastern decline and obsolescence together with Arab and Islamic responses in which the language of decadence returns as a characteristic of the West.
Taking seriously Edward Said’s claim that Orientalism is a “style of having power,” Fieni works historically through the aesthetic and ideological effects of Orientalist style, showing how it is at once comparative, descriptive, and …
